We are a custom wedding and event cake studio, now located at 13813 G Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA.

National acclaimed baker seen on Bake it Like Buddy and the Discovery Family Channel. The owner and operator Chef Tawanda Hammond is currently an instructor for our US Military at Ft. Lee.

We're so excited about this upcoming bridal season and so are our brides. Now is the time to reserve your dates for the year.

Consultations are available on Saturdays or Sundays per reservation $25.00 sample fee.

Wedding deposits are $100.00, balances are due 30 days prior to contracted event.

Delicious cake happy couple

On our wedding day, the cake was delivered on time and very delicious. No complaints from us or our guest. Our cake was custom made, fresh, and affordable. We had more than enough. Cakes by Tawanda did a amazing job.

Cakes by Tawanda: Top Notch

The cake for our wedding day was absolutely gorgeous - Tawanda took our inspiration photos and replicated it exactly, with a small flair that made it so much better. The cake was also incredibly delicious - multiple people said it was the best wedding cake they ever had. At one point our dance floor was almost empty because so many people were back at their seats eating cake (including my groom and I)! I could not recommend Chef Hammond higher.

Wedding cake

Ms. Tawanda was very kind to accommodate our last minute preparations. She made time to have a telephone conversation to discuss all the details of our wedding cakes. I will highly recommend her service.
The wedding cake was delicious and the decorations were absolutely lovely, just like how I described to her via email and phone calls.
Thank you, Ms. Tawanda for your time and effort and efficiency and I would love to have your services in the future 😊
Also, I hope that she expand her businesses in the west end. We need more people like her!

Most delicious cakes

Tawanda is amazingly talented and you will not regret for one second hiring this wonder. We ordered the vanilla almond cake and cupcakes. She made the cake of our dreams and it was the most delicious thing we have ever tasted.

Wonderful!!!! Dairy and gluten free, delicious, and beautiful! Couldn’t have asked for better!

This cake was amazing! Tawanda made us an incredible gluten and dairy free carrot cake. Our guests could not believe it! Beautifully decorated, she worked with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. Definitely recommend her!!!!

Great Wedding Cake

Working with Tawanda was awesome. Her and her team are so easy to work with and let me tell you, she makes one heck of a cake! Not only was our wedding cake beautiful, it melted in your mouth and tasted phenomenal! We had one guest that we knew was Gluten Free so we had a small side cake make for that guest. Our guest raved about that cake as well. You definitely won't go wrong with getting your cake from Tawanda!

Fantastic cake decorations and delicious cake and frosting.!!
I normally don't like icing but the one she made was irresistible and I even licked my fingers.
Everybody likes the cake and the different kind of cupcakes she made for my wedding.... Nothing left after the wedding. !!

Tawanda was so easy to work with and took the time to answer my questions. When I first met with her for the cake tasting, she shared pictures of cakes she has done and gave me a wedding book for the Hampton Roads area since I wasn't from the area. She answered emails in a timely manner and was very pleasant to work with. My daughter and son in law chose a grooms cake as well as a wedding cake. They looked beautiful and tasted delicious!! Tawanda was wonderful and I would highly recommend her to others!

Ms. Tawanda has been a great vendor from the very beginning. I learned about her from a friend and decided to stop by the shop. She was very personable and professional. We scheduled a cake tasting and loved the samples. While doing our tasting a bride and groom arrived at the shop with flowers as a gesture of thanks for her services. If the cake didn't sell it the responses from previous customers definitely sealed the deal. We're more than happy with the professional relationship we've built with Cakes by Tawanda. She is well versed in her craft and seeks to please.

Cake turned out beautiful and everyone enjoyed it. Would have liked to have a package with a small topper cake for our anniversary so we didn't have to freeze the topper.
