We recently had the pleasure of meeting and working with Rev. Theresa Gilberti from Inner Peace Ministries. From the moment you begin speaking with Theresa, there is that warm feeling that you have known her forever. She takes the time to learn about each couple, how they met and how they see their ceremony being created. Her gentle nature makes choosing an officiant an easy and enjoyable process. By working with Theresa, you will find her a completely genuine and caring individual that takes the time to ensure your wedding day is perfect and is a true reflection of your beliefs and love for one another.

HOW TO LOCATE AND CHOOSE A WEDDING OFFICIANT

By Reverend Theresa Gilberti

If you are having your wedding ceremony at a location other than a church (such as a reception site or outdoors), you will need the services of a Wedding Officiant to perform the ceremony.  A Wedding Officiant is an ordained minister who is authorized to perform ceremonies by their religious organization or church.

To locate a Wedding Officiant, you can utilize the internet and various wedding vendor sites, such as AllWedding.com, WedPlan.com, The Gathering Guide or WeddingWire.com.  You may also ask the Catering Manager or Wedding Coordinator at your reception site for a referral or recommendation.  Many keep lists of various vendors as a courtesy to brides and grooms.

Here are a few suggestions as to how to find and choose a Wedding Officiant that is compatible with your needs and wishes:

·        Is the Officiant willing to be interviewed to allow you to ask questions regarding their skills, experience and philosophy?

·        Can the Officiant provide you with references?

·        Are you more comfortable with a male or female Officiant?  Is this important to you?

·        How much interaction would you need with the Officiant in planning your ceremony?  Are they available to you with any questions or concerns you might have?

·        Consider the Officiant’s personality—do you want someone who is warm and friendly or would you prefer someone who is formal and restrained?

·        Is the Officiant willing to travel to your location, and if so, are there travel expenses involved?

In the end it comes down to your sense of comfort with the individual and the degree of interaction you want and need.  Trust your judgment!  Most of us are able to get a “feel” for a person as to whether they are a good fit for our needs and purpose.

One final piece of advice—book your Wedding Officiant as soon as you choose your reception site and time!  Once you have your reception site and an officiant, the remaining vendors or providers (flowers, music, decorations, cake, etc.) can be chosen in time.  It would be most unfortunate to have planned your entire wedding and then be scrambling to find an officiant who is available to perform your ceremony.  Don’t wait until the last minute to look for an officiant--plan ahead to have the best choice available to compliment your needs and preferences!
