Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We offer color correcting, creative editing, B/W, sepia, selective coloring, DVD digital album creation, canvas fine art and special product options.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Just about anything that could be thrown at us with multi lighting, low lighting, multi color lighting, strobe, constant, hot lights (studio type), candlelight, yet we prefer ambient light as its most natural.

Is your media preference film or digital?
Digital & Film We prefer digital though as it helps save our clients in film and processing fees.

How many photographers do you work with?
There will usually be 2 photographers covering one wedding unless its a rather large event or our client requests more professionals to totally capture everything. I will mainly shoot with Gloria Avina for most all weddings as she and I shoot identically and work flawlessly together as a unit. There are 3 other freelance processionals our clients can choose from as well who are all highly respected.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
I am personally at all my shoots.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I will book up to 2 events in one weekend and NEVER more then ONE wedding in one day. Poetic Images book a limited amount of weddings per year to ensure total personal service and high quality in our images and products. Over booking causes stress on us and it will then show in our work...be it long times to finish projects or the general captures. Nobody wants rushed images right? We want you to know we provide you 100% of our talent and attention at all times.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Should an absolute emergency arise I do have experienced professionals to step in and cover my clients. Gloria Avina will always be first to be second in command and will always be accompanied with a second shooter. Our clients can see work from all the shooters and review work to select those they like in the event anything should happen to me personally.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes. I and my photographers have 2 - 3 camera bodies and backup lenses should anything malfunction.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
More of a base rate for a full day of shooting till 10pm. Our clients are then given the freedom to build their package the way they like from there. Here at Poetic Images we don't like limiting what you get...you make those limits yourself and we make it happen.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes. We will shoot past 10 pm for $350.00 per hour.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Very few as we do not like to miss a moment of the things that happen no matter how small they may seem at the time. Later, those moments we get funny looks for taking usually end up one of the most favorites in the end.

Do you charge for travel?
Yes. .75 per mile and 10.00 per hour drive time if the location is more then 1/2 hour drive.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Usually ready 2 - 4 weeks after the event. (Time differs due to number of images captured and prior projects in editing.) If more time is needed our clients are informed. Normally each photographer will capture 1000+ images and we are not big on batch editing as we feel each image deserves our full attention and not rushed. These are your memories and they are as important to us as they are to you. Album creation is slotted more time due to design, print, bind and shipping times frames.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Proofs are provided online in keyword protected viewing areas within our studio site. Clients and their friends and family can view and order right from their own home. Clients have the option of paper proofs, proof magazines and/or CD.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
Should the client opt for paper prints, proof magazine or CD those are theirs to keep as they are options they purchase.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes. Poetic Images does retain the copyrights to all images ever shot by us. Those rights will not be sold.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Poetic Images reserves the right to use any images shot by Shena Kaye & freelance photographers for marketing purposes. Any images shot by Shena Kaye may be entered into photo competitions or submitted to magazines.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Digital Neg can be purchased. As we understand most photographers today provide all images on CD or DVD with their packages, we have found that does not work for us as we tried that in the past. We were faced with clients having problems printing at other labs, not understanding how to print themselves at home or even not being able to get the images to work on their computers. We are unable to constantly travel to homes to train clients how to do everything with understanding how to crop an image and order online with other labs and how to save images to their computers. Over time we also found that in reality of things its not fair to the photographers. Look at it this way...do we walk into a restaurant and eat a gourmet meal and walk out with the head chefs recipe for the price of that one meal? chances are "no". That chef took time to cook the food and developed a special talent to make it an outstanding dish that you want to go back for again and again. Photography is very similar. Time is taken to learn the ever changing techniques of shooting and editing, shooting the events themselves, go through each image, edit them (sometimes extended editing is needed) and album pages designed and so on. This process is done over many hours. We have designed it that when you book you pay a base cost to have the professional capture your memories and include basic editing time for those images. Everything after that is a product of which you choose.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. Proofs are provided online in keyword protected viewing areas within our studio site. Proofs are held online for 1 (ONE) month. The client or a family member can extend that time for $10.00 per additional week.

What kind of albums do you offer?
Currently we offer digital albums set to music, traditional matted albums and professionally designed couture coffee table albums.

When will the client get the final album?
Usually 4 - 8 weeks. This allows for designing of pages, print, binding and shipping of album. Clients can now view their albums online before printing takes place to approve all designs. This feature even allows for you to virtually turn your pages so you can get the real feel of how your album will look. You can also share this feature with your friends and family so they can see your book and even order a copy for themselves. *Less time for traditional matted albums.
