Need a memorial poem to honor his deceased mom

Maria, on February 24, 2011 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Does anyone know where I can find a nice memorial poem to put on the programs for my FH mom. She passed and he doesn't want to do a unity candle or put up a photo of her because it's still emotional for him. So we were thinking maybe a poem on the back of the program to acknowledge her in some sort of way. Is there a website I can find some poems?

Although we can not see you

    We know you are here

    Smiling down

    Watching over us

    As we say "I Do."

    Forever in our hearts

    Forever in our lives

    Is where you'll always stay.

We will think of you in silence

As we say our vows today

    In loving memory of _______

I can't help you with a poem, I'm terrible with that stuff. I would just google memorial poems and see what you find. I think that's a fantastic idea though and very sweet. We are putting two empty chairs at our ceremony with a single white rose on each to remember my grandmothers who have passed and we will have a line in the back of our programs to tell our guests what they represent.

We though of you with love today,

    but that is nothing new.

    We thought of you yesterday

and the days before that too.

We think of you in silence.

    We often speak your name.

Now all we have are memories

and your picture in a frame.

    Your memory is our keepsake,

    with which we'll never part.

God has you in His keeping,

we have you in our hearts.

but I guess that is more for a frame.

Also, my husband's mom died 6 weeks before the wedding. We put a flower on a chair to reserve one for her. And she loved butterflies, so we had small feather butterflies hidden in the flowers, boutonnieres, BM hair... so we were surrounded by her presence.

If roses grow in Heaven Lord

Please pick a bunch for me.

Place them in my Mother's arms

and tell her they're from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her,

and when she turns to smile,

Place a kiss upon her cheek

and hold her for a while.

    Because remembering her is easy,

    I do it everyday,

But there is an ache within my heart

    That will never go away.

OMG ladies, I'm getting all misty eyed! These are beautiful! I never had the pleasure of meeting my FMIL as she passed away before I met FH, but what a great way to honor her and the rest of the FILs during the ceremony. Thanks for this post, Maria!
