38DDD and wondering how I'm going to find a dress :(

Tamara, on November 27, 2011 at 1:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 52

So I am going to be looking for a dress soon and I'm fearing that I'm going to find the perfect dress but it won't fit me in the bust. I have a 32 inch waist and a 44 inch thighs...Im not sure what body type i am all I know is that I gain all my weight in my thighs and hips. Can you guys give me some tips on what dress types would be good for me. My stomach is pretty flat for the most part. Being a 38DDD would I be able to fit into a strapless? If not what type of dress would you suggest?

I would go for straps of some sort with your chest size, I'm a 38D and would never go with a strapless anything, but I think if you have bigger hips/thighs you would look good in anything but a sheath type dress, I would go for something that hugs your waist then goes out in your thighs maybe?

NotFroofy is also quite well endowed, and ended up with this dress. It had straps, and also had an elasticized midsection that showed off her slim waist.

Im a 36dd and I went strapless which is totally against what I thought would work. I also have a thinner waist so Davids ordered the dress that best fit my waist and added V shaped panels in the sides to make the corset and my dress fit and look right. If you go strapless, go with a corset back because you can strap those puppies in!

Haha thanks guys it's nice to see visuals.. It's funny I am Ms. Clark and well be Mrs. Hurd Smiley laugh I will definitely add corset back to my list of things to ask for when I go to David's cause that's where I was planning to go. Do you have a picture of you with your dress??

I'm just slightly smaller and I love strapless dresses. It's all about getting the right fit. Also, all three dresses I tried on (got lucky and found mine quickly) were strapless and had some pretty good boning in them. That will help both with support and fit.

Actually, showing up to your appointment empty handed is fine. A good bridal consultant can pick out dresses that would look good on you, that you might not even consider.

Well that makes me a little bit more confident about going to try on dresses. When you show up to your appointment do you need to be wearing heels or does that not matter till I find a dress and am getting fitted?

Well, it can be helpful to wear shoes about the same height as you expect to wear with the dress. But it's not really critical. At your height, dresses are more likely to be too long than too short. And if you need alterations anyway, there isn't a big difference between having to hem something two inches versus three, for example. The only thing to think about is if you have a dress in which much of the detail is near the bottom, some of it may get lost if you have to take the dress up a lot.

The suggestion I've always heard is wear shoes close to what you want for the wedding, as a heel or lack there of can make a difference. If you're unsure of if you want heels or not, take both. Wearing your hair close to how you want it is also recommended. If you don't know, take a pony tail holder or clip of some sort so you can at least get an idea of hair up or down with each dress.

I'll second what 2nd Bride said, going empty handed is fine. And hey, if you find a strapless you love, don't let the consultant talk you out of it just because of size. They should be able to work with you to make sure you get a dress you love!

Yah my FH is only 2 inches taller than me so I really don't want to wear a heel cause I dont want to be taller than him in pictures. Plus Ive broken my ankles in the past and heels are too uncomfortable for me. I have very long hair past the middle of my back so I will def bring a pony tail holder with me to wear it either up or down!

Hello - I'm short 5'2 but curvey 36DD, small waist and some junk in my trunk LOL. I'm going strapless but with a corset. It looks great. Just be prepared though some of those corsets can really push your girls up and have your chin sitting on 'em or squish them right out the sides into you armpit area. LOL

Check out this website - it kinda gives you an idea of where to start with dresses.

I have long hair also - I don't bring a ponytail holder with me though - I bring a hair clip so I can get a more dramatic effect. I also bring some drop earings - not the ones for the wedding but just something dressy to get an idea. I don't bring a bra but I do wear my spankz and I bring a pair of heels; same size as I'll wear that day. After that I just let the bridal salon work their magic.

Don't worry too much. The alterations department exists because none of us(well 99%) of us are not proffessional model shaped. The dress will be ordered in the most suitable size for you, and than any places that need a bit of work can be altered. If a dress does not fit perfectly off the rack it's not a big deal Smiley winking

I'm right there with you, I'm a 38DD and before I went shopping I had found a strapless dress online that I loved!!!! Didn't have my heart set on it because I wasn't sure how the "girls" would fit. I ended up getting the dress I saw online Smiley smile It doesn't feel like I'm going to pop out. A strapless can work!!

I'm a 42 DDD and I have a strapless. The first one is my dress and the others are other dresses I tried on that were awesome. A good bra is going to be your best friend.

I felt most secure in a strapless with a corset back. I mean I walked around the store for 30 minutes with the first dress and I never had to pull up on it. The girls were in there firmly!
