1 1/2 yr old ring bearer?

Snif, on July 21, 2010 at 1:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

We originally weren't going to have a ring bearer but after my family reunion this week I realized that all of the grandkids are in the wedding to some extent. My daughter is jr. bridesmaid, my soon-to-be niece is our flower girl and my brother and his wife have the most adorable son but he will only be a year and 1/2.

My thoughts were to either stick with not having a ring bearer or have SIL (who is a BM) carry him down the aisle. I just think that if we have him totter down the aisle himself we might be waiting all day Smiley winking

Does anyone have any similar situations or opinions on this? Thanks!

You could always have the FG pull him in some sort of wagon...I think it's cute!

I was just going to say what Analy said! Decorate a wagon and have the FG pull him down.

Oh that would be so adorable!! He's kind of a rambunctious little guy I wonder if he'd stay in the wagon though... I can just see our 5 yr old FG being like 'kid, sit!' lol.

Give it a shot. If it doesn't work out. Hand him off to a close family family member.

Thats so cute! im thinking about doing something similar with my cuzins kids. my cousin is actually performing the ceremony, and i thought his almost 2 year old would be cute as a flower girl, but may need help making it down the aisle without gettin distracted. don tknow yet! but i do love the wagon idea!!!

I just shot the idea off to my SIL so we'll see what she thinks. He'll change so much from now until then so I think it's more of gauging his 'crowd demeanor' closer to the wedding.

    Thanks ladies!!

You could put a family member in charge of him incase he decides to get out of the wagon. They could be on the look out and if he starts to climb, they can be the one to run out to him.

If you get the right wagon there are seat belts if your afraid of him climbing out. I think the wagon is a great idea. Is he 1 1/2 now or will he be 1/12 then? At close to two I thnk he could walk(run down the aisle expesailly if Mom or dad is in the wedding party.

I'm going to have my 2 year old nephew and my 1 year old nephew. I'm hoping they make it down the aisle! I'm sure they will as both of their mothers our in my wedding so they should be able to coax them down if need be! I think they'll be cute!

Mine is 1 1/2, and he was supposed to be an "honorary ring bearer" and be in pics but not walk...well, his parents didnt like that idea. I think it'll be okay, I am totally ready and embracing that fact that he'll probably chuck the pillow at the floor and go running in a random direction. So I'm not making my flower girl walk with him, he's walking before her, because it would freak her out I think.

We'll have 5 child attendants all under 5 years old. People think that I'm crazy, but I love kids, and couldn't imagine not including them. We will have 3 FGs (FHs twin neices, who will be almost 4, and the daughter of one of my BMs, who will be almost 3) and 2 RBs (my nephew, who will be 4 1/2, and FHs nephew who will be 2 1/2). We'll be pairing the "little" ones with "bigger" ones so that will hopefully help.

I agree with others on here about having the little guy walk with the flower girl, or have her pull him in a wagon.

Other people may have had more luck...but I've been to two weddings where the littlest ones were freaked out by the crowd and ended up in tears.

I'd play it by ear up until the day/week of the wedding and see where the kid is developmentally at that point. You can see if he's hitting the "stranger anxiety" phase (usually some time between 12 and 18 months) or if he happens to just like crowds.

Our RB is FH's nephew who will be 1 yr and 8 months old but he's the cutest little thing! Were going to have his mom it towards the front and hope he goes to her, we know it might go wrong, but we want him to be in it.

I'd stick to not having a ring bearer lol. But I admittedly am impatient and easily annoyed. We specifically didn't have ring bearer or flower girls. We went to a wedding last year where the ring bearer stood up there and fidgeted the entire time. We decided right then and there we wouldn't have any kids in the wedding lol.

I went to a wedding last year with a 2 year old ring bearer, his mom was one of the bridesmaids tho so she just carried him down the aisle. he held an oversized ring with a ribbon bow on it that he could play with. but don't ask the kid's mother to spend $$$ on something he's never going to wear again. maybe he has a little vest and shirt already that would look fine.

Why don't you have the FG hold hands with the RB? That is cute or have SIL hold his hand and walk him down.

My FG is going to be just under 2 and her Mom, my MOH, is going to hold her hand and they'll walk down the aisle together.
