Groom, Groomsmen attire for beach wedding! Opinion please!

Maui Bride, on February 22, 2011 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hey ladies! I wanted to ask your opinion on a few things in regards to FH and groomsmen attire. We know we definitely want linen pants but FH is thinking he wants to wear a white linen shirt to differentiate him as the groom and the groomsmen to wear light pink (coral color) shirts. The problem is since my dress is blush I feel like it wouldn't go but I can't tell him my dress is blush! He keeps saying and "we'll be the ones in white". I'm thinking he should wear a light jacket for the ceremony. So my question is... what do you ladies think I should do and how do I veer him away from the color shirts on the guys without telling him my dress is blush? Maybe that it clashes with the bridesmaid dress colors? Here's some pics!

Unless is scrambles them:

1.) Look I think FH should wear (not the best pic)

2.) Look I think groomsmen should wear (but linen shirt material)

3.) Similar to the shirt FH wants the groomsmen to wear (but the one he wants is a tad bit lighter)

I like the stuff you posted. The guys are wearing linen pants like the ones on the grooup pic, right?

I think as long as the shirt is lighter, it'll be good. I do think tho, that if they're wearing linen pants, the shirt should be of a smoother material, to give texture contrast (like on the group pic. they have lienen pants and a regular white shirt) get what I'm saying?

I like your choices! We are doing something very similar only white linen shirt for the BM. My FH wanted to wear a colored short sleeve shirt himself and I just told him that based on my dress he should wear something more formal and that I thought a white shirt would look best. He didn't press for more because he really doesn't want to know anything about my dress. That was all he needed to hear and now he wants a linen suit with white shirt, tie and pocket square. Much better than his original choice. Try telling him something like that, use style as a reason instead of color. That way you're gorgeous dress will still be a surprise. I LOVE your dress!!!

    Thanks for the input guys!

The reason we are wanting a light linen shirt instead of a smoother business shirt is because it will be lighter, I think the smoother shirts hold in heat more and would show sweat....? Am I totally off? I also kind of think just wearing a collared shirt looks kind of unfinished vs linen shirts are meant to be worn on their own...again am I off? Help! (Also, the linen pants will be a little thicker material and a khaki color)

I'd just tell him that because the color of the BM dresses are not a standard color and that you don't want to take a risk that the pink/coral shirts he wants the GMs to wear would clash that you think they should just wear the white shirts. He'll stand out because he's going to be wearing a jacket.

I love the linen!! I agree with @Konichiwa. That might be the best way around it. You could also give him a different bout.?? What if they did a different color that coordinated with the BM dresses? http://www.islandimporter.com/product.php?productid=2&cat=3&page=1

I agree, do different fabrics, if you can. The pant and jacket always look nice as the same, but switch it up for the shirt. Plus, remember linen wrinkles like crazy!

Love the bridesmaid dresses! And I don't think your dress looks blush, nor that your hubby-to-be would be able to tell the difference. Smiley winking But I do think that the image you show here is more of a light orange than light pink (or it could be my iMac). If I were you I would show him the BM dress color and that is all you have to do to make sure it will go with the color of your dress, too.

Sounds like he just wants you both to stand out and be special. Really cute! Don't have any bright ideas for how you go about getting him to go back to the white for the guys though…sorry.

To me, the linen shirt is way to casual to pair with your BMs dresses. I think a regular shirt would go best. They could roll up the sleeves or get a short sleeve to make it casual feeling. But, I still think regular shirts will look sharper... Smiley smile

I agree completely on the linen aspect. It will be far more comfortable for him given your location. Linen will breathe a lot better than traditional dress shirt fabrics. I also think colored shirts will show more sweat and my bigger concern with the colored shirts is matching the BP dresses. Diva's sister did it really well but that can be really difficult unless you go with matching designers/manufacturers for the dresses and shirts.

I am no fashion guru, but what about putting the guys in navy or black pants (or FS in one of those.) It still has that casual feel if they are linen but they will be different enough to stand out. You could also mix it up and do white pants with a kakhi shirt. Or just hubby in all white (pants and shirts) and the GM in kakhi and white. Or l just have hubby where lighter kakhi and the GM wear a darker one.

Yay I'm back! Did anyone else get a message saying WW was down? Ugh - it's been happening a lot lately!

Hmmm so many things to think about!

@ Konichiwa - how did I not think of that? It doesn't match the bridesmaids dresses...so simple Smiley smile

@STB Mrs. Crumpet I see what you mean about the business shirts looking a little sharper to go along with the BM dresses... I'll do some research to see what breathable fabric's are out there in that style!

@Jaemi - I like the thought of using different shades of khaki and/or altering pant/shirt of FH and groomsmen... I don't think I want to add anymore colors though since there will already be Blush (my dress) Rosy Brown (BM dresses) White (groom shirt for sure) and Khaki/beige is a neutral color we're using throughout so it just seems to match. Aye aye aye... I'll love when this is all figured out!

My dress was blush and the guys wore white shirts (tuxedo shirts actually without the covered buttons - they looked really cool), it doesn't clash.

You can definitely see the sweat on the regular shirts though - but Rick is a sweat monster...lol
