About

Creative and Imaginative!

That's how past brides and grooms describe Paul & Cyndy Meyer.

As a married couple, they understand the ins and outs of wedding planning, having just gone through it themselves in October of 2005.  Paul's energy and Cyndy's attention to detail are the perfect match for wedding day photography.  While Paul is scaling a wall to get the great angle, Cyndy is making sure that the dress and veil are arranged "just so" for the final photograph.

As a two person team they are able to photograph both the bride and groom's preparations simultaneously, cover the ceremony from multiple angles, and capture those all-important wedding reception decorations prior to the arrival of the guests.

What our couples have told us...

"The pictures look absolutely stunning!  We've gotten so many compliments on them!"  - Julia (married July 2007)

"The photos are gorgeous and we will definitely recommend you to anyone looking for a photographer."  - Kelly (married June 2006)

"We were so impressed with your professionalism and the ability to capture many details of the day.  The pctures online are awesome."  - Julie (married December 2006)

"Thank you so much for the amazing photos of our wedding!  Our friends and family can't get enough of them."  - Lindsey (married January 2007)

"Every photo is amazing and shows another part of our day.  We were completely thrilled with everything..."  - Bethany (married July 2007) (Bethany has also posted an online WeddingWire review that can be seen in our listing)

"We want to thank you for sharing our special day and for our wonderful photos.  They are amazing.  We got a lot of compliments."  - Amy (married October 2007)

"The pictures are gorgeous and we (and our families) will treasure them always."  - Shana (married September 2007)

Paul & Cindy Meyer are two of my favorite photographers! Their work is excellent!! They are very easy to work with and professional at all times. They want "the best" for each and every wedding -- just like I do. that's why it is so easy to refer brides to them....I KNOW my brides will be in good hands and their memories will truly be those of a lifetime! Paul also does commercial photography. I had the opportunity to be one of his "subjects" for a quick magazine sitting, and was nervous. Paul put me at ease quickly, and made the time go very quickly. Goo people! Exellent work!!
Paul and Cyndy are truly amazing. Not only are they amazing to work with, but they take the most fabulous pictures that anyone could ever imagine. Their creativity and passion for photography shows in their work and I would recommend them to anyone.
I highly recommend hiring Paul and Cyndy for your photography. I have worked with them and I am extremely impressed with their talent and style. They work very hard and cover everything, to make sure that every angle, moment and detail (big and small) is captured. They are true artists. Paul and Cyndy work in perfect harmony to ensure perfect and truly breathtaking pictures.
Paul and Cyndi Meyer are not only incredibly talented at what they do, but they are personable and professional. It has been a pleasure getting to know them and their work.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Photojournalism, Portraiture

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Bring it on! Different lighting conditions are what wedding photography is all about. There are many challenges that occur throughout the day, but our experience with candle-light ceremonies, overcast rainy days, and full strong sun will ensure that you get photos you'll enjoy.

Is your media preference film or digital?
While we currently shoot 100% digital, we do still maintain our medium format and 35mm film cameras.

How many photographers do you work with?
Paul will always be the core member on the team photographing your day and he will be with you for 9 hours. Cyndy is normally the second photographer, handling 5 hours of photography. In the event of bigger weddings, we may bring along one or two of our assistants to cover additional areas.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, the company is named Paul Meyer Photography for a reason. You get the owner. In Paul's 20 years of photography and Cyndy's 5 years of photographing weddings, they have never missed an event.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
On those rare weekends when we have the opportunity to book two weddings, we will only do so if the weddings occur on different days, such as a Friday-Saturday. We will never book three weddings in the same weekend. Our workflow is such that we are still able to provide the same high level of quality to both weddings. Our contract states that Paul is with you for 9 hours on your wedding day. There isn't any opportunity to do a second wedding on the same day. Not that we want to! We commit fully to the couple of the day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Should Paul become unavailable for the day, Cyndy is fully ready to step in and be the lead photographer for the event. On the day of the wedding, both Paul & Cyndy drive separate vehicles to ensure that traffic problems or accidents will not stop your wedding photography. Both carry a full line of equipment, including two sets of backup equipment and lighting (and backup lighting!). We have also trained our associate photographers so that they can easily step in to replace Cyndy in case of an emergency. Either way, we offer a 100% money back guarantee if you are not happy with your photography.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Paul and Cyndy both individually carry a full set of camera equipment and a full set of backup equipment. They both have a lighting setup and a backup lighting setup, including extra batteries, flash bulbs, memory cards, tripods, light reflectors, and meters. While driving to the events, each takes a separate vehicle with their own gear to ensure that photo equipment is ready and available for use during any part of the day.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Absolutely. Currently we have 8 digital camera bodies (not including our film cameras), a myriad of lenses, multiple flashes, and tons of batteries to run them all. In the rare case of a malfunction, there is plenty of equipment to back things up.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
We charge a flat rate for 9 hours of coverage by Paul and 5 hours of coverage by Cyndy.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Overtime hours are available at a rate of $150/hour.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We do sit down during dinner time at the reception. Plus it's not very flattering to photograph the happy couple or guests while they are eating.

Do you charge for travel?
It depends. Within the Pittsburgh area there is no charge for travel. Outside of the area, such as New York, Hilton Head, etc., we do require an additional fee for out of town weddings. If you are unsure, please contact us for more information.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Our goal is to have the proofs online in a secure, password protected gallery no more than 2 weeks from your event. Once you choose your 300 proofs, the final touch ups and proof album delivery is done in less than a month.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
The first round of 900+ photos are presented in an online gallery available only with a password. We assign a unique password to the gallery to ensure the bride and groom are the first to see their wedding day pictures. After that, the couple chooses their top 300 photos and they are developed and assembled into a proof album. The photos are 4x6 images with no "proof" or other text on them, so the couple could literally frame them for gifts if they choose to do so.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The proofs are theirs to keep forever.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
While we retain ownership of the photos as their creators, we do have a copyright release available where the couple can legally make unlimited prints from the high resolution files. The digital files are sized to 8x12 at 320dpi and can easily go from wallet-sized to a 12x18 enlargement with little or no loss of quality. Anything larger than a 12x18, we suggest that the couple allow us to manufacture the portrait through our pro processing lab to ensure the print quality.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, we use real couples in our advertising and print/album competitions. We feel it's the best way to attract future clients by providing photos with real couples in real situations, rather than hiring models and setting up the perfect set and lighting. However, as a professional courtesy, our couples are notified when we submit photos for publishing consideration. Our couples love the way they look and are happy to see themselves in print.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
When the copyright release is purchased, we provide full 8x12 images at 320dpi. This dpi is the highest that consumer labs will handle at the time. Additionally, the couple gets three copies of the digital files: 2 storage DVD sets and 1 storage CD set.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. The couple's gallery is uploaded within 2 weeks of their wedding date for the couple to review first. The gallery is password protected to ensure that only the couple and the couple's family & friends are able to access the images.

What kind of albums do you offer?
The wedding album industry is changing so quickly with new products and formats that we've dedicated a separate company and website to cover this area. White Ribbon Design is the sister company to Paul Meyer Photography and run by Cyndy Meyer. For the latest in albums, please visit White Ribbon Design at www.BeautifulAlbums.com for more information.

When will the client get the final album?
Since the customer is fully involved with the album process, it really depends on the effort and dedication of the bride and groom.

Additional Questions and Answers

How early should I book a photographer?

As soon as possible is our answer!  While the bridal books tend to say you should book your photographer 6 months prior to the wedding, we find that many of our couples book us 12-24 months in advance.  We are dedicated to providing our couples with pristine service and therefore only do one wedding per Saturday.  October is THE busiest month of the year for weddings in SW Pennsylvania.  Book early to avoid disappointment.

Do you require a deposit to secure my date?

Yes, we require a signed contract and a $200 deposit to reserve your wedding date.  We want you to book with confidence so the deposit is fully refundable up to 30 days prior to your wedding if you find that you must cancel.

What percentage of your business is dedicated to wedding photography?

While we offer other services, such as boudoir, family, high school senior, and Splash the Dress sessions, our main business is wedding photography.  About 90 percent of our clients are couples just like you who are getting married.

Do you have another full-time job?

No.  Both Paul and Cyndy are 100% dedicated to Paul Meyer Photography & White Ribbon Design.  We want you to feel confident knowing that you are our primary client and will never take backseat to an outside job or business travel.

How can I get more information if I’m out of town?

Almost 1/3 of our brides are out-of-towners who return to Pittsburgh to get married.  Let’s face it, Pittsburgh is one of the most beautiful cities with spectacular churches on every corner.  It’s part of what makes our photography fun!  We’ve worked with brides who have planned weddings from as far away as Iraq and Nepal.  Just give us a call and we’ll gladly send you a presentation DVD with recent weddings and engagement sessions so you can see the quality and consistency of our work.

Tips and Advice

Want a great turnout at your wedding?

Book your wedding during the months of February, March, April & May for the best attendance!  Since there are no playoff or bowl football games and fewer weddings to compete with, your turnout will be much greater than having the tradition Saturday in June-October wedding.

What’s the best way to save money on my wedding?

The absolutely easiest and best way to save money across the board is to have your wedding on a Friday or Sunday.  We offer a $500 discount for these days and many other wedding vendors do as well.  While the typical argument is that not as many people will show up, this is normally not the case after talking with our brides who have scheduled a non-Saturday wedding.  They report that their RSVP "Yes" count was much higher than if they would have had the same wedding on a Saturday.

How can I reduce my stress on my wedding day?

While this flies in the face of tradition, one of the easiest ways to reduce your stress level is to see each other before the ceremony.  By taking your formal portraits prior to the ceremony, it will reduce the time needed for photography at the church between the ceremony and reception.  Many churches limit the time allowed to the bride & groom due to a mass service starting after the wedding ceremony.  Doing the formal shots beforehand ensures your makeup, hair and dress are at their peak appearance.

Seeing each other will also give you and your groom the chance to share a few private moments with no one around and whisper those meaningful words to each other that you can’t say during the ceremony.

For the groom, it gives him the opportunity to shout with joy, jump up and down, and see you at your very finest and freshest!  He’ll be able to show his emotions without having the whole church staring at him.  If you want to see some true enthusiasm from your groom, this is the way to go.

Wait!  Isn’t it bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other?!?

This superstition is a holdover from the pre-Biblical days when the groom had to work for the bride’s father and earn the right to marry the bride.

In the old days, the less-than-honest father of the bride would trick the groom into working extra years by substituting one of his uglier daughters for the bride at the time of the ceremony.  Since the "bride" was covered up, the groom was unwittingly marrying the wrong sister and didn’t find out until after the ceremony had been completed.  A little too late to call off the wedding at that time.  So the groom would go back to work for the father of the real bride for another set of years to earn the right to marry her again.

But if the groom spotted the false bride and called off the wedding, the bride’s father would be put out.  So that’s where the bad luck came from.  It was only bad for the shady father of the bride who was passing off the wrong sister and breaking his contract with the groom.

Seriously, those brides and grooms who saw each other before the ceremony have said it was the best thing they ever did.
