We absolutely loved our cake. Jennifer was a pleasure to work with, and her cake for us turned out perfect. She listened to us so well and the design was amazing. It was also absolutely delicious! I highly recommend them for any celebration!

We had Jennifer make a dessert bar for us. She helped us to pick the different desserts to serve. She delivered them without any problems and set up the dessert bar beautifully. And they were ALL delicious, barely had any leftovers because everyone loved them so much!

Everybody in Cumberland raves about Jennifer's Desserts, but I ended up being pretty disappointed. We had a great first meeting and I felt like Jennifer understood exactly what I wanted and would deliver. She couldn't quote me an exact price, however, because she needed to add up how much her fondant, sugar flowers, etc. would cost for what I wanted. She quoted me a ballpark and said she would get me the exact price no later than a few weeks before the wedding. When I called back for the quote shortly before the date she didn't have it ready yet. Finally, about a week before the wedding she came back with a price - HOLY MOLY the decorations cost more than the cake itself! It was WAY over anything we had discussed. I was feeling very sticker shocked, but unfortunately couldn't go in a different direction because of the late date. We conveyed to her that although that was way more than we were planning to spend, we would move forward, but we really expected a spectacular cake. Unfortunately, the day of the wedding first thing I noticed was that the cake's layers were visibly CROOKED! We're talking a two layer cake, by the way, not multiple layers. If you were to look at the cake and draw a line where the second layer met the first, it would NOT be a straight line - not even close. At first I thought that maybe I was being too hard on the cake because I was the bride. I took my mother aside after the wedding, however, and asked her "honestly, did the cake look crooked to you" and she said she noticed it too. Jennifer tried to cover up her mistakes by bunching a few sugar flowers on the side of the cake that was most crooked to cover the line, but it was still obvious. Her sugar flowers and leaves were nice, I'll give her that, and the cake tasted good, but for what we paid (over $10/slice people!) I expected a cake that didn't look like it was assembled by a third grader. I get my photos back very soon. I will try to upload a picture if I can.

Horrible Customer Service

I reached out to Jennifer's Desserts to schedule a consultation and tasting in hopes to find the perfect wedding cake baker for my upcoming wedding in Cumberland this November. I didn't even get my foot in the door or the chance to meet her face to face before deciding against having her service us. Her website is very detailed about pricing and the process of scheduling with her. I called her to schedule a consultation (which is free of charge) and a tasting that is priced at $25 per her website. I also confirmed that with her over the phone. She advised me that she was too busy in the coming weeks to have a formal sit down consultation, but I could come pick up tasting samples from her in LaVale and have a "texting" consultation. Now I was thinking this isn't what I really prefer but okay she's busy. So we scheduled for a Saturday morning to pick up tastings. We had to wait around all day until about 3 o'clock for her to tell us she's ready. And it just went downhill from there. As we were on the way to meet her, she texted me stating "the total is $50". Fifty dollars for 3 sample bites when she and her website confirmed otherwise!?!? So I obviously responded stating that and she immediately went on the defense: "They've been that price for some time now", "I don't control rising gas prices or ingredient prices", "I’ve put two hours of work into this", and so on. As if any of those reasons are the fault of the customer or the responsibility of the customer. Being a small business owner myself, I completely and entirely understand that time is valuable, supplies are not free and I understand the impact inflation has on a business. But going straight to defense and deflection mode is a HUGE no no! It makes any business look completely unprofessional! Any mistake or lack of your own business management should not become the customers responsibility. Good business would have been to at least honor the advertised price. I also thought the "rising gas prices" excuse was laughable. I drove 3 hours to pick up these samples.....I'm VERY aware of the rising gas prices as I had to fill my tank TWICE to make this trip. Her time is valuable, but so is mine. This was entire waste of time. This behavior was just completely unacceptable.

The point here is that the price was not the issue, it was her poor customer service, lack of communication and unprofessional demeanor. I couldn't see myself working with someone who makes last minute changes for such an important event. It gave me every hesitation in booking her. It's truly a shame because her work is beautiful, but that attitude is not! Hopefully she'll take some pointers to create a better experience for future potential customers.
