How much did you pay for your wedding photographer?

The venue I love requires that everyone performing a service in your wedding is a professional with a business license and insurance on file with the venue (the venue is a museum). They gave a list of preferred vendors and I've been checking out their websites. One charged $4,000 for wedding photography, another charged $3,600, another $2,900. And these are all their BASIC packages.

Their photos were beautiful but the prices seem so high. I scrapbook a lot so it's important to me to get really good pictures and plenty of them. What is everyone else paying for their photographs?

We are paying $650 for two photographers for 6 hours of coverage on a Thursday. This includes their online gallery for 6 months, a disk with all of our pictures edited & finished with rights to print, etc. Does not include an album.

I am getting it as my gift from my cousin. She is ameture/just starting out professionally and I know that I am going to sound like I am cheap and what not. I have a budget for the whole wedding that wouldn't buy almost any of your basic photog prices. I know her skill and like her style so I am ok with less than amazing results because its that or nothing really.

I'm getting full rights to all of our pictures, all of them touched up/edited, 2 photographers for 5 hours for $800 and his work is amazing. He has blogs going back a year or two, and I've spoken to previous customers of his and they raved about him. So I'm really excited. FH and I just couldn't afford to spend more than 500, but the photogs set us up to only pay half now and half right before the wedding, which worked out for us well.

$400.00 and he will bring equipment to print 5x7's to sell for 10.00 each to the reception. So if friends wanted to get some group shots done they can take them home that day!

Like 2dBride, I found our photographer on Craigslist. He had a package for $600 that included 3 hours (but he agreed to stay longer at no charge, if things ran a little longer, such as the cake cutting), one photographer, all pictures on disc with full rights, online gallery, 8 X 10 album, and (I think) 10 - 12 prints (5 X 7, 8 X 10, and 11 X 16). We had a very small wedding, and it didn't last all day, so finding a photographer last minute-ish (we booked him a month before the wedding - thankfully, another couple had to postpone their wedding, so he had a cancellation), who was willing to take on a job for less than the usual 8 - 10 hours on a Saturday in the middle of summer, for around a $1,000 or less was a bit of a challenge. And Corbin was really easy to work with, and we both liked his work!

I told the FH about the cost of the photographer I like and he didn't even bat an eye. Said that $4,000 would be fine. I think he knows something I don't....

@ Brian - that's what I mean when I say full rights [printing rights]. I guess I should have been more clear.

@ Sharon - Love that picture...your photographer got so many great shots of you guys!

We paid 3100 for ours which was all day, a disc of images with printing rights, 2 photographers, and engagement session, and... i think that's it. My photog is amazing though!!!! Love her to death!!! Totally worth it, like Sharon, I refused to skimp on photography... It was the only thing that I wanted to spend tons of money on! really that, your rings, and a dress in a box is all that is left at the end of the day...
