Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
A lot of manually intensive special techniques for film can be easily done digitally with photo-editing software. I employ a variety of these techniques from color toning, cross processing and other special editing techniques that I?ve developed.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience with a wide variety of lighting situation. As a professional photographer it is my job to be prepared for these variations.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I shoot exclusively digital for wedding work.

How many photographers do you work with?
I generally work solo but prefer to work with another shooter, usually female. Couples always have the option to hire a second shooter for additional coverage.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, the Agreement specifies that I will be the photographer that will cover the event, assuming that I am physically able to do so.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
No more than one wedding per day. Weddings are physically demanding events. I find it difficult to do more than two wedding per weekend so I do not book more than that.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I have second shooters that can become primary shooters and I also have a group of other photographers that shoot similar to my style that I can call upon in case I am unable to shoot a wedding.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Here is list of some the equipment that I bring with me for weddings Camera Canon 5D Canon 30D Canon 20D Lenses Canon 17-44mm 2.8 EFS Canon 24-70mm 2.8L EF Canon 28mm 1.8 EF Canon 50mm 1.4 EF Canon 70-200mm 2.8L EF Canon 85mm 1.8 EF Canon 100mm macro 2.8 EF Lights 1 x 580exII Canon Speedlite 2 x 550ex Canon Speedlite 1 x Lowell iD Video Light IT HP dv8000 17 inch Laptop 250 gig Western Digital external hard drive 10 x 4 gig Sandisk CF cards

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes. I always carry back-up equipment. I usually have 2 camera bodies on me and a third in the car.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
The hours charges are package specific. Usually 5-7 hours.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
The first hour is on me, after that point I charge $150 per hour overtime.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I try to keep breaks to a minimum so that I do not miss moments. I take them at natural intervals (like the dinner service at the reception) and even then I?m working while quickly eating.

Do you charge for travel?
If travel is over a 1 hour?s drive then a travel fee will apply. If more than 4 hours then a plane ticket is expected along with hotel stay and rental car for the stay.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Proofs are available 2-3 weeks after the event date.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Proofing is done via my website using a proofing gallery. The gallery divides the images into five areas: 1. Photographer?s Selects 2. Engagement 3. Pre-Ceremony 4. Ceremony & Formals 5. Reception Each sub-gallery has thumbnail to quickly scan the images and can be clicked on to give a larger image. The larger image can show a color, black and white and sepia version of the image and also show the crop for the different sized image dimensions.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
I do in-line proofing and that gallery stays up for a year after the wedding. Client are provided with a proof disc that is part of every package.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes. Clients are given an indefinite personal use license for reproducing the images. So long as they are not making money on the images or providing them to an entity for commercial use (with the exception of social networking site like MySpace or Facebook) they are free to use them as they please.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, within certain restrictions, mainly using them with business promotion purposes. Examples of this would be my website, advertisements, ?real wedding? articles or as an educational aid when instructing other photographers. Client privacy is very important to me so I do not sell images. I also make a good faith attempt to contact the client to see if they have any objections to the potential use of the images.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, I provide proof images files with each package. Note that these files are suitable for computer use and are not optimized for printing. A disk of the hi-resolution image files (suitable for printing) is available with album purchases or can be order individually on the proofing site for $1.99 each.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. A password protected online proofing comes with every package I offer

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer coffee table style art books and heirloom wedding albums. Specific vendors that I use will be discussed at the consultation.

When will the client get the final album?
The album process is dependent on client input so there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to this. I don?t want to rush my clients but I do want them to be able to get the albums they want in a timely fashion. Here is an outline of the process: 1. Client and I discuss the types of images that they want me to capture BEFORE the wedding, specifically shooting the kind of images that they want included in the album. Again, my shooting for the wedding is guided with the album design in mind so this is a very important step for me. 2. After the wedding, client will be able to view proof about 2-3 weeks after the wedding date. 3. Client will use the on-line proofing to make image selects for the album 4. Once I have the initial selections a PDF file of the first draft of the album design will be sent to the client for review within 30 days of receipt of the selects. The client is allowed 2 revisions to the design before it goes final 5. Once the album design is final, the album is sent off for printing. The delivery is completed once the album comes in and passes quality review. In total this could take 2-4 months depending on the variables outlined above.
