About

At Spoon&Sailor Letterpress, we like to party like it’s 1899. This means that every single item that makes its way out the studio door is 100% handcrafted; all ink colors are custom mixed; each card that you receive is manually cut down to size on a turn of the century guillotine cutter; every one of your letterpress printed pieces has been hand-fed into a century old Chandler & Price platen press — often several times at that.

Spoon&Sailor specializes in custom printing projects from wedding suites, invitations and personal stationery, to limited edition artists’ prints and special projects. We delight in coming up with unique and memorable solutions for your personalized paper goods and are more than happy to handle all of the design work in-house or to collaborate with other artists and designers, ensuring that the detailed craft of our presswork brings your vision to fruition.

Elana Joy Wetzner is the captain of Spoon&Sailor. An award winning artist and designer from the great Northeast, Elana has been romantically involved with both words and letters for several decades and has been running the presses in dresses since 2003. True to her scholarly New England roots, she has collected both a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design as well as an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (with a Certificate in Collegiate Art instruction from Brown University to boot). In her less inky time, she is a typography, design and photography professor at several local colleges and universities. Her print work has been exhibited in California, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and France. She rides a red bicycle and would very much like a dog.

Creativity and originality are never in short supply when working with Spoon & Sailor. We hired Elana to create our "Save the Dates" and wedding invitations. We chose Elana because of the high quality of her product and because we love to support local artists. She blew us away. Elana is a true professional who not only has amazing ideas, but is also a great listener who can incorporate your vision and give you exactly what you're looking for. We highly recommend Elana for any project that needs a custom touch. Rest assured she'll take pride in the work.

Elana is a pleasure to work with. She’s flexible, creative and incredibly talented. She was able to turn a long list of ideas into a beautiful wedding suite. A truly gifted creative professional, Elana’s customer service skills compliment her aesthetic gifts.

After sending our invitations out the phones began to ring. My family and I received dozens of calls from family and friends, women and men alike, exclaiming about how beautifully made, originally designed and perfectly presented the invitations were. Invitations set the tone for the wedding celebration to come, I can truly say Elana was able to capture the spirit of our wedding as we had described it to her. A true testament to the overwhelming appeal of our suite.

The framed invitation suite now hangs in my home, highlighting a joyous occasion, but also displaying a piece of art. Elana now has a permanent place in our home and hearts!

Elana is a true professional and I cannot say enough good things about her. We were looking for a unique Save the Date card and are thrilled that we found Elana at Spoon & Silver. She is a wonderful listener and designed a card that was exactly what we were envisioning. She was gracious enough to spend time with me at her studio demonstrating how she creates the beautiful letterpress cards she designs. She created the cards and had them delivered in record time. You will be fortunate to work with her on your printing projects!

I was willing to spend a little more on letterpress (and it is a little more, though very worth it when you consider the artistry and time) but all I really knew was that I wanted letterpress and I wanted vaguely 1930s-inspired design. Somehow, Elana managed to create invitations that were EXACTLY what I wanted, from vague guidelines like "sort of Art Deco but not too Edward Gorey." She is unbelievably talented, patient, and flexible, and was so great about working and reworking multiple ideas and designs until it was exactly right. (She also invited us to visit her studio, where she demonstrated her press and even let my fiance try it out.)

As a very nervous bride, she made me feel completely understood and ensured that I got precisely the invitations I envisioned. Perhaps most importantly, she accommodated my panic attacks about deadlines, timing, changing my mind--and handled all with grace and good humor. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Spoon and Sailor Letterpress designed and printed my wedding invitations. Elana was excellent at replying to e-mails, working with my husband and I with design ideas and rushing our order!

Once we saw the invitations, we were extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of all pieces of our order. It was easy to tell that each piece was done with skill and care.

We had many compliments on the beautiful map that was on our direction card along with the intricate, well crafted details of our invitations.

Spoon and Sailor comes highly recommended from me for any of your printing needs!

Elana was amazing with her vision and ability to guide me in the right direction as far as style. She was able to hone in on the important aspects of the many examples we provided and find the perfect match to us. We have had so many compliments on our save the dates and invitations, and we of course love them!

I highly recommend Spoon & Sailor for their patience with erratic brides and high quality of work!

Elana designed and printed a custom wedding suite for us, and we could not be happier with the final product--or with the process!

I came to Elana with a few concepts but no idea of how to pull them all together into one integrated suite. Elana was fabulous. She took the time to understand the look and feel that we wanted and then went from there. From color and paper selection to her gorgeous custom design work and typography, the five pieces she created for us were unique yet tied in with each other. The end result was exactly what we wanted--something traditional but interesting and completely personalized. We've received compliments from so many people, all of whom have told us that the invitations are "so you!"

Working with Elana was also a pleasure. She was responsive, creative and tasteful, detail-oriented, and needed very little guidance. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone who, like me, wants a completely customized invitations but doesn't quite know where to start. You won't be disappointed!

Lucky brides will receive v.i.p. treatment from Elana at Spoon and Sailor letterpress. She is also fun to work with to boot. She worries about imperceptible details to us regular folk which ensures you will have a final result which will delight all your guests. The invites I received were a perfect color-match, perfectly trimmed and had a great impression from the press.
I would work with her again in a second.
