Marin Cake Studio is a custom cake studio in downtown San Rafael, designing wedding cakes for couples across Marin County, San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma. Lindsay Holdorf has run the studio since 2016 and designs every cake herself.

VENUES WE KNOW
We have delivered to Deer Park Villa in Fairfax, the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon, the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley, Rancho Nicasio, Geneva Terrace, Viansa Winery in Sonoma, Maple Lawn Estate, Falkirk Cultural Center, The Clubhouse at Peacock Gap and Slide Ranch. Knowing a room matters more than it sounds. It tells us how a cake will photograph in that light, whether the space runs warm by four o'clock, where the load-in is, and how much structure a tiered cake needs to survive the drive.

HOW IT WORKS
This is a design studio rather than a bakery, so there is no catalogue to choose from. Every wedding cake is designed for one couple and one room.

We start with a conversation about the wedding itself — the venue, the season, the palette, what the two of you actually like eating. From there we design, you taste, and nothing is booked until the design and the flavors are settled. Wedding cakes are booked four to six weeks ahead, and three to four months for dates in peak season, May through October. A 50% deposit holds the date. Cakes above our minimum are delivered and set up at the venue by us, not handed to a caterer.

WHAT WE ARE KNOWN FOR
Restraint, mostly. The work draws on architecture and art more than on other cakes, which is why it tends to look considered rather than of-the-moment in a way you will notice in ten years.

And for saying no. If a flavor combination will not hold, or a design looks right on a screen and will not execute in buttercream at an outdoor venue in July, we will tell you and offer something that will. Couples tend to mention that afterwards more than anything else.
