  Melissa was amazing to work with!

  My fiance and I hired Melissa for our engagement photo shoot in DC. She was amazing and would highly recommend! The photos came out beautifully. Melissa has a knack for finding unique poses and prompts that make the photos pop! We got two hours with her and around 300 photos. Definitely got our money's worth. She was a nice and pleasant person to work with.

  Melissa was an amazing photographer and made us feel comfortable and special on our wedding day!

  Melissa was a fantastic photographer to work with. From the very beginning she was personable, professional, and helpful. We never had any worries about her being able to make our wedding day very special. We planned our wedding while constantly moving around the US, and Melissa always remained flexible and willing to accommodate our sometimes unpredictable schedule. Leading up to the wedding, she always made herself available for questions and put us in touch with a fantastic DJ vendor that we ended up selecting. During our wedding, despite never meeting in person, she instantly made us feel comfortable and had us laughing and having a great time. She brought our natural smiles and laughs and gave us amazing pictures that we will always cherish. Throughout the whole day, she made sure she got the pictures that were most important to us and was there every step of the way to make sure she didn’t miss any moments. We had selected a unique first look location, and she was was willing to go above and beyond to make it work. Her second shooter was just as fabulous and helped capture another side of our wedding. You spend so much of your day with your photographer, and we were glad ours was Melissa as she added to our day and helped make it a blast. We really can’t say enough great things about Melissa and highly recommend her to anyone that is looking for a fantastic photographer.

  Talented and great to work with!

  Melissa Hoko was the first vendor I hired, and I am so glad I did! She photographed my sister’s wedding and knew I didn’t want anyone else for my big day. Melissa was responsive, professional, and an all around great person to work with. She gave me great advice while planning out the day, and even helped with timelines and gave recommendations from her experience. We had a very large bridal party, something I didn’t realize is probably a challenge for photographers... wrangling a big group of boozy groomsmen and figuring out how to fit everyone into a pretty photo :) and she organized everything quickly and perfectly so that we could capture moments but also enjoy our day. I am blown away by our our photos of the day; and everything was captured so beautifully. Thank you Melissa!!!

  Amazing Photographer!

  Fairfax, VA Wedding

  Melissa and her photo-partner Monique did a great job capturing our wedding. My husband and I wanted natural laughs, smiles, and candid shots, and they did an amazing job capturing all. Plus, they rolled with the punches of photographing our 13 nieces and nephews-- kids are in their own element a lot of time, and Melissa and Monique did a fabulous job getting shots of the children. Great experience planning the wedding day, during the day of, and delivering the digital prints and photo albums. 10/10 would hire Melissa Hoko again.

  Engagement, Wedding and Baby! Melissa is THE BEST!

  I cannot recommend Melissa enough! Not only does Melissa capture the most incredible moments of your special day she is truly a delight to work with. We first met Melissa in person when we took out engagement shots on the National Mall. We knew in minutes that we had found a true gem to work with. Melissa made us feel so relaxed and comfortable. She also worked with us to incorporate our rambunctious dog into a few shots!
  Our wedding shots take hours to look through because Melissa captured so many beautiful moments! Our wedding party, family and friends all enjoyed working with her! She added an extra layer of fun to our day as she seamlessly incorporated herself into our activities.
  Needless to say, two years later, when it came to having family photos/newborn photos taken of our newly formed family of three, we reached out to Melissa. There was no one else we would want to capture these special moments as a family. Melissa came to our home when our son was 6 days old and we love all of our photos! Having a newborn is stressful enough and Melissa made this the most relaxed experience and took quality time working with us.

  I can't say enough good things about Monique & Melissa from MoniLissa Photography! I absolutely adore them. I fell in love with their photography style years ago after they photographed a friend's wedding. While I was engaged, they photographed my coworker's wedding and my brother's wedding, which were amazing. I was thrilled to finally have them photograph mine! The package includes an engagement session, so we did ours in Ocean City, MD. I love that MoniLissa is willing to do engagement photos all over MD. We got amazing photos and ended up using one for our Save The Dates. A few weeks before the wedding, MoniLissa emailed us a rough timeline, and after a few emails back and forth, we worked the day out perfectly. I even sent a list of photos I'd love, and they accommodated every single request! I am thrilled with our posed photos (i.e. large family photos), but we also have so many incredibly "artsy" photos as well. It is going to be SO difficult deciding which photos get framed in our house since there are so many great photos. Monique & Melissa are phenomenal at posing and capturing the perfect moment. At the wedding they were totally unobtrusive and were really respectful of all the guests. We have had tons of compliments on our wedding photos, and we couldn't have been happier with our selection.   My husband and I LOVED working with Monique and Melissa! We found out about them through a friend who used them for their wedding a few years ago when their company first was getting started. Their style of photography and the vision they see for various photos are amazing.
  Our experience with them made me realize that they are two very caring and compassionate women who love what they do and really care about their clients. My husband's grandfather had passed away a few days before our engagement session, and without hesitation, MoniLissa offered to reschedule us for a date that we could pick that was more convenient to us within that same week. They were always quick to respond on their email correspondences with us and could answer any questions that we had.
  I was an incredibly laid back bride, so I let them do their own thing when it came to the wedding day. I knew there were certain pictures I wanted, but for the most part, they found the best shots that I would never have even thought of. Definitely check out their blog and look at the pictures! Our wedding day was BEAUTIFUL -- the perfect fall day -- and they used every ounce of sunlight and fall foliage that they could to capture the very best.
  I highly recommend these ladies to be your photographers for your wedding. My sister-in-law is getting married in May 2014 and will be using them too! Very reasonably priced for what you get in return. :)

  We couldn't have asked for better photographers! We felt so comfortable with Melissa from the initial meeting (and although we didn't meet Monique until the wedding, we felt just as comfortable with her as well). Our engagement shoot was in Annapolis, MD. After a quick drink, Melissa and Jenn (who was filling in for Monique while on maternity leave) made us feel relaxed and comfortable. They directed us in the poses and we had a great time! We found some really cool places for the shoot in Annapolis and the pictures turned out great! The day of our wedding, Monique and Melissa took pictures of the guys first (and had a great time) and then of the bride and the bridesmaids. Although it rained, they were able to come up with some creative pictures that were just beautiful. The first glance was really special to us and they certainly captured our emotions. Throughout the ceremony and the reception, Monique and Melissa were in so many places at once and really captured the entire day in the best way possible. Their creative eye really impressed us. The photography was one of our most important components to the wedding and they exceeded our expectations! It is really cool to be featured on their blog for both the engagement session and the wedding. We really can't say enough great things about them and can't thank them enough!

  We loved working with Monique and Melissa. My husband and I don't often have pictures taken and we were not looking forward to the engagement photos or this part of the wedding. The ladies were fantastic. That put at us at ease and we ended up having a great time. The pictures turned out great and we are excited to remember our wedding through those photos forever.

  My husband found MoniLissa photography when I asked for photographers who use a photojournalistic style. I didn't want a lot of stuffy posed photographs. I prefer photos that capture a moment as it is happening. I got exactly what I wanted with MoniLissa. The photographers, Monique and Melissa, met with my husband and I beforehand so that we could talk about our vision for our wedding and our photographs. I really felt like they "got" us. They were reasonably priced and fantastic to work with. They were organized, enthusiastic, and very talented. They really went above and beyond the call of duty by volunteering to show up early so that they could photograph me getting my hair and makeup done. Everyone in our wedding party was impressed with their efforts and the pictures came out beautifully! They sent me over 500 edited images on a CD within 2 months of our wedding and I can't wait to print them, make albums, turn them into holiday cards, and give them as gifts. I especially loved this option, as a lot of photographers will maintain the rights to your images and not allow you print, copy, or distribute them without purchasing expensive prints directly from the photographer. My husband and I plan to have them photograph all of our future life events.

  Monique and Melissa are wonderful!! They are two very talented women who take their work very seriously! They take beautiful photos and are soo much fun also!! i would 100% reccommend them to future brides!!

  Monique and Melissa, were wonderful photographers for our wedding! They made my husband and I feel so comfortable and at ease while taking the photos at the wedding and the engagement session. They captured so many wonderful moments from our wedding that I even didn't see and now I have these wonderful memories in print. You can tell by their enthusiasm that they really love and genuinely enjoy photography. Our wedding day went so smoothly between the getting ready shots, the ceremony, family portraits and reception, we never had to worry about a thing! I would highly recommend MoniLissa Photography to anyone planning a wedding!

  I am very pleased with the photographs from my engagement and wedding. Monique and Melissa were very professional and curteous during the engagement shoot, even though they were both pregnant and it was very hot out. They were patient and very creatively different, which I love about them. They improvise and don't stage photos. They are open to the candid shots. I haven't received my wedding photos yet, but I do not doubt that they will be fantastic. On our wedding day Melissa couldn't be there because she just had her little boy, but the replacement photographer, Renee, was a joy to be around and was very professional. I love the creative aspect MoniLissa offers and will definitely be using them in the future! The value I received for their services was amazing!

I love how they capture candid moments through their photo-journalistic style…it's exactly what we were looking for in a photographer. You can really tell they love what they do.   We loved MoniLissa photography! We used them for both our engagement session and wedding photographers. They were willing to travel far distances and were always on time. What we loved about Monique and Melissa was how comfortable they made us feel. Posing in front of a camera can be awkward, but they made us feel relaxed. At the wedding, they were very inconspicuous, never getting in the way. We barely even noticed them!
  What we were most impressed with was the picture quality and the huge range of shots that they captured. No one was left out of the pictures. Some were posed, some were candid and fun. The quality and art of their pictures show how talented Monique and Melissa are at their jobs. Thank you so much, ladies! You helped to make the memories of our special day last a lifetime!
