I cannot recommend this place enough! If you need minor alternations, major alternations, literally anything at all that requires changing your dress - Tara can handle it with ease. Tara is AMAZING in both her skills and personality. She listens to your concerns/questions with patience and is just the right amount of helpful without pushing you into decisions. For example - she gives you all the info you need / things to consider, will do quick mock-ups on the spot so that you can see her suggestions, will take pictures on a phone for you which I find helpful in comparing options, etc! And she goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable throughout the process; it was like talking with an old friend who just so happened to also be an expert tailor. I am someone who has a hard time making decisions on the spot but I did so with ease at Sugarcane! I did my original bridal alternations at a different place (the place I bought my dress), which was an incredibly stressful environment and I ended up being really disappointed in the fit of my dress at the end. The top fit very strange and felt like it was going to fall off. They just told me to put some double sided tape on it (??). That's when I found Sugarcane Studios. Tara knew exactly what to do to fix the issues and I finally feel comfortable and ready to get married in my dress! Bonus - they are extremely upfront about the costs of alterations. They have a lists of prices that they go through with you after your first appt so that you know exactly what to expect. I wish I did my research before my first alternations process and went to Sugarcane from the beginning. Don't make my mistake!! She's also making a custom veil for me which will include some left over lace from my alterations process. I found their veils to be reasonably priced and they will literally cut them however you want! 11/10 GO SEE TARA

Side note: they are fairly busy (because they are so amazing) so definitely try to get in early!

I moved to Asheville in January and thought I was going to have to scramble to find someone to alter my dress for my wedding in May. Sugarcane Studios was the first vendor I called, and I'm so glad I did, because they were able to accommodate my schedule and did a fantastic job with alterations. Emily and Tara were both very professional during my appointments with them and they were always upfront about pricing which I appreciated. I also liked that we had 3 appointments so that some minor tweaks could be made after the initial alterations. I could not have been happier with the final result!

Tara and her team at Sugarcane Studios did an absolutely amazing job altering my wedding gown! My dress was a ballgown will intricate lace and multiple layers. The skirt of my dress needed to be hemmed, the shoulder straps needed to be shortened, the bust needed to be taken in, and we needed to add a bustle. Tara and her team took care of everything perfectly, and I received so many compliments on my beautiful gown on my wedding day! My guests and I loved visiting the studio for my fittings, and Tara was very detail-oriented, making sure everything fit just right. She took the time to teach us how to bustle the dress and recommended that we take a video (which ended up being super helpful for the day of the wedding!). Scheduling was super easy, and they were even able to accommodate a last minute switch in appointment times for one fitting due to inclement weather.

Tara is truly incredible at what she does! I got my wedding dress altered with her and not only is she so talented and skilled but is also friendly, professional, and organized. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, thank you Tara!

I chose to have my wedding dress made because I don’t have the most average/common body shape. I’m what you may call midsize, with some junk in the trunk. I grew up in South Florida with girls who had nose jobs for their 16th birthday, where perfection and beauty was above all else. All this to say it left me with a very damaged view of myself. I didn’t want to have to pour myself into a dress that had a size on it, forcing my body into a dress that didn’t fit me perfectly. For those of us who have lived with an eating disorder or body dysmorphia, wedding dress shopping can be a massively anxiety riddled experience.
Tara and her team not only made me feel good about myself, but excited to see myself in the mirror. My dress fits me absolutely perfectly and is everything that I wanted it to be. Tara made it come to life from an idea, and made me feel like a queen.
Support small businesses, and do something nice for yourself. Have your dress made to fit you, don’t make yourself fit into your dress.

I cannot recommend Sugarcane enough! I brought my wedding dress here to be altered and the work was second to none. Tara and her team had to alter the shoulders, back, hem and bust - on each of these removing and moving around appliques and lace and the work was so well done that you can't tell that anything had been done. My dress fit perfectly and I was so comfortable and confident in it, which made my wedding day that much more fun. Not only is their work the best, but everyone who works there is just lovely - so nice, funny, and knowledgeable - that going in for fittings was a lot of fun within itself.

I was under the wire to find a wedding dress for my small, intimate wedding. A friend of mine who had gotten married in 1983 offered to give me her gown and said I could alter it in anyway that I liked. The gown had beautiful neckline and sleeves details but the rest of it needed a complete overhaul… Not to mention, but it did not even zip on me.

Tara and her team made that gown perfect! The fit is incredible- the styling is spot on 2021 and they even soaked and brightened the dress to get it back to its original glory.

It’s going to be hard not to use them for everything now!!
