The Michigan Union in Ann Arbor, Michigan offers couples a historic and vibrant setting to exchange vows among family and friends. This venue recently reopened after a renovation and features many updated spaces, while maintaining the historical look and feel of our Rogel Ballroom and other event areas. While this building was closed, their chef and catering team were feeding many happy couples at our sister building, the Michigan League - visit the reviews there to see more recent testimonials about the food and service.

Facilities and Capacity

Gather friends and family at one of many spaces available within this venue. The second-floor Rogel ballroom is a classically stunning space that accommodates up to 250 guests. The floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate a fitting space for a magical wedding day. Gaze upward to the expansive ceiling decorated with chandeliers. For a cocktail hour, or a smaller wedding of up to 104, the Pendleton room has the same classic and elegant look for an intimate celebration.

Amazing Venue

We had our wedding cocktail hour and reception at the Union on 8/6/22, and the entire event was a dream. Our cocktail hour took place in the Courtyard, where the glass ceiling and flexible seating provided the perfect ambiance. The reception was held in Rogel Ballroom, and the room looked incredible. The catering staff were attentive and professional, and they even helped us clean up and load cars at the end of the night. The food was delicious, and we appreciated that we were able to attend a tasting earlier in the spring for engaged couples to make sure we chose the right dishes. We planned our event with Lauren Yanakeff, who was incredibly on-the-ball and knowledgable about the planning process. She answered our many questions swiftly, met with us in person, and put us at ease throughout the entire process.

This place was the PERFECT location for our wedding! The ballroom is absolutely beautiful and the staff is incredible. Lindsay was SO helpful throughout the entire process!!! I would highly recommend this place!

I was one of those brides when it came to last minute changes and swaps. Ken Knell at the Union was so great to work with--he made everything I wanted happen. The staff the night of were amazing. They made us a to go box of food, carried everything out to the cars, and took care of us like were family. I'd highly suggest a trip to the Union if you're looking for a great venue for your wedding.

We had our wedding ceremony in the Pendleton Room and the reception in the Rogel Ballroom. Ken Knell and the rest of the staff were so easy to work with. Ken was very responsive to my emails and promptly answered all of our questions. We had a custom Indian menu with a private tasting, and the chef took great notes so our requested suggestions and changes were incorporated into the actual menu. Everyone loved the food at the reception! The staff coordinated with our other vendors so all details were taken care of without worry. We were very happy to have our wedding there!

We had our wedding reception in the Rogel Ballroom of the Union. Ken Knell was our coordinator through the planning process and we had a very easy time working with him to bring the wedding together. Everything went exactly as planned. The food was delicious and definitely lived up to our expectations. The waitstaff was very helpful and efficient. Ken was responsive to my emails and phone calls and made sure I always had my questions answered. He worked with us to create exactly what we wanted. He recommended the florist and the baker to us and both were phenomenal. On the day of the event, Clare (Claire?) was in charge of ensuring everything went smoothly and she was wonderful. She was patient and full of information. They seriously made my wedding day so stress free. It was a relief to know that they had everything under control and my husband and I could just enjoy the day.

I had my ceremony in the Pendleton Room, which was perfect and beautiful! I had my reception in the Grand Ballroom, which was absolutely perfect and had the best feel in terms of 'evening glamour combined with coziness'.

The Michigan Union was amazing in terms of value! The facilities are also gorgeous with an 'early 30's' feel in terms of architecture and woodwork. I was impressed with their customer service, wait staff and all of my guests were blown away by how great everything looked!

The Union was great! I emailed and met with Ken, the planner there, sooooo much and he was always gracious and helpful. We planned everything to the detail, and it was implemented flawlessly. When I got to my reception, everything was set up so much more beautifully than I had imagined! And the staff was amazingly helpful and responded to all my requests and whims throughout the day. It was not cheap, but it was beautiful and terrific fun!

Jane at the Michigan Union helped our dreams come true. She kept track of all the details very carefully even though we were mostly communicating on email or phone (since we're in a different state). She provided very thorough information. The rest of the staff at the union were also very helpful on the day of the wedding, which was a Sunday. Some last minute furniture needed moving and added and everything was taken care of immediately. The food was great. It was also very reasonably priced. They showed great flexibility with the menu, i.e. even though our vegetarian option wasn't vegan they agreed to provide one or two vegan plates for guests who were vegan. The food tasting was great too because we got to sample a lot of food and choose from all the options available instead of a few select things we may like. All in all we recommend this venue.

The Michigan Union is a beautiful venue to have your reception and/or your wedding ceremony. My husband and I could not have been more pleased with the beauty of the building and how everything turned out. Ken Knell, Director of Event Services, was very helpful in making sure that his staff would be in place on the night of our wedding and take care of the details. My only concern with the Union is that we were not aware that Ken would not be there on the night of the wedding and that we were ultimately at the mercy of his staff - whom we did not know or had never met. This made it difficult on the day of the wedding when we had complications and didn't know who to talk with. There were some other communication glitches, but overall it was a beautiful wedding and the small things that we noticed were not noticed by our guests so much! I would recommend the Union to any couple looking for a very elegant venue to get married in! Good Luck!
