We had our rehearsal dinner at the Seven Gables Inn & it was perfect. The night started off with a cocktail hour in their beautiful courtyard that was decorated with white lights. Then we had dinner inside a cozy room that felt like we were all in a warm & comfortable house. The food was absolutely delicious as well. We couldn't have picked a better place!

My husband and I were thrilled when we stumbled upon this venue. We wanted a unique space for our intimate wedding that was outdoors but also offered an indoor option in case of bad weather (it is St. Louis, after all!) Despite growing up in St. Louis, I had never heard of Seven Gables Inn, but that just added to its charm. So many St. Louis venues are used over and over again by brides, so Seven Gables Inn really felt like our own special spot. The event coordinator, Stacey Wallace, was so helpful throughout the planning process and willingly accommodated requests that I had to personalize the space even further.

We had hoped to use the outdoor courtyard for our ceremony, the indoor Gables rooms for our cocktail hour (so the courtyard could be flipped for dinner), and the courtyard for the dinner and reception. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate with us. It started to rain just before our ceremony, so Stacey and her crew quickly rushed to ensure our guests' comfort and saved the fans that were on each of the chairs. When the rain let up, they immediately went to work drying off chairs and replacing fans--ensuring that our ceremony could still take place outside. We ended up moving the cocktail hour into the pub and dinner into the Gables rooms, just in case the rain returned. It was a great move, as it was cooler inside, and everyone loved the historic decor inside.

We had initially planned on a wedding for about 70 people, but we ended up having just under 50 guests. While the indoor spaces could have accommodated a few more people, I was glad that we had the amount of people that we did. People were still able to move about, but the space felt very cozy.

The food was great! We decided to offer three options to our guests for a plated dinner. Stacey was great about accommodating our special requests, and guests really couldn't get enough. Both the taste and presentation were phenomenal. Prices for food and liquor were both very reasonable.

This is a challenging review for me, admittedly. We chose Seven Gables Inn for accommodations for our out-of-town guests, as well as for our wedding reception. More or less, we took over the whole inn for the weekend -- our reception spilled across the entire first floor from the courtyard to Gables I/II to the pub/restaurant space.

We chose Seven Gables almost exclusively for the courtyard, and were not disappointed. We had gorgeous weather and the photos are absolutely stunning -- all of our guests were delighted by the atmosphere, and loved a reception that felt more like a house party. They also loved the convenience of being able to spend the night at the reception site (for out of town guests).

Though the wedding day was lovely, the entire experience was really a bit of a roller coaster. Stacey operates as both GM and Sales Manager, and her plate seems to be too full. We had a hard time getting email responses in a timely fashion, and occasionally details we'd requested were lost in communication streams.

We also were disappointed by the food -- we had an amazing tasting with a new chef a few months out, and the food on the wedding day was quite different. My suspicion is that they either acquired a new chef, or he was unable to be there that day for some reason, but we were not informed of any changes. There was also an appetizer during cocktail hour that we definitely didn't request and had never seen before.

All of this to say, our guests continue to rave about the reception, and nobody knew any differently with the food mix-up except for my husband and me. If you care a lot about a fun, intimate atmosphere and are less concerned with other details, this might be a great option for you. But I would strongly encourage possible SGI event customers to get very detailed documentation for their event, down to every last appetizer, and make sure you confirm everything. Booking during less busy seasons might prove to be less of a headache.
