makeup for destination wedding

LeeAnna, on January 14, 2011 at 12:48 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

I am having a Destination wedding in Punta Cana and I am worried about the resort spa doing my hair and makeup as I don't have any options if I don't like them on my trial one day before the wedding (If I even get a trail). Does anyone have any experience with this?

I can't imagine that you wouldn't get a trial but here is what I suggest to bride's in your situation. For hair, bring as many visuals as you can. At least 3-4 pictures of the hair you love. If you are super concerned find a hairdresser here that can do it for you, take some pictures and bring it with you. You may also want to pay attention to what the hairdresser is doing and ask questions about how to fix anything you don't like if it isn't working out on the actual day.

For make-up, take a lesson here at home! I give them to bride's all the time. Have a pro make-up artist that specializes in weddings sit down with you and show you exactly what to do. It's a win-win for you- you get some awesome tips and have one less thing to worry about!

    I hope that helps!!

We had a hair and make-up person we hired over the phone, and never had a trial with. In addition to Tiffany N.'s suggestion, you can always ask for references, or pictures of other brides whose hair she has done.

Having a destination wedding means that you don't have as much control over the details of your wedding. You probably won't have tasted the food or the cake, seen the florist's work, etc. However, the worst that can happen with regard to hair and make-up is that this person does not work out, and you have to do your own hair and make-up. And that is not the end of the world. You'll still be married at the end of the day.

I had a DW wedding as well. I didn't have a trial. The Make Up/Hair people had a website so I had photos of their work. Ask them to send you samples of their work. That is what I did with all the vendors I was thinking of going with.

You could have someone locally do a trial, take lots of photos and bring them with you to show exactly how you want it done.

Hey LeeAnna I'm getting married in Punta Cana too Smiley smile woo hoo, what resort are you doing your DW? Mine is Paradisus Punta Cana

I wouldn't worry so much about hair and make up, they have professional staff in each Resort Spa, me being spanish, if they can deal with thick curly stubborn hair, they have no problem with fine hair etc...

they have binders with hairstyles, they do weddings like almost everday out in Punta Cana, I visited several resorts before making up my mind on PPC

The one thing I didn't like was their prices, so I ventured out of the resort and found a hair salon in their plazas (they have several) and that's what I'm going to do with my hair, in regards to my makeup I'm hiring a professional make up artist from DR to come and do my make up, let me know if you need help, that'smy second home Smiley smile

Excellent advice from Tiffany N.; I totally second that! 1) bring photos of your "dream" hair style 2) take a private makeup lesson "just in case" ! And (most importantly!) have Model-in-a-bottle Makeup setting spray with you: http://forprincessbride.com/store/product2.html. This way, even in hot and humid weather, your makeup will stay put no matter what!!! Enjoy your wedding!

Thank you all so much for your help. Those are all great suggestions. I thought having a destination wedding would mean a lot less stress, but I have come to realize I am a control freak and need to be in control of everything or I get anxious.

I have heard great things about model in a bottle, I will definietely try it out, as that is my biggest worry that my make up will not last the entire day in the humidity.

Thanks for the offer Ms Sunshyne. You are so lucky to be able to visit several resorts before choosing. I have never been to mine, I chose the Majestic Elegance. But I have heard great things about it and have a friend who got married there, so I'm not worried.

I've shot quite a few weddings at the Majestic Elegance and Colonial. The makeup artists there are very good. Only once did I see them not do a great job, and it was only because they darkened my brides eyebrows too much. Their hairstylists are very good, as well. I think you will be happy. You can message me if you need any other help with that resort.

The Majestic Elegance is gorgeous!! I love this resort. Enjoy!

We are also having a DW, but in Vermont. I am foregoing a MUA and a hair dresser because there would be no trials. I went to the Estee Counter the other day, at our local Lord and Taylor. The manager did my wedding make-over, took pics, let me write down my notes. Of course, I also spent $130 on some but not all of the product. I will buy the other products as the local department stores have free giveaways. Yes, it was way more expensive than hiring a MUA blindly, but I am picky and couldn't risk not liking the end result.

Re hair....I am going to my stylist. She is doing it. I will take pics and either I am doing it or I am hiring blindly. Since I am a control freak, I will probably wind up doing it myself...a curled side pony tail.

    Good luck!

Hey Ms. Sunshyne, which makeup-artist professional did you go with? Do you mind sending over their contact info and prices?

    Thanks!

Hello! Can anyone provide the contact information for the makeup/hair vendors you hired to come onsite to your wedding location in the DR? Thanks so much!

Hi! I am getting married on June 6th at Ocean Blue and Sand, Punta Cana. My Maid of Honor, who was suppose to do our hair and makeup, just cancelled. I will have 4 bridesmaids, my 9 year old daughter and myself that will need hair and makeup. Do you guys have any suggestions. I have emailed Kristy Ann this morning. I am afraid with it only being a month away, everyone will be booked. Thanks in advance!
