10/23 wedding - to cancel or not?

Erin, on July 7, 2020 at 10:55 AM Posted in California Planning 0 12
Hi ladies! I am having a dilemma as I’m sure all of us are! My fiancé and I are due to get married at an indoor/outdoor venue in San Diego this October. When the COVID situation started we were optimistic we would be fine to have our wedding as planned (venue holds 200 but we were only planning on 100 and now less I’m sure) but with no signs of slowing down I’m starting to wonder if we need to move our date. We were thinking of trying to move it to the following October as a vow renewal ceremony but our venue is popular and they only have January, February, and December of next year Smiley sad and the venue, even though it could hold weddings outside as well, is not allowed to due to governors restrictions. Not sure if we should continue the wait and see game (most of our family is coming from out of town and plan to wedding or not I think) or just call it now ?

I’m sorry that you’re in a spot where you’re having to make that decision. We moved our July wedding to November 28, but I’m also concerned about the rise in cases now. We may end up moving to Plan C (elope somewhere gorgeous and get epic pictures and have a huge anniversary party next year), but are going to wait until 7-8 weeks before the wedding to make the decision. If you’re okay waiting until the 7-8 weeks out (in other words, before you send out invites) to see how it looks, that may solidify your decision, whichever it may be, a little better.

Thanks for this.. I read a similar article however I think that even if ceremonies are allowed that receptions are still not allowed unfortunately.

I would talk to someone at your county. I called the state COVID line and they said they weren't allowed because they are mass gatherings and then I asked if the guest count is only 50 and they said oh that should be fine, but it is up to your county. Then I talked to my county's public health officer and he gave me the green light.

Our County in the Bay area is allowing gatherings up to 60 starting July 13. Check with your County.

    Best of luck to you.

Do you happen to have the link for that for the Bay Area? I’m in SLO county and they still have us restricted for outdoor receptions, parties & dancing regardless if it is an outdoor or indoor event & can be spaced 6ft apart. I can have a ceremony of 100 guests just not a reception which makes no sense!
    Thank you!

To add to my post - do any of you know any California based contract lawyers ? Our venue has limited dates to reschedule for next year so we may not get to and we want to know all our options about refunds.
