The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain is a wedding and events venue situated in Gerton, North Carolina. Set on 75 acres of uninterrupted landscape on the ridge of the eastern continental divide, this picturesque venue is the ideal spot to host the scenic celebration of your dreams. Here you can experience stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounded by verdant nature as you celebrate your momentous occasion. Located only 16 miles away from Asheville, you and your guests can experience uninhibited seclusion with easy access to the city.

Facilities and Capacities

The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain offers indoor and outdoor spaces where you can celebrate an exclusive event of up to 100 guests. The grounds provide a naturally shaded location where you can host a magical, intimate wedding ceremony with loved ones. After you've exchanged your vows, you and your wedding party can begin the celebrations in the Pavilion. This versatile 1600-square-foot space offers a romantic open-air spot for you to host a lively wedding reception. The Pavilion can be covered in the event of bad weather and boasts a range of facilities, including electricity, water, lighting, and a sound system with speakers. This venue's staff will happily extend their invitation for the weekend so you can enjoy the venue and its amenities to the fullest. They offer overnight accommodation for 28 guests in their two large country homes, Bearwallow Retreat and Bearwallow Cottage. Complete with rustic decor, large covered decks, hot tubs, grills, fire pits, and fully equipped kitchens, you and your guests can anticipate a truly relaxing stay in these spaces.

The natural beauty of the poplar trees and the breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains offer a blank canvas for you to create and execute your own unique wedding vision. You are welcome to use your choice of vendors in the area, but should you like some direction, their team can provide you with a list of trusted suppliers. The private property offers multiple acres for nature walks and exploring, including two off-site hiking trails on Bearwallow Mountain. The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain staff offers venue tours by appointment so you can view the picturesque mountainscape and their charming event spaces before the big day.

Perfect retreat for our wedding week!

We had the most magical experience at The Poplars in May, 2022. We rented the houses and pavilion for a week and are so glad we did. Our family and guests were able to arrive early and enjoy beautiful Bearwallow Mountain- hiking on the nature conservancy trails and hanging out in the hot tubs. The houses were designed thoughtfully, with everything we needed for the week. The owner was responsive and helpful- making sure all of our needs were met throughout the week and for our rehearsal dinner. We had 75 person rehearsal dinner at the Poplars Pavilion and everyone loved the venue. The weather was beautiful- a spring fog settled between The Poplars and it was magic! The catering company, Celine and Company, had no problem accessing or setting up at the venue. My husband and I 10/10 recommend this venue. We are so thankful we had this quiet, gorgeous retreat during our wedding week! Thank you Poplars team!

Wedding Guest thoroughly Impressed

My friend hosted her wedding reception here, and it was absolutely stunning! Our family stayed overnight in one of the cabins, and it was clean, charming, and well-stocked. Alan and Annie (the hosts) made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay and had everything we needed. The grounds are gorgeous and it was so nice that we all had our own personal space in the cabin while still getting to stay together under one roof.

Kickass spot in the mountains!

My sisters wedding was magical because of The Poplars. Her whole bridal party stayed in the upper cabin and had a blast getting ready and hanging in the hot tub before the big day. The ceremony was beautiful, filled with mountain views and lush green nature as far as the eye could see. The guys stayed in the lower cabin and we had a great time cooking some awesome food, soaking in the hot tub, and even went for an awesome hike to the top of Bearwallow Mountain. What a weekend, so happy they chose this venue.

The best wedding weekend

This venue couldn’t have been any more perfect. The owner, Alan, was VERY responsive and accommodating. He continues to upkeep and add features to the venue. All of my guests couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was. We had about 90 guests and we fit comfortably with extra space if we needed it. We also loved that our wedding party and family was able to stay on site. It was the perfect weekend for us.

Most picturesque venue

We had our wedding at the Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain this past October and I don't believe there exists any other place more perfect than this, at least not for us. We had a destination wedding and wanted a place in which all of our family could stay for the weekend. It was a perfect Fall weekend.
Alan and Annie were very accommodating and helpful. We booked the place without even visiting. I was in the area a couple of weeks before the wedding and scheduled a walkthrough with Alan. He took the time to show me the property, gave us pointers and suggestions based on what others had done before and toured the houses. I provided the layout for our tables for the pavilion, our ceremony chairs as well as our timeline and it was all set up before we arrived. It was so nice to have the extra time to decorate and hang out with our friends and families.

The perfect wedding experience

Words can not even describe how wonderful and what an absolute godsend The Poplars at Bearwallow Mountain was as a wedding venue and accommodations for both my family and my in-laws. Planning a wedding during Covid was a nightmare and I found The Poplars after having one wedding venue cancelled on me (less than 2 months before the wedding). I couldn’t be more happy about the last minute changes. The events director, Kristen, was so helpful and quick to respond to any questions I had. I had been left hanging several times with the previous venue, so that was extremely appreciated. When we were there for the event both the owner, Alan, and Kristen were extremely helpful and bent over backwards to make it a wonderful experience for all of us. Both for the wedding day itself as well as the week that we stayed on the property. The two houses on the property are absolutely beautiful and the pavilion was exactly we wanted: an area big enough to have food and dancing as well as tables to sit and eat. I really couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends. While I don’t recommend starting from scratch less than months before your wedding, I do highly recommend booking The Poplars :) It was worth all the last minute stress. Not only was it significantly cheaper than any other venue I looked at, it has beautiful views from the venue and both accommodations.

Remarkable

This venue was perfect for our intimate ceremony. The adventurous drive up the mountain is rewarded by breathtaking views and a tranquil privacy that you wouldn’t be able to find at most venues. We enjoyed having the days before the ceremony to spend time with our families in the beautiful cottages and prepare for the big day. I’d also like to mention that the owner is very accommodating and the events director Kristen is so helpful and thorough!

Amazing wedding

My husband and I just had our wedding at their amazing venue! It was perfect! Spectacularly beautiful! Alan and Anne worked with us every step of the way and were such great hosts! The house is spacious and clean. We had plenty of room for our whole bridal party. There’s great hiking right off the property, but the property itself has gorgeous views of the mountains! I 100% recommend their cabin for events, wedding, weekend get aways, and personal retreats!
