Tattoo Advice, Please!!

Bright Eyes, on April 25, 2010 at 12:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

So for those of you who don't know, I'm a Saffa (South African). My heritage is extremely important to me, and I've wanted to get a tattoo for a while showing my love for my country. I designed this as one of my options:

Photobucket

It's the continent of Africa filled in by the South African flag (turned vertically). I absolutely love it, but I want to do something more to it. I'm just not sure what. What do you ladies think??

Side Note: FH is getting the same tattoo after going to SA with me and falling in love with the country as well. I kind of want to make mine a little different, but I think it's adorable that he wants to match.

How about your favorite flower on the "map" where SA is?

Thats really cool. idk how to make it your own....you could put something in the background...or turn the flag so its horizontal....ive never been too creative but i like the idea!

That's actually an awesome idea. My other idea is to have a banner wrap around the continent that says 'An African Soul.' That phrase is really important to me because for a long time I felt unsure about my heritage, kind of like a fraud. I had to go to speech classes so I no longer have my accent, and I'm white. I felt weird. When I visited home last, I met a guy about my age who, after talking to me for hours, told me that I had an African Soul. It sounds so weird now, but it meant (and still does) so much to me.

You could always add the springbok in there if you follow rugby. Talk to the tattoo artist they have great ideas they could use shading to make it look more 3d like its rising up out of your skin

You could do both, but that kind of rides on how big you want it lol. But I think it'd be balanced if you put the flower on SA and the banner across the Mali/Algeria region up yonder, like wrap it around. The flag is important because it's SA, but the design not so much, if I'm reading what you're getting at right, right?
