Mukti and Imelda are two of the coolest people you could ever book to cater for anything, much less your wedding. They will work with you to figure out what you want and are tremendously flexible along the way. Our tasting was amazing and made us want to eat basically anything they made; if I could I would've asked for ten appetizers and five entrees. On the big day, their staff was sweet, attentive, and Mukti made sure that we were taken care of. Guests could not stop raving about the food (we opted for seasonal farm to table-meets-Indian for our mains), and many said it was the best wedding food they'd ever had.
Tip: their cocktails are also great, and opt for a signature cocktail. We did a habanero-grapefruit margarita and it was absolutely delicious.

I have been terribly remiss in waiting so long to write up a review for Mukti and Imelda, who catered our wedding at the Dumbo Loft in December 2015. We were instantly impressed by the variety of menus on their website and loved all the options they gave us for ours. We ended up using some of their preset stations (NY-themed) and passed canapes (OMG-bacon wrapped dates), but where they really shined was when they worked with us to develop a few new dishes to suit our tastes. We loved the idea of a noodle bar, which they had on their menu, but we had recently been to Japan and had been really inspired by ramen. When we asked them if they could do it, they took up the challenge wholeheartedly, and what they came up with was beautiful - a proper roast pork broth (and a miso vegetarian option) with an array of toppings ranging from kimchi to hard boiled egg. For passed dishes, we really wanted some sort of sashimi course and Mukti was very honest about not loving the first thing they came up with. But the week before the wedding, she called me and told me they found the dish! The tuna tartare ended up being one of my favourites.
I could go on and on about the quality of the food (and the special bridal onigiri (rice ball) platter they made for me) but the quality of their service needs special mention too. My husband and I live in Australia but all our family is in NY. Mukti helped us out with the arrangements by letting us call after hours and laying out all of the pricing up front. She sent us brilliant floor plans for the venue that we never stepped into until the day of the wedding, and when we did, it was beautiful. The day-of went amazingly smoothly with Mukti making sure that her servers brought food over to Jim and I while we made our rounds. She arranged all the furniture rentals and helped significantly with setup/breakdown. We couldn't have done it without her! Thanks so much, Mukti and Imelda!

We worked with Five Spice for our wedding at the Dumbo Loft. It was clear during the planning phase that food was the most important aspect of the wedding for us. Calling them caterers evokes the wrong images - this is a fine dining experience at your own wedding. Every dish was designed and prepared with thoughtfulness and care, and from appetizers to dessert, the food was phenomenal. Honestly, the meal at our wedding was by far the best that I've had at any wedding and it is the first thing our guests talk about when we see them. One of our foodie guests even went into the kitchen to ask the cooks how they prepared one of the dishes.

Mukti and Imelda are quite the duo; highly complementary and very sweet. While both are involved throughout the process, Mukti leads on the business end and Imelda leads on the menu and in the kitchen. After speaking with other wedding caterers, talking with Mukti was a breath of fresh air - there's no hard sell, no fake deadlines and no exploding discounts. She always volunteered her honest opinion on what she thought would work and what wouldn't. Also she's really organized and kept me sane during the final days leading up to the wedding. From signing the contract through making last minute changes, Mukti was highly transparent on costs. She was also happy to brainstorm with me on how to cut back on non-essential areas (that conversation was painful with other caterers). Imelda was also amazing to work with and helped to curate our random assortment of ideas for the menu into a balanced, delicious ensemble. Throughout the process they both felt more like close friends than vendors. They will make you feel totally comfortable during a often stressful time.

Mukti and Imelda were such a pleasure to work with that we wish we had another reason to hire them again. Instead we're both actively convincing our friends to use Five Spice for their weddings just so we can enjoy more of their delicious creations.

Working with Mukti and Imelda is like working with two of your closest friends who just happen to be the most amazing businesswomen and chefs. From start to finish, every aspect of our menu and wedding planning process was completely flawless. From carefully choosing our menu around many food allergies, to creating custom cocktails based on our personalities, and mapping out the flow and floor plan of our wedding space, Mukti and Imelda were able to nail every task with precision and ease, taking a lot of weight off of our already heavy shoulders. Not only was the food the talk of our wedding, but so many of our guests complimented the service and how professional and on point the whole evening was. It was incredible to walk away from our wedding with so many compliments and positive feedback from our guests! There are not enough ways to describe how amazing our wedding experience with Mukti and Imedla was and we can only hope we're so lucky to eat their food again!

We can't say enough good things about Mukti and Imelda of Five Spice. Their food is really unique -- the kind of food people take notice of, and talk about after the event -- with the sort of delicious strong flavors and attention to detail you rarely see at a wedding. They were patient with us about menu-planning, and thoughtfully incorporated elements of the cuisine of our home countries, as well as various dietary restrictions and requirements. Along with being delicious, everything looked beautiful.

Also special about Five Spice is their professionalism. Mukti is an incredibly efficient organizer, but also a kind and thoughtful one. Working with her felt like working with a friend who also happens to be completely competent and dedicated. Their catering staff is made up of the loveliest people, who thoughtfully kept us well fed and hydrated during the wedding and made sure we had spaces to get away to when we got overwhelmed or wanted privacy.

Our catering was the major expenditure of our wedding, and we don't regret it. It made everything else come together -- the high quality of service and beautiful presentation made our venue seem even more special, and made the whole day more memorable. We really encourage you to choose Five Spice if you take food seriously and want something special.

Five Spice is amazing. Our wedding was at the Bell House in Brooklyn, which doesn't offer food, or really have a kitchen. Mukti and Imelda set up in a hallway and somehow managed to cook some of the best food I've ever tasted. We ordered the Southern Comfort (fried chicken) with a lot of appetizers. Everyone raved about the food, and some of my friends actually had contests to see who could eat the most fried chicken. Everything was great, but I especially recommend the bacon-wrapped dates. I can seriously still taste them now.

So the food is great, but also, Mukti and Imelda are a pleasure to deal with. They were great about working with us to find a menu that fit our budget, and our meetings with them felt like we were hanging out with friends instead of transacting business.

Really, my old complaint about 5 Spice is that they don't own a restaurant, so I don't get to eat their food again unless one of my friends hires them for a wedding.

Five Spice is an absolutely amazing catering company, with some of the friendliest and most helpful staff. Upon meeting them, my husband and I knew right away we had to book them. Once we went to their tasting, which showed us their unique and beautiful style of food, we were thrilled to be working with them. Mukti kept everything in check making sure to get back to my emails in a timely manor.
The day of went so smoothly, and it was exactly how I had imagined it. I haven't even begun to really talk about their food, but that it was phenomenal! For our wedding we wanted to have what would be an "extended cocktail" service where little bites to eat would be passed all night, along with a carving station. I was a little worried that there wouldn't be enough to eat, but they kept coming out with plates all night and people were eating it all. NO ONE was hungry at the end of our event. Overall, I am so happy with Five Spice: wonderful and friendly service and some of the best food I've had!

My husband and I were pretty much on our own in terms of wedding planning, and opted to do everything ourselves without the help of a wedding planner. Initially, we thought this would be totally manageable until we realized that neither of us is particularly skilled at event planning! When we first started to hunt for caterers, Five Spice immediately jumped out from the crowd, and I set up a call with Mukti. After chatting with her for 45 minutes, I was SOLD...and I hadn't even tried the food yet! We went to a tasting where each dish was honestly better than the last. Mukti and Imelda and the team are absolute dreams to work with, and made us feel incredibly at ease during what could have potentially been a very stressful time! They worked tirelessly with us to craft a perfect menu, and even put up with my (probably annoying!) last minute requests and questions. All of our guests absolutely RAVED about the food, and everyone said it was some of the, if not THE best, wedding food they'd ever had. They even went so far as to make sure that my husband and I had beautifully plated dishes of everything on the menu brought to our table so that we definitely got to eat during the wedding...which as you know is not that common for the bride and groom usually! :) The staff was accommodating, warm, and so professional during the event. I can't possibly say enough good things about Five Spice! :)

From the first meeting with Mukti and Imelda we knew that we had made the right choice. They were both very attentive and super professional. Five Spice catering offered great insight into our options, menus, settings, etc. To work with them was not only a great experience, it was an amazing journey. We wanted a russian-mexican theme to reflect our heritage but also wanted to have an elegant and intimate evening. The day of the tasting we got blown away by the menu. It was such a fun night. The menu design was so original. Also what I thought was exceptional was that Five Spice uses only the best, hand picked, local, farmers market, organic, high quality produce. This shows the level of love and passion they have for their trade.

The days leading up to the wedding Five Spice were incredibly attentive, answered all of our questions, offered advice and made sure all went according to plan. The night of the wedding it all came together. Absolutely stunning. The food, just like the tasting, was outstanding and with a few additional items that we had not tried - and it was all so good! What was also amazing was the service. The servers, bartender and cooks provided superb service, great professionalism and were incredibly attentive. It was a signature touch. Our guests had an incredible experience. To this day, when people talk about our wedding, the first thing that they say is that the food was incredible and the service world class. Everyone says it was a very unique and intimate wedding. You can not beat the great feeling of making the right choice, specially for such a special day as our wedding. Five Spice catering are by far one of NYCs most upcoming, fresh, talented and professional caterers out there. They are raising the bar. We would recommend them anytime anywhere.

Mukti and Imelda did an amazing job of catering our wedding! We had a very specific goal of serving comfort foods from our two home countries (US/Australia) and they were willing to work with our ideas (and let us bring in a few specialty outside vendors) in order to come up with a perfect menu that was within our budget.

On the day of the wedding, they took care of everything and all our guests raved about the food, both the taste and the beautiful presentation. Our favorite dishes were the fried chicken served in baskets with fresh rosemary and the creamy mac n' cheese! The serving staff and bartenders were attentive and fun - one bartender even quickly ran over after the father of the bride's speech to give him a beer since he had forgotten to bring a drink to toast with!

Overall, Mukti and Imelda were easy and very transparent to work with. They were upfront and honest about issues and costs throughout the process, which was a breath of fresh air after talking to some other caterers. We're so happy we had the opportunity to work with them for such a special occasion!
