In the past year, Kona Kakes Tropical Cake Bakery has become one of my favorite bakeries in San Diego, CA. My husband and I ordered a mango mousse cake and a couple of miniature strawberry guava cakes for our civil wedding on 09/28/2022 after a word-of-mouth recommendation from a family member. After tasting the cakes, we fell in love with their flavors and knew we had to contract Kona Kakes again to make our 3-tier cake for our church wedding on 09/30/2023.

Janice was amazing to work with. She is genuinely a nice person, always happy to see us throughout the year, and very passionate about the cakes she makes. For the church wedding, she made a 3-tier cake, each layer with our top 3 flavors: strawberry guava, mango mousse, and chocolate macadamia. We specifically asked her to keep the cake's design with the traditional frosting piping seen in their Hawaiian cakes and decorate it with palm leaves and plumerias to match our reception's decorations at the San Diego Natural History Museum. The 3-tier cake tasted and looked amazing, with many of our guests approaching us to inquire if we bought our cake, as they wanted to order some for their future events.

My husband and I look forward to ordering more cakes from Janice and Kona Kakes in the future, such as for our wedding anniversary next year ;-)

We had several cake tastings at different bakeries and let me just say that nobody compared to Kona Kakes Tropical Bakery! Their homemade from scratch ingredients and authentic tropical flavors are absolutely mouthwatering and delicious. We purchased their signature butter cake whipped cream macadamia nut caramel wedding cake in a two tier format and all our guests loved it! The freshness and quality can't be beat. If you want a cake that stands out from the rest, I highly recommend Kona Kakes!

Their cakes are to die for! The combination of ingredients was unique and all the guests really enjoyed the taste and beauty of Janice’s artwork! They were very accommodating and on top of things via email. When my now husband went to pay for the cake, they rewarded him w a free cake!

We didn't require a huge cake, just a simple personal cake for my husband and I. I was emailing Janice back and forth because although I didn't want a tiered cake I did want to try the flavors she had available and let me tell you, GO THERE AND TRY IT. They have little mini cakes perfect for after dinner to share (or not share) with someone. It's moist, buttery, so flavorful and not like all the typical cakes you taste day in and day out.

It was perfect size (8 inch round), simple design (horizontal lines all around the cake) and so DELICIOUS (Caramel macadamia nut, their signature flavor; and now we know why!). :)

We got married on 9/3/17, and hired Kona Kakes for our wedding cake. We selected the Caramel Macadamia cake. It was DELICIOUS!! Janice was so great and so helpful making the cake process a breeze! They have many different cakes to pick from but one bite of this cake and we knew it had to be our wedding cake. Cake was delivered and set up on time and everything was perfect!

I found two pictures on pinterest of a mix of how we wanted our cake to look and Janice executed our requests PERFECTLY! The way the cake was decorated and how the "sand", seashells, and mini beach chairs were set up were exactly how we wanted it!

Any time we had questions Janice was always so quick to get back to us and so helpful! She was very sweet and professional!

Janice from Kona Kakes was wonderful! The service and professionalism was top notch. I booked late and I didn’t even do a cake tasting because we were far away but I cannot RAVE enough about their cakes. Janice stayed in contact with me every step of the way. The cakes were so light, so tasty, and SO FLUFFY!! The price was quite affordable for cakes and I everyone loved them! Everyone kept saying how much flavor and how tasty the cakes were. If I lived in San Diego I would have their cakes every day of my life.

I had some cake from a birthday party from KONA KAKES and it was the most delicious cake I have ever eaten in my life. It was guava with mango and/or pineapple. Yes it was expensive I heard but I also heard there were lots of flavors. Caramel macadamia nut etc...
