About
Cristina Rivera is a Professional Working Freelance Make-Up Artist & Beauty Editor for “On the Avenue” Magazine. She specializes in Weddings, Photo Shoots, Fashion, Runway, Editorial, Television and Special Events. Her profession began as a life rehearsal as she immersed herself at a young age in everything that was available to her in the fashion and beauty industries.

Cristina initially began by freelancing at weddings and giving makeovers to her friends for “girls' night out”. Working closely with photographers in her area on photo shoots, her portfolio grew & word began to spread about her expertise and strong belief that “the needs of her client were of the utmost importance”. As a result, most of her job opportunities directly resulted from word of mouth - the best advertisement and a true tribute to the satisfaction she delivers. A strong following grew; thus, “Glowing Faces” was born.

Cristina has served as MUA for Designer Henry N. Jackson, Harlem Week fashion kick off, Super Models Unlimited Magazine, “On the Avenue” Magazine, photo shoots, weddings and most recently, “To Be A Star” reality show and NY Fashion Week 2009 to name a few. It is Cristina's passion and pleasure to keep up-to-date with the latest looks and newest innovations in makeup and skin care, so that she may incorporate new techniques into her work. She has a big heart and this translates over to the way she deals with her clients and the beauty she delivers.

Taking great pride in her work, and believing “you do best what you do most” Cristina relishes every opportunity to create new works of art; enhancing and beautifying the world one Glowing Face at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions for Beauty & Health
What beauty services do you offer?
Makeup

Do you offer trials and consultations?
Yes

Can you service a large group or bridal party?
Yes

Do you charge for trials?
Yes I do charge for trials. However, my rate is a discounted rate.

Do you travel to the client on the day of the event? If yes, is there a fee?
Yes, I do travel to the client on the day of the wedding and for the pre-wedding consultation. I only charge a fee if the location is more than 30 miles outside of zip code 12205.

How many customers can you serve at one time if the bride were to book her entire bridal party? Are there discounts for doing so?
I can realistically serve 8. I am sure to inquire as to how many people will have their make up done on the wedding day so that I can arrive with enough time to have everyone ready on time. I also have artists that I collaborate with if the need arises.

How far in advance should clients book your services?
I would suggest 2-3 months prior to your wedding. This way you can rest assured that your wedding day is secured.

What is your cancellation policy?
There is a 50% non-refundable deposit that is applied towards the total fee. If there is a cancellation, I require 30 days notice or the remaining balance will be billed to the client.

Tips and Advice

Wedding Day Make Up Tips by Cristina (Glowing Faces Make Up Artist)

1) Determine your skin type. Here’s how:
Dry Skin: Tends to be clear and sometimes a little stiff and “too small” for your face after washing. Your pores are small and your skin may peel when you're out in bad weather.
Oily Skin: Usually looks shiny and has visible pores. Your makeup doesn’t usually last all day and you’re prone to breakouts/black heads.
Combination Skin: This is the most common skin type. It usually consists of an oily T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) and the cheeks are dry.
Normal Skin: The lucky ones have this kind of skin type. It’s smooth, soft and perfectly balanced.

2) 6-12 Months prior to your wedding day: Begin a skin care regimine. This should consist of a proper make up remover, cleanser, toner, a moisturizer and exfoliator, all appropriate for your skin type. Keep in mind that as you age, your skin type will also change. The skin care regimine you had as a teenager, may not be appropriate for you now. Also, make sure your ingesting 8-12 glasses of water per day. It is so good for your skin and will help the overall look on your wedding day.

3) 4-5 Months Prior: Get ideas on hair styles and make up looks you would consider for your wedding day. If possible, have pictures set aside to show the professionals you hire. This will help them provide you with just the right look.

4) 2-3 Months Prior: Book your make up artist. Keep in mind that artists are booked pretty far in advance so you shouldn’t wait until the last minute to book your artist. Be prepared to put a deposit down so that you can ensure your wedding day is secured. If your artist doesn’t offer a contract, be sure to ask for one. Safe guard your peace of mind by having things in writing and keeping a copy for yourself.

5) 3-4 Weeks Prior: Meet with your MUA (make up artist) to discuss and test the make up for your day. This is an essential process. The last thing you want is to have the MUA do your make up on your wedding day only to decide that you hate what they’ve done and have all of your pictures taken looking that way. If brides maids or mothers of the bride/groom are also having their make up done for the big day, it’s a good idea that they also have a pre-wedding consultation.
(some brides choose to have this consultation during the day with their brides maids, and they wear the make up out that night for a “night on the town”).
*most MUA’s have a discounted rate for Pre-Wedding Consultations, be sure to ask*

6) 1-2 Weeks Prior: Confirm your appointment. Be sure that time, place and # of women getting their make up done is discussed. Also, be sure that both each of you has contact information so that you can reach each other if the need arises.
