Originally conceived as a private dream home by renowned San Diego dress designer Amy Strong, construction began in 1909 with architects who lived on-site as they developed their renderings and blueprints. By 1920, that vision had become a masterpiece — a stunning embodiment of the American Craftsman Movement.
Amy personally selected stones from the slopes of Mt. Woodson, and the home was built using eucalyptus, oak, and redwood harvested directly from the property, alongside adobe and brick. No chalk lines were ever used in construction — resulting in no perfect corners and intentionally uneven floors and rooflines that give the castle an irreplaceable sense of character and soul.

With 4-foot-thick walls, a Great Hall with a soaring 16-foot ceiling, four fireplaces, and a working windmill on the property, Mt. Woodson Castle is unlike anything else in Southern California. Its exterior draws from European and Medieval traditions, while the interiors weave together Mesoamerican, Mediterranean, North American, and East Asian influences.

Mt. Woodson Castle offers two distinct outdoor ceremony sites and a breathtaking indoor ceremony hall. Outdoor ceremonies unfold beneath open skies framed by mature trees, sweeping mountain views, and the castle's iconic stone facade.
