California Fall 2020 Brides

Sw1943, on June 5, 2020 at 3:37 PM Posted in California Planning 3 13
Hello! This question is specifically for CA brides since restrictions are still strong in most of the state. What have your wedding planners and venues been saying regarding September-November weddings?

Our original wedding was 135 people in Northern CA but we have since moved it to SoCal since that is where more family is. However, we do not know if we should plan for 50, 75 etc. guests. We have a soft hold on October 24th but don’t want to pay for a large site fee if it can only be a group of 25. I would love to hear what your wedding vendors/professionals have been saying regarding size!

Where in Southern California? My wedding is up north in Shasta County with 175 guests 10/10 and I don’t plan on postponing at all. There are way fewer cases up there so I expect the rules up north to be more lenient compared to where I am (LA County) by the time October rolls around.

Newport Beach! The whole Orange County area seems to be a lot more relaxed than the Bay Area.

If you're in orange county then i think it should be ok? a friend of mine is MOH for someone with an orange county wedding in september and she said the bride has no intention of postponing whatsoever

I'm getting married on 10/10/20 in Northern California. Our venue is located in a rural county where they don't have a lot of cases either. I just spoke with the venue owner last week, and she's feeling pretty positive that our wedding will still happen as planned. I'm inviting about 40 people, and will have social distancing measures in place if needed, like, sitting households together at tables, spreading out chairs for the ceremony, sanitation stations, and will provide masks if guests will want them. My only worry is the number of people at gatherings we can have (it's still at 10 I think) and if masks will need to be mandatory.

Yeah my immediate family alone is 40 so we’re praying we can have at least 75!

I am unfortunately in super strict Bay Area but we are just starting to allow indoor retail and outdoor dining will likely be allowed around June 15th so things are moving in the right direction. We have four months exactly as of this Sunday so praying the restrictions will not be too stringent 🙏🙏 hoping some sort of dancing is allowed and masks are not required but as if today we have no idea what our venue's restrictions might be because nothing has been announced yet regarding social gatherings 😢 makes it beyond difficult to plan. Just hoping they announce something before we re-order our invitations at the end of the month here... Don't want to spend another grand all for nothing!

We’re getting married Sept 13th in LA county and our original guest list is 300 people lol. Our venue assured us that they will be opening by July at half capacity and told us to keep planning as usual. We haven’t done a backup guest list yet but I won’t be surprised if we have to cut it in half.

I feel so bad that many are having to change their plans for their wedding. We actually are having our wedding in 2022 for family and friends since they did not get to come to the first wedding. We were going to have to November this year but decided 2022 would work best for us. I hope all works out ladies and that things get better for everyone. I really hope everyone gets to have every person on their original invite. Best wishes. 💛

My wedding is Oct. 2nd in Huntington Beach! We'd like 100 guests, but feel so uncertain on what we're actually going to be able to have in attendance. On top of that our venue staff has been laid off since March and not really providing updates to help reassure us. They're allowing us to postpone if we'd like starting July 1 and cancel August 1. If they're still closed into July, we'll likely cancel with them since we haven't sent out invites yet. Just won't feel like enough time to plan. Let us know what you decided!

Many of you are saying your not postponing but haven't answered the question, if your venue gave you the green light for whatever month the wedding is. I have a Sept. 5th wedding and my venue is not open, refunded July weddings, and they don't know yet. Bay area is still too strict. I have a guest list of 130 but many out of towners have said they will not be making the trip. Guest list is now at 100 for an outdoor wedding, Since I am not getting an answer from the venue I'm stuck with keep planning and hope or postpone till May.

Any thoughts of getting married and reception later? it would be our family only (less than 20). I wouldn't wear my dress till next May. I have my mother's 35th anniversary dress that fits perfectly on me (off white with beads all over going all the way down).

My daughter just changed her venue to Contra Costa County for her August wedding as they will begin doing weddings/receptions in July. Her original venue was in Alameda run by city government (parks and rec dept) but that county is moving slower with reopening and said it probably wouldn't be doing weddings until September.
