Wouldn't change a thing! The entire weekend of wedding events were held on the grounds of the rustic, charming First Colony Inn. The 26 room B&B was perfect for all of our family, wedding party and close friends to stay together. A delicious hot breakfast was served each morning and each afternoon a social time with complimentary wine & charcuterie was topping on the cake. Beautiful setting and the Inn staff was fabulous and easy to work with! -

When we were searching in the OBX for our wedding venue, we fell in love with the charm of The First Colony Inn! Our plans were to have a small, intimate wedding with family and friends. We stayed over for a night to get a feel for it, and we felt so cozy and comfortable! Hannah and Kanda are so welcoming and accommodating in so many ways. Even though out the chaos of us having to post-pone our wedding due too Hurricane Dorian! They made sure guests rooms were re-booked and everything was right.
We had our ceremony on the Beach across the street, and our reception in a tent in the side yard, it unfortunately rained... which caused a muddy mess under the tent! This was our ONLY complaint. The property manager should defiantly do something about this, since they have events often in the yard and I was told it always floods.
We spend the weekend at FCI and it was sunny the rest of the time. It is so enjoyable waking up to see the sunrise on the beach that is so conveniently close. My daughter and I enjoy sitting on the balcony swings to watch the sunsets too!
We had stayed there about 3 other times prior to having our wedding and we will continue to come back every year because it feels like home away from home :)

This was the perfect backdrop for our wedding – we wanted a beach ceremony with a tented lawn reception and despite the slightly chilly temps in early April, everything was gorgeous! The staff was wonderfully accommodating to our group and made sure everyone was well taken care of. Delicious hot breakfasts, large and comfortable rooms and the beautiful grounds just contributed to our amazing weekend. Hannah was so helpful throughout the planning process and keeping track of all our room reservations and guest counts. We went back and forth over email many times and Hannah’s responses were always quick and very informative. I’d highly recommend this as a wedding venue or even just for a weekend getaway!First Colony Inn's reply:

Beautiful, Unique, Historic Wedding Venue
The first time my husband, family and I visited the First Colony Inn I was sold!! No other venue that I saw compared. I fell in love with it's charm, great location and history. First about the venue itself: beautiful cedar siding, reminiscent of old style nags head cottages; all the rooms are named after lost colonist; each door has an actual key to unlock (which I loved); time-period and historic decor and art throughout each room; amazing homemade rotating breakfast each day; wine & cheese happy hour everyday. An amazing place to stay any time of the year!!
Wedding related perks: You can block off the entire 26 rooms over your wedding weekend, which is so great because all of my family and friends were able to stay here in one place. We didn't have to worry about transportation, and it was one spot everyone could be together for the entire long weekend - I would often come outside to see family and friends just sitting together on the back deck catching up and having a great time. There are several other hotels and homes located nearby for additional guests who were able to walk over for a visit and for the wedding.
All of my wedding vendors (DJ, caterer, photographer, bar tenders, coordinator, etc) had worked other weddings at FCI, which was SO helpful for planning my wedding from up in PA. They all knew the FCI layout and exactly how/what they needed to set-up, etc. This was a huge help that FCI is a well-known venue. We also purchased our beer and wine from FCI. They take care of the entire process! We were provided a generous list of available options to choose from. FCI orders it all a few weeks before the wedding, takes care of delivery, chilling, and getting it set-up with our bartenders, etc. It was a very easy process.
Another wonderful thing - the entire Inn and its grounds make such a beautiful back drop for photographs. We barely had to decorate - there are colorful flowers throughout the grounds (even during November), evergreen shrubs enclose the entire property, and the white porches are STUNNING. Wedding weekend
I absolutely loved First Colony Inn. It was perfect for our rustic beach wedding and for accommodating all of our out of town family. We loved being with everyone for the weekend and not just our wedding day. It was also great having private access to the beach!First Colony Inn's reply:

User2405809 Sent on 11/02/2015We held a wedding on the beach in front on First Colony Inn. A large number of our guests stayed at the Inn that weekend. First Colony was very flexible and accommodating. In addition to the beach wedding, we held a welcome reception and cocktail hour on the back patio. Both were beautiful and just what we had hoped for. The staff did a great job. We had the reception at another venue, primarily to provide a backup location in case of inclement weather. The only real downside with using the Inn as a gathering place for a wedding weekend is that the Library and Breakfast Room are closed before 9pm, leaving only outdoors or individual rooms as after-hours gathering place. I would definitely reccomend this location. The rooms and grounds are beautiful and Kanda will go above and beyond to make arrangements for you and your guests. -
User2139599 Sent on 05/19/2015First Colony Inn was the wedding venue we had been searching for! We searched up and down the Outer Banks and toured several venues. We were looking for something that our guests would remember and that would be quaint, classic, and charming. The Inn had it all! They require that you rent the entire Inn for the weekend of your wedding (Friday and Saturday night) but that was no problem because it gave us the chance to spend the weekend with our family and friends and we had the WHOLE place to ourselves! It poured Friday night before the wedding and we had originally planned an outdoor welcome reception for 60+ people and the Inn was so gracious to us and our guests when it was moved inside. They worked with the caterers and made sure that everything ran smoothly. The rooms are so cute and old fashioned looking, yet clean and upgraded where needed. The grounds are gorgeous and even though it rained the day before, the grass was luckily dry enough to have the ceremony on the South Lawn. Oh, and the breakfasts were GREAT! People are still talking about the breakfasts :) The only downfall is that they require a hefty rental fee for use of the lawn and then they make you rent restrooms! Like we are already paying for the entire Inn for the whole weekend, and there are 26 bathrooms there, but we have to dish out an additional $3,000+ for use of the lawn and to rent restrooms? But, of course, anything that has to do with a wedding is additional! That aside, they were GREAT and we can't wait to go back to celebrate our first anniversary there!! -

I highly recommend them and we will be going back in the future for vacay!
