I cannot recommend this place enough! If you need minor alternations, major alternations, literally anything at all that requires changing your dress - Tara can handle it with ease. Tara is AMAZING in both her skills and personality. She listens to your concerns/questions with patience and is just the right amount of helpful without pushing you into decisions. For example - she gives you all the info you need / things to consider, will do quick mock-ups on the spot so that you can see her suggestions, will take pictures on a phone for you which I find helpful in comparing options, etc! And she goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable throughout the process; it was like talking with an old friend who just so happened to also be an expert tailor. I am someone who has a hard time making decisions on the spot but I did so with ease at Sugarcane! I did my original bridal alternations at a different place (the place I bought my dress), which was an incredibly stressful environment and I ended up being really disappointed in the fit of my dress at the end. The top fit very strange and felt like it was going to fall off. They just told me to put some double sided tape on it (??). That's when I found Sugarcane Studios. Tara knew exactly what to do to fix the issues and I finally feel comfortable and ready to get married in my dress! Bonus - they are extremely upfront about the costs of alterations. They have a lists of prices that they go through with you after your first appt so that you know exactly what to expect. I wish I did my research before my first alternations process and went to Sugarcane from the beginning. Don't make my mistake!! She's also making a custom veil for me which will include some left over lace from my alterations process. I found their veils to be reasonably priced and they will literally cut them however you want! 11/10 GO SEE TARA
Side note: they are fairly busy (because they are so amazing) so definitely try to get in early!

I moved to Asheville in January and thought I was going to have to scramble to find someone to alter my dress for my wedding in May. Sugarcane Studios was the first vendor I called, and I'm so glad I did, because they were able to accommodate my schedule and did a fantastic job with alterations. Emily and Tara were both very professional during my appointments with them and they were always upfront about pricing which I appreciated. I also liked that we had 3 appointments so that some minor tweaks could be made after the initial alterations. I could not have been happier with the final result!

Excellent Wedding Gown Alterations!
Tara and her team at Sugarcane Studios did an absolutely amazing job altering my wedding gown! My dress was a ballgown will intricate lace and multiple layers. The skirt of my dress needed to be hemmed, the shoulder straps needed to be shortened, the bust needed to be taken in, and we needed to add a bustle. Tara and her team took care of everything perfectly, and I received so many compliments on my beautiful gown on my wedding day! My guests and I loved visiting the studio for my fittings, and Tara was very detail-oriented, making sure everything fit just right. She took the time to teach us how to bustle the dress and recommended that we take a video (which ended up being super helpful for the day of the wedding!). Scheduling was super easy, and they were even able to accommodate a last minute switch in appointment times for one fitting due to inclement weather.

Best decision everrrr
I chose to have my wedding dress made because I don’t have the most average/common body shape. I’m what you may call midsize, with some junk in the trunk. I grew up in South Florida with girls who had nose jobs for their 16th birthday, where perfection and beauty was above all else. All this to say it left me with a very damaged view of myself. I didn’t want to have to pour myself into a dress that had a size on it, forcing my body into a dress that didn’t fit me perfectly. For those of us who have lived with an eating disorder or body dysmorphia, wedding dress shopping can be a massively anxiety riddled experience.
Tara and her team not only made me feel good about myself, but excited to see myself in the mirror. My dress fits me absolutely perfectly and is everything that I wanted it to be. Tara made it come to life from an idea, and made me feel like a queen.
Support small businesses, and do something nice for yourself. Have your dress made to fit you, don’t make yourself fit into your dress.

I cannot recommend Sugarcane enough! I brought my wedding dress here to be altered and the work was second to none. Tara and her team had to alter the shoulders, back, hem and bust - on each of these removing and moving around appliques and lace and the work was so well done that you can't tell that anything had been done. My dress fit perfectly and I was so comfortable and confident in it, which made my wedding day that much more fun. Not only is their work the best, but everyone who works there is just lovely - so nice, funny, and knowledgeable - that going in for fittings was a lot of fun within itself.

80s Wedding Gown Makeover
I was under the wire to find a wedding dress for my small, intimate wedding. A friend of mine who had gotten married in 1983 offered to give me her gown and said I could alter it in anyway that I liked. The gown had beautiful neckline and sleeves details but the rest of it needed a complete overhaul… Not to mention, but it did not even zip on me.
Tara and her team made that gown perfect! The fit is incredible- the styling is spot on 2021 and they even soaked and brightened the dress to get it back to its original glory.
It’s going to be hard not to use them for everything now!!

Tara and her team are wonderful! They really care about you when you come through the door. Tara is SO good at what she does and will make sure that everything is perfect. She went above and beyond for me! I brought some people with me to what was supposed to be my final fitting. We made significant changes and she could see that my voice was getting lost and that I was getting frustrated with the whole situation. She went out and found some items that she thought might help and even called me before they made any changes to my dress to make sure that my voice was heard without anyone else speaking over me. I will bring all of my future alterations to her in the future.

Asheville Brides!
I had originally purchased my dress from Michigan, and was struggling to find a seamstress in the Asheville area that I almost considered driving to Charlotte or Greenville for alterations. Well I’m glad I looked on wedding wire, because Sugar Cane Studios came up! Tara is a fairy godmother. I expressed my concerns about the alterations taking away the design of the dress, I got it back and you couldn’t tell the difference! I could say more but, if you are an Asheville bride and need alterations, get them done at Sugar Cane! And I’m a very critical person. I will be coming to Tara for all my future alterations!

My dress was delayed getting to me due to covid, So I got it with only 4 months until my wedding, Tara said no problem we've got you. She cut inches off the front, off the torso, made it fir perfect! It looks like it was made for me now! And its all lace on the front and you cannot tell where she cut it! It was pieced together so perfect! I drove an hour to get to her every time and it was worth it!

Tara and her team went above and beyond to make my dream dress a reality! When I found my dress, my size wasn't going to be available until after my wedding date. After having tried on 20 dresses, I knew that one was the one, so I bought the dress off the rack that was 2 sizes too big. After searching for a seamstress who could handle the task of taking a very detailed dress down 2 sizes, I came across Sugarcane Studios. The boutique I purchased my dress at told me I'd just need to get the straps shortened, the sides taken in, and the bottom hemmed. I'm so glad I didn't settle for just that! Tara of course did all of that, but she also custom hemmed my dress to preserve the beautiful lines created by the lace. She also resized the arm holes 2 different times to be sure my dress was as comfortable as possible. She really want above and beyond with every detail and my dress is now so comfortable and truly fits as if it was made for me, because it was! I would highly recommend Sugarcane Studios to anyone!

Buying my wedding dress was hectic and honestly not the most fun though I found the right dress in the end. The alterations process with Sugarcane Studios made up for it. It was a calm, personal and smooth process from start to finish. Tara was easy to work with, had great suggestions, and the dress out just as I had hoped. Worth it winner!
Where to begin? During my wedding planning, I was the victim of dress regret & had previously chosen a general alterations person. BIG mistake. I hated my first dress after the alterations and it even altered the silhouette. Three months before the wedding I ended up purchasing a whole new gown, but was fearful about alterations.
But then I met my fairy godmother of alterations: Tara. She REALLY knows what she's doing. I had 4 appointments total. The last appointment was to tweak some small things. Tara thought of things for the gown I didn't even know about. I thought it fit okay before, but it felt MADE FOR ME by the time she was done. I wish I had taken more specific before and after photos. She added additional boning, cups, an inner strap, created an intricate and beautiful bustle, and fixed the length.
I had a long A Line Lace/Tulle gown. The lace appliques went down to the floor, but my dress was at least a foot too long. Tara was able to cut around the lace and then create a new seam so that it looked like the gown was made for my height!
Tara was kind and knowledgeable. She helped explain why she would do certain things and answered any questions or doubts we had. She assured me she would do whatever it took to make it perfect.
One thing that really set Tara apart was the time allotted per appointment. Tara wanted me to sit and stand and dance and walk. She taught me how the dress will move and stretch out and wanted to see how I felt after being in it for 45min-1 hr. I've never heard of anyone taking the time for that! But let me tell you, it made all the difference. There was no pulling or tugging at it during the 8 hours it was worn. The only thing I did was tighten the inner strap halfway through the night (which is why she put it in there!). She thought of it all.
This gown was made for me and my body thanks to the ladies of Sugarcane! No shapewear needed! Tara was not cheap by any means, but she is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY! I went from hysterically crying at night, terrified I would hate my gown, to hopping up and down because I couldn't WAIT to put it back on! Tara gave me the confidence that my gown was PERFECT. Don't even consider going to anyone else.

Tara and team made alterations to my daughter's wedding gown and sewed a custom designed jacket for my MOB dress. From our first visit, Tara was incredibly helpful with her suggestions and it was very evident that she knew exactly what needed to be done. Amazing Job!
Tara was such a huge help! I purchased my dress and then my wedding was postponed due to Covid-19 so by the time we had rescheduled my wedding I didn't like my dress anymore but couldn't afford to get a different one. I looked up dresses similar to mine to get ideas on how I could change it to love it again and Tara did a great job bringing my ideas to life!!! Timing was great and it was done in a reasonable amount of time!

Better than I could have hoped!
Tara and her team created the perfect custom-made wedding dress for me. When I first got engaged 4 years ago, my mom and I picked out a wedding dress together. It was simple but meaningful, so when I decided I wanted something a little more exciting for my wedding, Tara helped me transform the dress my mom and I picked out into the dress of my dreams. She totally designed and created the dress but used the fabric from the original, as well as other beautiful fabrics we picked out together. The whole process was exciting and personalized. I loved seeing my dress come into being, and received SO MANY compliments when I finally got to wear it! Tara was super accommodating and really listened and tried to turn my ideas into reality. The dress is beautiful, unique and more than I hoped for. I would definitely recommend Sugarcane to anyone looking to make their wedding day (or any day) special.

I cannot say enough good things about Tara and her team at Sugarcane Studios! Tara redesigned my aunt's wedding dress to create a wedding dress that is perfect for me. From the first time my mom and I entered her studio, she was amazing. We were so excited about her vision for my dress, and she also listened 100% to my mom and my ideas. Ultimately, she transformed my aunt's long sleeve, babydoll style dress into a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline. I was nervous to have a vintage dress redesigned, but now I couldn't imagine wearing anything else on my wedding day! I absolutely love the way my dress turned out. I am so thankful that we found Sugarcane Studios, and a seamstress as talented, professional and caring as Tara. I would wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone looking for wedding alterations or custom clothing.

My dress fits like a glove!
Tara and her team are a dream to work with. Their studio is so welcoming and cozy. My dress couldn’t have fit better after my final fitting. I was kept updated through email about appointments. Homemade masks were available at the door incase you forgot to bring yours. Tara even made my dog a homemade bow-tie after expressing to her I was on the hunt for one to match my husband’s suit. I’d recommend Sugarcane Studios again and again.

I want to start off by saying I love Tara! She is warm, friendly and confident. She knows her shit! It can be really intimidating walking into a seamstress or bridal shop but I felt welcomed and the vibe was down to earth! I had alterations for my wedding dress done at Sugarcane Sewing Studio and I could not be happier. I bought my wedding dress online without trying it on, and needless to say it did not fit me ANYWHERE! The top was so big that it wouldn't even stay up and the waist was so small l couldn't get it zipped. It was my dream dress though and I was not willing buy another one, so I decided to make an appointment with Tara. She was beyond amazing, not only did she do a fantastic job with the alterations, she never made me feel like an idiot for buying a dress online that was too small. I never imagined this dress would fit me the way it did after having it altered. She lowered the back, took in the sleeves and sides, hemmed the bottom, and I'm sure many other things that I have forgotten. The dress fit me perfectly! I felt like a princess on my wedding day! I cannot recommend Sugarcane Sewing Studios enough!

AMAZING. Tara took away every concern I had immediately. She is so talented at what she does and so pleasant to work with. She is professional and quick to respond. My dress was the most extravagant thing I’ve ever splurged on for myself and I was so nervous about the process to alter it to my body. I did an initial consult with Tara and was blown away by how she could paint the perfect picture for me on her plans. My dress could not have fit any better in every way the day of my wedding. Superhuman Seamstress
I am so glad I went with my bridal salon’s recommendation to use Tara for alterations, despite her being two hours outside of where I live. Her expertise was well worth the commute for each appointment! I had sleeves added and they were not only gorgeous, but looked as though they had always been a part of the gown, they were so seamless.
She also helped my sister with correcting some issues her bridal salon’s seamstress had made with our mother’s veil that she wore for her wedding (we got married six weeks apart from each other), and even created a new modesty panel for her on the fly and arranged for it to be ready in time for her wedding after her dissatisfaction with the one that came with the dress came up just a week prior at one of my last fittings, making her a complete superhuman lifesaver.
Beyond all that she was incredibly kind, funny, and patient with me throughout the process, and quick to offer input and advice when I had any questions. Simply put you won’t find a better seamstress anywhere else!

Sugarcane Studios provided the best possible experience for getting my wedding dress altered. I was told how amazing the studio was by a friend that had gotten her dress altered there. I felt really heard when I asked for some changes beyond just fit and everyone at the studio was so kind and accommodating. During my final fitting, I actually got blood on my dress and very quickly I was aided in getting the stain out and reassured that it was going to come out. They were able to get the stain out completely and we had a good laugh about it. Everyone at the studio genuinely cared and was excited for me. My dress is perfect now because of them and I truly cannot thank them enough. If you're anywhere close to Asheville, use Sugarcane Studios!

Bustling Dress
Two days before my wedding we realized that my bustle in my wedding dress was not going to hold and would fall out as soon as I started dancing. Being from out of town we were panicked that no one would be able to fix it. Sugarcane sewing studios took my dress RIGHT away and had it ready within a day. Tara did an amazing job with my wedding dress alterations! I had lost weight and was down two dress sizes after already purchasing my dress several months earlier. Due to the intricacies of the lace and the form-fitting style, I was so worried about how the dress would look after it was sized down. By my first fitting with Tara, however, my mind was totally put at ease. She had my dress fitting perfectly without a trace of the work that had been done in no time! I cannot recommend Tara enough! She came highly referred to me by my cousin, who also used her services. Both my cousin and myself bought our dresses from Bhldn and Tara and her team worked wonders on my dress. While my dress had an amazing train, she came up with a creative solution to bustle up the train for the reception. Tara addressed my every concern, including fitting the shoulder straps and bust wonderfully and helping me get fitted with the correct undergarments and matching that to the silhouette of my dress. She made me feel so comfortable and confident in the dress I picked out! I traveled from Winston-Salem to Asheville three times and it was well worth the travel to work with Tara! Absolutely wonderful!
I had my dress taken in and fitted, and they made sure that everything sat perfectly in place. They were very friendly as well, and made sure you felt as if you were a one of a kind bride to be.

Sugarcane Studios is hands down the best alterations business I have ever used. Tara listened to everything I wanted for my wedding dress and made it happen without overcharging me. She put so much work into my dress! You get your pricing up front so it allows you to budget without any hidden or last minute fees being added on. HIGHLY recommend!

Tara and her amazing staff at Sugarcane did an outstanding job with altering and fitting my wedding dress to perfection. They are literal magicians who made a massive dress fit my body comfortably and beautifully. I felt at ease and at home communicating with Tara about the stress. She welcomed my sister into an appointment and was so open about taking all our feedback. Tara made suggestions I did not even think were possible for this dress. Ladies! There is a reason why Tara and her studio has received so many amazing reviews - she is the real deal! I traveled from Charlotte to Asheville for my three fittings because I wanted the best. My dress has the handkerchief skirt so it isn't common and she always made sure to not change the style of the dress during the alterations process. She makes you feel very comfortable during the appointments and I truly trusted her 1000%

I am in love with the way my dress fit on my wedding day! My dress had so many layers and was so big when I first brought it to Sugarcane Studios. She paid attention to every detail, and when it was finished, it looked like it had been custom designed to fit me!

Tara was so great to work with! My wedding dress start about 6 sizes too big, but looked absolutely beautiful and fit perfectly on my wedding day! She also helped revamp my husband's grandma's wedding dress so I could wear it for our rehearsal dinner! It was stunning and so fun! She was patient and made great style recommendations with every step. I absolutely loved working with her and can't wait to do for future clothing!

Tara and her entire team are incredible, lovely, welcoming, TALENTED, warm, and accommodating. I'm singing their praises all over town. I will absolutely recommend them to anyone and everyone. Tara had to overhaul my entire wedding dress...she took a piece of art and made it something even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Custom just for me. I've never felt so comfortable and lovely in a piece of clothing :) She also created two custom pieces for me that blew my mind...so beautiful.

Tara is professional, easy to work with and has a ton of experience across the board. I bought my dress in another city and needed it here as the time got closer. I brought it to her about 2 months out and had 2 easy great fittings for length, straps, bustle, other minor alterations. She also ended up altering my fiancé's suit since he waited until the last minute. He was super happy as well! Timely, easy to work with, and great at what she does..also affordable!

Wedding dress alterations
I was nervous about getting my dress altered, it was about 4 sizes too big, I bought it at a sample sale. It also was needed around six inches cut off the bottom and I had intricate lace bottom. Tara was very confident over email and in person which was a stress reliever. She talks through options with you andcreally pin points on what you want. My dress turned out perfect and fits like a glove. She is also reasonably priced for the amount of work.

I am so blown away with the experience I had with Tara at Sugarcane studios. Tara is absolutely amazing and can completely transform your wedding dress into the vision you have. She is extremely talented, accommodating, very easy to talk too, and reasonably priced. I never once had any doubt or worry about my dress while in her hands.
