How much did you pay for your wedding photographer?

The venue I love requires that everyone performing a service in your wedding is a professional with a business license and insurance on file with the venue (the venue is a museum). They gave a list of preferred vendors and I've been checking out their websites. One charged $4,000 for wedding photography, another charged $3,600, another $2,900. And these are all their BASIC packages.

Their photos were beautiful but the prices seem so high. I scrapbook a lot so it's important to me to get really good pictures and plenty of them. What is everyone else paying for their photographs?

I think you all overpaid, haha.

    Ours is $600.00

Full day's coverage, morning till end. Two photographers.

I own my photos. (That's the one thing I wanted)

150 edited prints (wasn't necessary, but we're paying for it so she'll get them to us. We'll have our photos within two weeks of the wedding. She has a $10,000 camera and knows how to use it (plus - LIGHTING!). She is just what we're looking for.

Folks, a number of things that I just don't see anyone commenting on when looking at "inexpensive" photographers. First off, no liability insurance. Are they actually a business? What do they do when something goes wrong? It will. Inevitably. A professional knows what to do and takes care of it without your even knowing something went off track. So your photographer drops their one and only flash. End of story for them. And they'll tell you how sorry they are. Regret doesn't replace anything.

Who is going to print them? Pro labs give you quality that lasts. . . I've done restorations on images that are three years old because they faded from their Walmart special printing. If they're not actually in business and get busted by the state (yep, it happens!) and end up losing all their equipment, were is your stuff at. It's totally cool to go with a super cheap photographer -- but you are absolutely risking your most beautiful and special day to not having any images to look at years later

Basic packages should range between 800-1800. 800 normally is for a photographer that is just starting out and has semi-pro equip. **** is for a semi-experienced to experienced photographer with all pro gear. www.dcmproductionsllc.com

2 Plastic Black Shank Buttons – if you can find an oval shape even better

    1 Plastic Yellow Shank Button

1 Sheet of White Craft Foam

    Black Card Stock

    Straight Pins

    Fabric Glue

    Tape

    Green Floral Tape

    Floral Wire

The best and easiest way to get an idea of market prices for photographers is to know it's all about supply and demand. In a small town, a photographer can probably charge less because it costs them less to operate and demand is going to be relatively flat. They "could" charge more knowing that they are the only ones in town, but likely wouldn't because why encourage anyone to come in and compete with them?

In a large city, a photographer can charge more because there are a lot more people who demand their product, even if the supply is higher as well. Plus, the income range is likely greater.

If you are in the Houston area, looking for houston wedding photographers, or in the dallas area, looking for dallas wedding photographers, then the best place to go is really metrojojo.com

They have a lot of photographers on there that are all technically skilled, across all sorts of price ranges.
