  Amazing photography for wedding and beyond!

  We absolutely LOVED working with Katie! She is delightful, responsive, professional, not to mention her photos are SPECTACULAR! WE could not have dreamed of a more wonderful experience. We put the most value on photos because those are the best depiction of the memories from the wedding day - and we could not be more happy with Katie's work and service!

  I absolutely LOVED working with Katie and her second shooter, Chuck. I looked long and hard for my wedding photographer because I am very picky about photos, and Katie was The One. My running joke throughout wedding planning was that it was easier to decide on the man I was going to marry, than it was deciding on a wedding photographer, especially with how many there are in this area.
  
  I felt like I couldn't put into words what I was looking for, except for, "timeless, raw, dramatic" and I told her I just didn't want the typical "over exposed, sunny" style that's really common now... and she delivered. She has such an eye for lighting, and can take the most boring backdrop and make it interesting.
  
  She's a bit more laid back and her confidence is really reassuring if your wedding day is really stressful. She was able to work around some last minute changes we experienced with the venue, and her turnaround time on the photos were great. Whenever I share my photos, people go nuts for them because they're just so dramatic and the way she captures emotions is AMAZING.
  
  I cannot recommend her enough. I still look at her website time to time and her photos always gives me goosebumps.

  Katie was so sweet--she's the kind of person you want to patronize! Her assistant, Chris, was also really easy going and funny. They made the wedding day so much less stressful!
  
  Katie did an amazing job with our photos! We have received so many compliments saying how artistic she is and how wonderful our photos are. She can make a plain background look great!! She really has an artistic eye for lighting and capturing the moment. She is also conscious of shooting at angles that will make you look good. She got so many great photos capturing the emotions and moments without intruding on our day! I didn't even realize she was there, but yet she was able to capture every aspect of the day.

  Katie & Thomas (Merkle) did my friend's engagement photos last fall, and I was impressed -- so I checked them out for my engagement photos too. Katie responded right away, and I liked that they offered a "one hour" package as well as the "lifestyle shoot" that is typical. She was flexible in letting me feel out what I needed, but this arrangement made Merkle Photography more than competitive on price.
  
  It took a few reschedules to get to our session -- my ring resizing, the weather, an injury Katie sustained -- but when we finally got to a Saturday that worked for all of us, it was freezing cold outside. (January - what a month to do photos!) Katie and Thomas didn't blink an eye and met us at the icy tidal basin for some 20 degree photography. We lasted about 20 minutes out there, and then I asked them to go to a museum -- one they'd never been to. They did an incredible job finding creative shots and working with an unfamiliar location. My advice: just follow their advice! They know what shots they are going for, and they will be striking and unique.
  
  A sneak peek of 5 photos was up the same night (woah), and we were just blown away by shots we didn't even realize they were getting. Our friends can't get over what genuine artists we found for a routine engagement shoot. I wish I could afford to fly Katie out to my wedding in CA, too! They had short turnaround and every photo was just great. I also liked that they didn't just dump hundreds of photos on us - they culled it down to the best, so picking our favorites wasn't so overwhelming. Love these folks!

  Katie and her husband Thomas are wonderful! They are both very sweet. Their work is amazing. We wanted very timeless and classic photos for our historical mansion wedding, and Merkle Photography was the perfect fit. The photos will not look outdated in 10, 20, or 100 years. Their style is more documentary, which is what I wanted in a photographer. They are very quick to capture the special moments of your day, and they definitely excel at capturing emotions. Their photos are composed like beautiful paintings but are sharp at the same time. They are not obtrusive so you do not feel like your photographer is running the show or getting in the way -- Katie and Thomas let you enjoy your day with your guests and just capture it all in pictures. Having a close family member as a wedding photographer, I had access to a ton of different photographers to use, and no one else out there has the classy style like the Merkles. My wedding day went by so quickly, so having the Merkles cover it all really helped me to remember the special parts of the wedding. Future generations will be able to really see what our wedding was like -- they can see the posed portraits but can also see my husband's face during our first look, the excitement for my flower girl as she saw us cutting the cake, the laughs among my bridesmaids as we were getting ready, etc. The photos tell the story of our wedding day and really capture our personalities. I am so happy we now have timeless, beautiful photos capturing our wedding day, and I am SO glad we used Merkle Photography. And as a bonus, Katie gets your photos back to you really quickly!

  LOVE LOVE LOVE Merkle Photography! Really, look no further for a photographer for your wedding. Just check out her blog - her photography is magazine worthy. She captured many great candids and moments that my husband and I would have missed otherwise. Her pictures are going to be family treasures for years to come. She also stayed in the background during the reception so we were able to enjoy that time with our guests.

  Katie Merkle is PHENOMENAL. Our wedding photos turned out better than we ever could have imagined, and we have not stopped getting compliments on them since. She is responsive, helpful and SO talented. I cannot recommend her strongly enough! If you want gorgeous photos that are perfect reminders of your wedding day, look no further!

  We used Merkle Photography for our engagement and wedding photos. When we started planning our wedding, we knew photography was an important aspect for us. We are very thankful we decided to use Katie Merkle. Not only is she a talented photographer, she has a great balance of creativity, style, and timelessness. Katie was able to use natural lighting and her keen eye to capture beautiful moments as they happened, rather than solely relying on people posing and staring at the camera. Katie was extremely friendly, and made us feel comfortable every second we were with her. In addition, she provided us with our photos quickly after the ceremony, which was an added surprise. Our engagement and wedding photos are without a doubt some of the best photos of us we have ever had.
  
  Each of our vendors was important for our wedding, but for us, photography was one of the most important. Katie delivered above and beyond, and we highly recommend her. One thing to keep in mind is Katie only books a set number of events a year in order to keep her commitment to her clients. Therefore, we recommend contacting her and booking as soon as possible.

We were offered a free wedding package from a family member who has made a living as a wedding photographer for probably 20 years, but we chose to use Katie instead. I wanted artistic, creative, vintage, and candid shots and that is exactly what Katie does. She has a natural talent and captures the moments perfectly!

Katie and her husband Thomas work great together to cover everything, providing both beautiful and artistic photos. The best part...we had photos online within a week and preview shots the very next day! The photos are even better than I could have imagined and they set the bar high with our engagement shoot. I would highly recommend them to any brides in the MD/DC area.

  Merkle photography was one of the best choices I made for the wedding. The pictures were amazing including the engagement picture photoshoot. The packages were very reasonable. Katie and her husband were a pleasure to work with. At the ceremenony and reception, they got pictures of everything but weren't the center of attention.   Katie Merkle was wonderful to work with for our wedding! She is very nice, accomodating, and patient to work with. She is also very organized and has an amazing portfolio of her work. We had an engagement photo session in which Katie was very flexible. She gave great direction and took amazingly artistic and beautiful photos. Our wedding photos were great as well, and were done within a week! Everyone I showed the photos to are amazed at how perfect they are. I highly recommend Merkle Photography!

  She's an absolute delight to work with. Very artistic, very friendly, and delivers top quality photos very quickly. Our album and the parent albums were done quickly nd beautifully. For us, photos were the most important part of our wedding (even more than the video) and we were extremely fortunate to have met Katie at the Wedding Expo in August.

  Katie Merkle was our photographer for our late August 2013 wedding and we loved working with her. Her style very much fit with what we had in mind for a photographer - we did not want many formal shots and valued the authenticity of a candid photo. She was such a joy to work with, she is very easy going with a wonderful sense of humor and an eye for the most beautiful pictures. My husband and I also booked an engagement photo session with Katie to use in a guestbook that we also ordered for her. Our guests raved about the guestbook, saying it was so unique and they enjoyed the casual photographs or us enjoying time together. On the day of our wedding, I was so happy to see Katie, it was like seeing an old friend walk into our bridal suite! We were lucky to have someone so talented photograph our wedding. Our guests remarked following the reception how they appreciated the photographers never got in the way and were only on the perimeter letting the guests enjoy their time while getting a perfect picture. We loved so many of the wedding photographs. I would say hiring Katie Merkle as a photographer is an investment, but a very promising and justified one. I could not be happier with my wedding photos and I thank my lucky stars we were able to hire her!

  Katie and Thomas are amazing. This husband and wife team were a pleasure to work with and exceeded all of our expectations. They fit right into our wedding and took absolutely amazing photos of the entire day.
  
  Our package included an engagement photo session. We used our engagement session photos for our guest book, which was very high quality and looked great.

  Katie and Thomas are amazing. This husband and wife team were a pleasure to work with and exceeded all of our expectations. They fit right into our wedding and took absolutely amazing photos of the entire day.
  
  Our package included an engagement photo session. We used our engagement session photos for our guest book, which was very high quality and looked great.

  Katie and Thomas are extremely talented and so easy to work with! The day of our wedding, they worked with us (and our videographer) to ensure they were able to get every moment, without being invasive. I could tell, throughout the day, that they were always thinking of the big picture and making sure the captured our story. Then, two days later, I was able to see it on their blog! I loved being able to share those pictures with all of my friends and family. Katie and Thomas definitely have an eye for great pictures!

I really feel like they are straight out of a magazine. It is a husband and wife team, so they were able to catch every angle and worked HARD the entire wedding and before. I will post some examples for all to admire, but you can see a lot on their blog. They book up quick and take really good direction. Not the most outspoken pair (unlike my family) so I worried sometimes that we were running them ragged!But so sweet and wonderful results!
