Hi everyone! Are any of you brides having an issue postponing your fall weddings with your venues and what have your wedding planners and venues been saying regarding September-November weddings?

Our wedding is October 3rd in the Bay Area which is one of the hot spots area with an estimate of 150 people majority coming from out of state and a few international. Been trying to postpone for the safety of our guests and planning is stressful with all the unknowns but have been getting pushback from our venue saying that it is too soon and to wait. Ideally we'd like to postpone to fall 2021. What are you guys doing and any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks!!

We are October 4 in riverside county and have not postponed yet but have plan b in place if we need to. We have a date on hold with all our vendors in April that way they wouldn’t book up. See if your venue is open to a soft date hold for next year even if you are still in the wait and see mode

I’m November 4th, currently moving the date to spring 2021. I did have some troubles, it felt like they were trying to get me to not move it by offering crap dates I wouldn’t want. Once I told them I would cancel in September and request a refund as stated in our contract, they magically had dates and were happy to find a new date in spring 2021 to move to. I think these places are dying financially. A lot of these places can’t afford the loss of rebooking everyone. The reason I was going to wait for September 2020 to officially cancel is simply because the response from my venue was that they are delaying refunds until further notice. Due to their economy there is literally no money to give to me. I was also nervous about getting a date in 2021. (There are many factors I considered before moving from November) having said all that I am STILL waiting for them to give me a new date.

Hi Megan hope all is going well with you! We tried to see if other soft dates were available but my venue wouldn't even entertain that. All my other vendors were super understanding and open to postponement which left only my venue not willing to postpone at the moment. The only weddings they were postponing in September and October were with guest counts of 250 and over.

Oh okay. All you can do is wait and see and hope it all blows over by then! Wishing you the best!

Hi Isabel! I've definitely heard similar stories from other couples whose weddings are more than two months away!

Here are a few discussions where other California brides have been sharing their concerns and updates - you should definitely check them out:

We rescheduled our July 3 wedding to October 25, 2020, but now it looks like we'll probably postpone again. Our venue is in the Bay Area. The ceremony is outdoors and the reception is in an outdoor tent with some open side panels. Guest list - 150. Currently the shelter in place orders prohibit nonessential travel (even in stage 3). So technically out-of-county guest should not travel to your wedding. And the state just rolled back reopening in our county and our venue and our family's counties. I'm nervous our venue will not want us to postpone again, but we're planning to push back. We have a call with them next week. I regret not postponing to 2021 the first time. Sadly, I wish we could just cancel and plan something intimate but we've paid over $15k to the venue and vendors that we would not be able to get back, so a radical change of plans is out of the question.
