Tips and Advice
Know your Event’s Carbon Footprint
*What is a “Carbon Footprint”?
Your “carbon footprint” represents the sum total of all the greenhouse gases you
personally are responsible for putting in the atmosphere. The term carbon footprint is
named after carbon dioxide, the principal cause of global warming.
Whenever you use energy created from fossil fuels such as oil or coal, you’re generating
carbon emissions. Common activities that add to your carbon footprint include:
∞ Driving
∞ Flying
∞ Home heating and cooling
∞ Electricity use
The products you buy also contribute to your carbon footprint, because energy was
required to create and transport them.
*How do I calculate my events Carbon Footprint?
The wedding emissions calculator on terrapass.com combines estimation techniques from
the driving and flight calculators, as well as some additional data regarding the typical
energy use in hotels and conference halls, to come up with a total estimate for carbon
dioxide emissions from your event. http://www.terrapass.com/wedding/
*What’s included in my events Carbon Footprint
Calculation?
The wedding calculator takes into account four different sources of emissions:
∞ Airline emissions from guest travel.
For most weddings, this is by far the most important category of emissions. Planes
burn a lot of fuel, and these days most weddings bring together people from all
over the country and the world.
∞ Automobile emissions from guest travel.
Cars aren't likely to be a huge source of greenhouse gas emissions for your
wedding, but if you have a lot of local guests, they will collectively burn a modest
amount of gasoline getting to the event.
∞ Energy use in hotel rooms.
Hot showers, lighting, and air conditioning all require electricity. For large
weddings, this energy use can add up.
∞ Energy use for the wedding itself.
The DJ, the caterer, temperature control, lighting – whether you have your
wedding on the beach or in a banquet hall, the event itself requires some energy.
Truth be told, the amount of emissions from the event itself is small – about one
ton of CO2 or less – so we just add a little to the total to cover it.

What Can I do to help neutralize my events Carbon Footprint?
Flowers Celebrate the Season
∞ There’s nothing more posh than supporting local farmers.
∞ Utilize locally grown seasonal flowers!
Go Organic
∞ Organic flowers are beautiful as well as earth friendly.
∞ Non-organic flowers are treated with harmful pesticides which seep into ground
water, as well as being toxic to those handling them.
Pay if Forward
∞ If you enjoyed your gorgeous wedding flowers, so will others!
∞ Reception centerpieces will often remain quite beautiful for up to two weeks.
∞ Donate them to a local hospital, senior citizen home, or to family and/or friends.
Be Tree FREE
∞ At Eco-Posh we know how all important it is to have a chic invitation, we also
know that there are ways to have both chic and eco-friendly.
∞ Utilize tree free paper products for your invitations, they are a gorgeous
substitute and will provide texture and style that your guest won’t be expecting.
∞ Products like bamboo and organic cotton are highly sustainable and beautiful too!
These are Recycled?
∞ That’s what your guest will be saying in unbelief as they open your 30% to 100%
Recycled paper invites.
∞ Their recycled, their beautiful, their Eco-Posh!
