About

As seen in the New York Times’ Style Section in March 2021...

You are the Occasion! - You've known each other for several months or several years, and you've withstood your first few relationship challenges. Now you're looking at options for taking your next step together. Let the Reverend Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Schlorff bless your relationship by presiding at your ceremony.

Trained and Ordained - With over 22 years of professional ministerial experience, Daniel is ready for any scenario. He holds dual standing as a Baptist pastor (Alliance of Baptists, Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists, and Bautistas por la Paz) and the American Protestant Union. As a denominationally ordained minister, Daniel is authorized to perform wedding ceremonies in all 50 states and all U.S. territories. Unlike a town justice of the peace or an officiant with an online ordination, Daniel attended seminary, attaining a master’s degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, a master’s degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Hartford Seminary, and received the Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, preparing him to handle any eventuality with grace, humor, and style. He has led hundreds of services in a variety of settings—specializing in interfaith, Protestant, and spiritual non-religious services. Additionally, he pastors a church in Fairfield County, CT and ministers as a hospice chaplain.

Your Vision, Implemented - None of Daniel's ceremonies are identical. Each ceremony is painstakingly crafted according to the couple's stated interests, preferences, and backstory. The creative process is collaborative, and the services bring both laughter and tears.

Love is Love - Daniel presides over wedding ceremonies for all consenting adult partners who wish to join as spouses, regardless of their creed or identity: Christian, interfaith, humanist, secular, spiritual non-religious, same-sex couples, gender non-conforming, gender non-binary... And as an adjunct professor of world religions, Daniel considers it a treat to learn about different cultures and traditions, bringing them into focus wherever the couple chooses to hold their ceremony.

Any Location - Locations have ranged from a park in Missouri to Yale University's historic Battell Chapel, from the couple's Chicago congregation to the Union League, and from the oceanfront in Greenwich to a heated tent during the quarantine.

Your Style, Reflected - Liturgical vestments are not required for a ceremony to be a real ceremony. Daniel has no persona to maintain. He will wear a chicken suit if that fits into some purpose. If you're wearing a wedding gown and tux, Daniel will dress appropriately. Linen shorts? Daniel will join the party. Your personal style will be reflected through every aspect of the ceremony, down to the last fiber.

Diverse Worldviews - Daniel specializes in negotiating diverse (if not divergent!) worldviews and political and religious perspectives within a single family. Regardless of past conflict or ”touchy subjects,” Daniel will work with couples to craft a meaningful and polished ceremony that pulls the families together.

Services Included - Initial consultation, contract signing, service planning, optional premarital counseling, ongoing phone/email conversations, the actual ceremony, the signing of the state license, and mailing the state license are all included in the honorarium. Some optional add-ons may include running a 20-minute wedding rehearsal (in conjunction with the wedding planner), prayer at the rehearsal dinner, attendance at reception, prayer at reception, and significant follow-up after your big day.

A dream come true

I'm pretty attached to the pastor of my church, but we could not get married in the church due to Chad being Lutheran when I'm Catholic. Pastor Dan gave us the very traditional wedding we were looking for, along with a few creative twists, and since he knew our pastors, got them both involved in a ritual blessing together at the reception, which he orchestrated. Pastor Dan definitely understood our goals and had no ego involved with sharing the ritual blessing with our clergy. Everyone got what they wanted and then some. It was my dream for all this to happen, but I just didn't know how it would work. We definitely recommend Pastor Dan for anyone who has a dream that they don't think can be reached. He'll make it happen in some way.

Our lovely wedding

Dan accommodated our schedules within weeks of my request, and was so flexible with our timing. But best of all our ceremony was exactly as we wanted it: intimate, personalized and very special. I would recommend Dan's services to anyone.

Beautiful!

Reverend Schlorff was the best addition to our wedding. He made our union feel special, unique to our liking, and just overall, ours. He made us realize what kind of wedding ceremony we wanted when we hadn't a clue ourselves, with enthusiasm and patience. He worked with us over time leading up to our big day, and when the wedding came, it was a beautiful ceremony. Both of us were touched to hear what he learned from us individually, as he added them to the ceremony. It's was so beautiful!

The best choice!

My wife and I decided to hire Daniel to be our wedding officient, and we are very pleased with our choice! Daniel met with us via zoom to go over all the details and to of course learn more about us as a couple. He also sent us questionnaires to fill out to go into detail about certain aspects of our relationship. He brilliantly interweved the stories we shared with him together and independently during the ceremony. Daniel showed up early to get a feel of the venue, which was much appreciated by my wife since the weather was touch and go and we did not know where exactly the ceremony would be held. Since Daniel was early, he was able to plan for both options. His words during the ceremony were beautiful and caused the guests to both laugh and cry (happy tears). We are so happy with his services and thank him so much for his hard work in making our day perfect (which it was)!

Wonderful officiant

Daniel was so helpful and kind through the processes of helping us to plan our wedding ceremony. We wanted to combine elements from my fiancé’s culture (Gujarati ) as well as mine (American) and Daniel was the perfect person to help us do so. He put so much time and effort into understanding the Gujarati culture and made sure everyone at the ceremony felt comfortable and understood the significance behind all the different parts of the ceremony. He was a pleasure to work with. I would recommend him, especially to couples who have a different approach to the the ceremony or our trying to combine cultures/religions, etc as he does such a great job respecting different practices and making everyone comfortable and happy!

Unforgettable Ceremony

My partner and I were seeking an LGBT-friendly officiant for our elopement-style ceremony and could not have been happier with Reverend Doctor Daniel’s services! He personalized the ceremony to fit what we were looking for in terms of tone as well as content. His remarks and tone were very engaging and met our unique need of a ceremony without guests which would be recorded and viewed by family and friends at a later time. He also injected some humor where appropriate which was wonderful. All of that being said, he stood out because he truly cared about making our ceremony special and personalized. We would absolutely recommend Reverend Doctor Daniel for your officiant needs!

Absolutely perfect!

Daniel did an amazing job! He was very excited to work with us on our unique wedding concept. My wife and I met playing Dungeons and Dragons. This was an important detail in our lives and we wanted it to be important in our ceremony. He was very excited when he heard about this and relished the opportunity to do something new and special. The ceremony he designed incorporated elements and verbiage from the games we so love (including magical spells!). Daniel even provided equipment so we could stream our ceremony to our family and friends who could not attend due to the pandemic. He went above and beyond making our ceremony heartfelt and fun. We absolutely recommend him.

Best of the best!!

We didn't really know where to go for our interfaith, inter-racial, same-sex wedding ceremony, but we just kept browsing and found Pastor Dan. It was totally God. Turns out he is not a fake minister but an actual pastor! That was important to me growing up strict Apostolic. And for Kirk, our wedding pastor had to be respectful of his Jewish upbringing. Dan ended up saying part of the service in Hebrew for Kirk's family! We were going to go the cheap route and spend a ton on reception, but we soon realized that the ceremony is the most important part. By removing just one guest (just an acquaintance) from our reception, we were able to budget for the best wedding pastor in the Tri-state area. Dan is amazing! We're so glad we found him!

Wisdom beyond his years

Daniel has such a calm mannerism, not to mention very handsome. Harold and I are both widowed, and he was so respectful of our previous marriages and brought them into the ceremony as a way of honoring our love continuing. Words cannot describe how breathtakingly gorgeous each word was that he selected. His speaking voice is easy to listen to, also! He attended to every detail that was important to us, so I will be recommending him to all the gals I know who need to get married. Thank you, Daniel!
