The Hitching Post is a stunning rustic wedding venue located in Dayton, Maine. This idyllic New England barn was built in 1830, and features a number of striking indoor and outdoor spaces to host your wedding ceremony and reception. The Hitching Post is situated on 100 acres of sprawling land alongside the Saco River, providing couples with the ability to bask in gorgeous natural scenery while they enter the next sacred chapter of their love story. The Hitching Post provides a number of special services in order to pave their clients a smooth and fun-filled path into marriage.

Facilities and Capacity

Couples are invited to exchange their vows underneath a beautiful timber frame arbor, while their loved ones look on from several rows of stylish wooden benches arranged on their pristine lawn. Breathtaking natural scenery and a surrounding forest of trees will frame your fairytale ceremony, adding unparalleled atmosphere to your special moment.

The Hitching Post also offers couples a gorgeous, indoor barn venue, perfect for wedding receptions. This space features rustic barn board tables and elegant Chiavari chairs fitted with ivory cushions. The Hitching Post’s barn also provides guests with amble dance-floor space, and has a maximum occupancy of 150 guests.

The Hitching Post has limited availability and offers to host wedding ceremonies and receptions from May through October. The Hitching Post has an extensive network of trusted vendors available in order to provide a smooth event, including officiants, catering and bar services, photographers, wedding cake companies, event planners, lighting and drapery services, floral services, as well as wedding bands and DJs. Wonderful from start to finish

As soon as we walked into the Hitching post I knew it was the venue for our big day. Angela (the owner) was so kind and laid back and so easy to work with. She keeps the venue so immaculate including the landscaping and yard. It’s so beautiful there I really didn’t feel like I need to add a whole lot of decor. The price for the rental is very reasonable compared to a few other barn type venues we looked at that we’re literally a blank space with nothing and not well kept. We ended up contacting Angela a few times last minute to stop by the venue and she was always very accommodating. She helped out with our day of as well. Highly recommend checking out the hitching post!

Best of the best!!

Angela was fantastic! She was so responsive to all my emails about things, and kept in touch along the way about every detail. She ensured everything was done smoothly, and each detail fit what Darryl and I wanted for the wedding.
She takes great care of the grounds, the flowers and lawn. The Hitching Post is a photographers dream!! There are so many wonderful opportunities for pictures. The antique truck, the HP gates, along with all the flowers, the rolling hills, etc. It's an incredible spot for weddings, and Angela is an absolute pleasure to work with!!

The best barn wedding EVER!

The Hitching Post was the PERFECT place for our wedding on 7/24/21. Throughout the planning process, Angela was a supreme pleasure to work with. She was on-site throughout the day to just make sure things were going smoothly (which honestly felt really reassuring!) and boy, did things go smoothly. Her vendor recommendations were spot-on and she was able to answer any and all questions we had in the year(s!!) leading up to our special day. You never know what's going to happen with wedding planning, and we dealt with a worst-case-scenario situation when COVID hit after we had booked the barn months prior. But Angela proved to be the most flexible, professional, and kind vendor imaginable. We are so grateful for the way in which she approached things in such an uncertain time, so we can say wholeheartedly that, when you're planning a wedding and need a team that can be flexible and fair, Angela would be an outstanding member of that team.

The barn itself is just... breathtaking. There are really no words to describe how beautiful it looked. We got the lighting and drapery package as well and found that it gave the barn that little touch of elegance that swept our guests off their feet. There are also four single-stall bathrooms for guests to use (no lines!!) and the bar area is spacious as well. We were able to use the outdoor ceremony spot, which was PERFECTLY shaded for our 4pm ceremony, and then guests really enjoyed the patio and brand-new porch space during cocktail hour. We had 109 guests and found that the space felt perfectly full but still roomy. Do yourself a favor and book Angela and her beautiful barn for your special day!!

The absolute best place to get married!

The best decision we made about our wedding was deciding to have it at the Hitching Post. From two showings (in the dead of winter), needing to post-pone our original day due to COVID, to the final wedding day in accordance with state guidelines - Angela was highly accommodating, flexible and kind. Her communication was top notch - always being available for questions or clarifications. She was onsite for the event and helped to keep everything running smoothly. The venue was gorgeous and beautifully prepared for the wedding day. Overall the Hitching Post was phenomenal to work with and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Amazing location for our June wedding!

We got married at The Hitching Post on 6/29/19 – and we cannot possibly thank Angela enough for everything she did for us in setting our wedding up from across the country. The venue is absolutely beautiful. The grounds allow for a natural transition from ceremony, to outdoor cocktail hour, to indoor reception. You really have to do very little to the barn in preparation, as the space is beautiful as is. It was so convenient and helpful to have access to the barn the day before, and morning after the wedding. Weather showed possibilities of thunder storms the afternoon of our wedding, and Angela had the barn completely prepped for an indoor ceremony – which luckily we didn’t need. We received so many compliments on how beautiful our wedding was and how beautiful the space is. Angela was so quick to respond to emails, so kind in answering our sometimes silly questions, and so gracious and fun in watching our crazy families let loose. We cannot recommend this space highly enough, and are so thankful for having Angela help make our day so special!
