My daughter always wanted to get married on Lake Erie. The Suncliff made all her dreams come true. The owners, Brenda and David were wonderful to work with and attended to every detail. The Chef, Johnny, provided an excellent meal that everyone enjoyed. It was the perfect setting and a memorable evening.

I attended a wedding at this place Oct. 19, 2019. This is the perfect place for a wedding. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.

My daughter Amanda and my new Son-in-law Bart had the most Beautiful Wedding on 5-26-18! Their outdoor wedding was the perfect setting on the Beautifully landscaped gazebo and the mansion was breathtakeing as they walked to each other! HHosts David and Brenda were incredibly accommodating and gracious, doing everything possible to make for an incredible experience! The property is phenomenal and the views of the lake are stunning.

SunCliff on the Lake was the first venue I looked into when I got engaged in May 2023 (waited 2 years to get married.) We only looked at one other venue, which I won't name because I'm not a picky person, but the place was very.... Robotic. SunCliff was not on any of the wedding websites and I can barely find anything on here still. Since May of 2023, I had been in constant contact with Brenda, one of the owners. She was very helpful, personable, not fake, hyper, but never once did I have a worry about booking the venue and she answered all of my questions in a timely manner and let us come visit the venue whenever we had concerns.
They also hired a wedding coordinator, Yvonne, that absolutely made our wedding so beautiful. She is absolutely a great day of coordinator, so if you think you want to book Suncliff, you don't need one other than her. During the rehearsal she was very blunt and precise, as she was on the wedding day. She made sure everyone was in check, where they needed to be and made it snappy. Day of, she was there and ready to wrangle up anything that needed to be done. I thought I would have to set everything up but all we had to do was bring the decor, etc. the day before. When I got there at 11am, they had everything set up and it all exceeded anything I'd ever expected. We also rented the upstairs Inn for our wedding party. There are a few suites with bathrooms and rooms with shared bathrooms but it fit our entire wedding party with room to spare and everyone loved it. They also have a giant fire pit that they bring alcohol to when the wedding is over, which was awesome. Everything Suncliff put together was perfect, I couldn't ask for a better venue and experience. Our guests had so much fun, the food was amazing and the property is to die for. We took all of our pictures there because there's so much inside and outside that make for perfect pictures. Suncliff is a diamond in the rough and I think maybe they had some hiccups in the beginning from the few reviews I had read, but we had an amazing experience from start to finish. Don't overlook this venue! They've definitely gotten much better than the old reviews.

Prospective brides should be wary of this place.
The owners haven’t a clue about running a wedding venue. Their lack of experience, indecision, and inability to iron out simple details is extremely worrisome for anyone looking to plan a wedding here.
We signed a contract for our 2019 wedding and after the owners sat on it for 3 weeks, they informed us they were changing the terms and we were required to block and pay for all of the “hotel” rooms. We accepted the new terms and decided to continue even though they made it clear that WE would be responsible for managing all of the rooms for the guests and collecting money from them (on top of all of the other things involved in planning a wedding!). The next time we met, we learned they booked a wedding the day before ours meaning we wouldn’t be able to use the space for our rehearsal. They had no solution for this except to change the date of our wedding, which was unacceptable.

We initially visited the property in April and again in July. They made a ton of progress and improvements during this time. However, we visited again early October and nothing looked any different except for the solar lawn lanterns strapped to the wrought iron veranda railing with black electrical tape (really?). The ceremony arbor is falling apart and there are weeds growing up through the sidewalk where ceremonies are held.

We were going to have our 2019 wedding here but pulled the plug after I decided I couldn’t live in worry for a year about the state of the property and what else the owners might fail to do or think of. I've never felt such a relief. They really need to invest in a wedding consultant and a dedicated wedding coordinator. They often take days, if not a full week to respond to emails. This is something I could not deal with. Good luck to others who may consider pursuing this venue.

Facility was filthy.
Bartenders didn't Even know how to make the signature drinks that were chosen by the bride and groom.
Servers were rude.
Food was horrifying. Appetizers were bland and cold. . Entree was unimaginably offensive. Over cooked, tough, flavorless prime rib. BURNT mac and cheese, mashed potatoes clearly from a box.
I would never return here for any reason.
The owners should pack it up and try something new.

Absolute failure

Only giving it 1 star because I can not give it 0. Do not book SunCliff on the Lake for rooms or events!!! I have worked for an Event Planning Company for 4 years and I have NEVER seen anything like this. The staff is so unprofessional and disorganized. When we first arrived for our bride, the place had dust everywhere as soon as we walked in. The staff had no idea where anything was or where it had to go. Our bride paid $15,000 for this wedding and rented out all the rooms just to find out the rooms had no A/C. The bridal party had to decorate the whole venue because the staff didn’t do this. Not to mention they told the bride and her guests they would search her room for alcohol as it was not allowed in HER RENTED ROOMS. The appetizers were not ready for the bridal party after their photo shoot making their entrances to the reception late. The coordinator/“owner” Ivonne was terribly rude she was rushing the bride and the wedding the entire time. She went to the bride complaining that they need to hurry up, ON HER WEDDING DAY!!! She also was screaming at our bride, and got into an argument with the DJ trying to rush the wedding because “they have never had a wedding start late.” Also, the tent where the weddings are is very dirty, tables were dirty when we came in, floor was never swept, tent itself was dirty and MASSIVE spiders everywhere on the sides. Not to mention they left the mansion open for dinner and even had a band while the bridal party was on the patio for appetizers. The staff was smoking outside of the tent the whole time and the garage smelled like marijuana. The buffet was filled slowly even though people were called for seconds. The whole place is just an absolute train wreck and the staff is very very unprofessional and unpleasant. Ivonne stopped the entire wedding and threatened to call the police over the music and the party not leaving even though it was contracted until 11pm. She swore at the me and when I asked her to pull out the contract and then proceeded to call me a “wise ass” when I confronted her about rushing the brides timeline. She threatened to have the bride, groom, and vendors removed at the wedding causing the whole wedding to take a pause so she could argue with the vendors. Ivonne’s attitude and respect for her guests is absolutely terrible and I have never seen something to unprofessional. The mansion has so much potential with the beautiful view on the lake but don’t let that fool you. Use your money somewhere else!!! So sorry for the bride and groom who couldn’t enjoy their special night due to the awful “coordinator.”

A word of caution on the Suncliff: We booked this location for a stay following a wedding during the pandemic. Sadly, due to both local restrictions and those of guests from abroad, this event was unable to be held. The Suncliff (Brenda) ultimately witheld the full amount (almost $1k) of deposit- in exchange for no services rendered.

The pandemic is frustrating for all of us, especially small business owners. However, the Suncliff was the only vendor we dealt with among many who explicitly took that frustration out on us in poor taste, to their advantage. Duplicitously, they made no effort for partial refund as initially indicated from rebooking, which they had 3 months to consider in advance. I would strongly advise reconsidering your support of such businesses.
