The face of wedding photography has very much changed in the past few years. Cameras have become much more sophisticated, and oh yes, they DON'T even have film inside of them for the most part. Some photographers are still choosing to shoot weddings in a more traditional way, with a lot of posed shots, while others are taking a much less invasive approach, and stepping back to photograph moments as they naturally occur. While the duties of the modern wedding photographer may seem much simpler than in times before the digital age, oftentimes this is not the case. You see, for some photographers, creative shooting is just the beginning; extensive editing done well can make images more moody through B&W conversions, or pop off of the print with stunning colors.
It is a truly exciting time to be a wedding photographer, especially for those who in times past, felt that they could not effectively express their creativity through their work. Today, many brides are searching for the photographer who can produce wedding photography uniquely suited to her taste and personality. Albums have taken the form of personalized, custom designed coffee-table books, instead of the traditional "slide some 4x6 inch prints into album sleeves" type albums.
While it is unclear what the future of wedding photography will look like, I feel like we are on the right track in making today’s wedding photography experience all about the bride & groom and telling the story of their wedding day, rather than simply collecting some images and handing the couple some prints.
