What color(s) go with burgundy?

loveat1stsite, on January 3, 2010 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

When I got engaged and started meeting with vendors or just talking with friends, everyone asked about my "vision" and how I pictured my big day...and I was like..umm i have no idea. The only thing I ever thought about my big day was bridesmaid dresses in burgundy and a wedding in October. Apparently, you should have more than one color..what goes well with burgundy? I was straying towards gold because the ballroom has a lot of gold accents. Your honest opinions are greatly appreciated.

Gold is excellent with burgundy. Greens as well (I would stay away from hunter green to keep it from looking too christmas-y). Gold, even some yellows, black, white, hmmm I'll have to look up some pictures to see what else I can come up with.

Jlacy is right about hunter green; if you go with green a lighter green is going to be the best way to go. I always thought pink looked nice with burgundy as well or how about an aqua like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/179/367267551_d3ff6b1f31.jpg?v=0

Gold looks amazing with Burgundy...maybe even black instead if the facility has a lot of gold in it you might not need a second color...and just have the gold tied into the reception somehow with the burgundy.

Burgundy and orange definitely looks great together if you want to stick with fall colors.

Thanks guys...Love the pics jlacy..thanks! I usually don't like gold so I guess that was my reservation with that...like I don't wear yellow gold jewelry, only white gold...would that look bad?

I also like the orange..I love the fall and that is why I picked October so keeping with the color scheme is good..thanks cath.

I think silver/white gold would be really pretty with burgundy, but I'm not sure with the gold venue. I'm sure you can add bits of silver here and there and it would look great too, but nothing too overwhelming.

Well it would only be for my jewelry...would that look bad if my colors are gold and burgundy and I was wearing white gold jewelry?

I have a great fondness for browns, my living room has a gold, burgundy, chocolate brown theme going on and I think the colors look really good together.

From the start, my colors have been Burgundy & Gold although a lot of that is because my dress is Burgundy (I didn't feel comfortable walking down the aisle in white with my 9 year old son walking behind me!). To give you an idea of how they can work together, check my IB for a look at my dress...

My venue also had a lot of gold accents. it's ok...my colors were still silver and burgundy though! and i wore white gold as well. i also had silver beading on my dress and veil. Smiley smile i still love it. it's more neutral and classy although some might say traditional. but i think gold and burgundy is even more traditional, unless you add touches of chocolate....i think the IT trendy colors are tangerine and red/burgundy or teal and burgundy....whatever screams you. Smiley smile

I LOVE burgundy & gold. I manage to decorate my living room with those colors in every house I ever live in. FH joked (rightly so) that those would be our wedding colors, and they would have been, but I found the most beautiful eggplant dress for my daughter to wear, so that settled it.

Don't worry about mixing gold & silver. My colors have actually evolved to be eggplant, gold & silver. I just couldn't decide because I love gold & silver both, so I'm having both. It's my wedding and personally I think they look good together!

My MOH is getting married on the 17th and she's having wine (burgundy) and champagne (gold). The dresses look great! Good luck!
