Describe your DJ style:
I've been spinning weddings since 1988 and shortly thereafter started performing in night clubs. I've played everything from 50th Anniversaries to cutting edge hip hop spun club style (and yes I scratch too...) and everything in between. I can be as vocal as required by my clients or I can let the music speak for me. The main thing that consistent with all I do is packing the dancefloor...
What is your usual attire?
Shirt, tie and slacks. Tuxedos are reserved for those standing in the wedding or for DJs over the age of 50.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Never. If I don't have it, then I will buy it.
How many other DJs do you work with?
I work with Me, Myself and I! I've had a DJ partner before but I've learned that I'm way too picky for that. On rare occasions, I work with one other DJ but I always have an assistant for my weddings and private parties.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
That depends upon the party. Normally 3 hours but I can be persuaded otherwise.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
I would be hesitant to spin a wedding for someone whom I've never met in person. I've done it but it is VERY rare.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
I don't know if this can be considered ethnic but I was born and raised in New Orleans and thus I can spin a party New Orleans style complete with The Second Line and the Mardi Gras Mambo...
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes - about $15,000 worth of equipment. I believe in using only the best.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Only if requested.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I usually arrive an hour and a half before the event. I only need a half hour to set up but I like to be early. I do usually require a table be provided but I can bring on if that's not possible.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
No.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
That depends upon my client. Some clients want minimal interaction by the DJ while others require full hands-on style emceeing
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
No. I eat before or after the event.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
I don't take breaks.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes. I have one person I trust (mentioned in the answer above). The only way I won't be there is if I'm in the hospital.
What is your overtime rate?
For weddings, there is none. My time is unlimited and included with the package.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
If the venue is more than 50 miles, yes. The price depends upon the distance.
