How and when did you combine your finances?

So, my future husband bought a house about ten years ago. It’s a cute, tiny ranch in a sort of rundown town. I, meanwhile, have dreamed of a big old Victorian or brick mansion in a city for years. How do I reconcile my dream with my reality?
