Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
Describe your DJ style:
Some of my specialties are: Glam, 80s, Postpunk, Pop, Retro, Indie Rock, Britpop, Shoegaze, & Synthpop. In addition to these genres, I commonly sprinkle in contemporary hits, Classic Rock, Disco, Motown, R&B, and Hip-Hop.

What is your usual attire?
I always work in shirt and tie.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
If it is just a few tracks, I don't mind picking them up. Frankly, from my experience, the wedding couple has always been very happy to provide any specific tracks that they'd like to hear that were not in my collection.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
I can accommodate nearly any request, just ask & I'm sure we can work something out.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely. I have DJed weddings where there has been an in-person interview process, and weddings that did not involve an in-person meeting. It is completely up to the couple.

Do you bring your own equipment?
Absolutely. My system is completely mobile, all I require is electrical outlets and a small working surface.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I like to set up 2 or 3 hours before "showtime", as long as the venue allows this. The minimum setup time needed is 1 hour. I do ask for a small working space of 2'x3'.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
No.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I have a live mic at all times, and commonly do announcements as requested in advance by the couple. My mic is also available at all times for toasts, and special announcements.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
No I don't. Typically, I might have a plate with me at my workstation, but I am usually working at the same time. I do not require a special "sit down" meal time.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Non-applicable. My breaks are never longer than a minute or two.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I do. I have a network of other DJs that work in a similar style that are willing to substitute in place of me. (This has never been required, though)

What is your overtime rate?
$100 per hour for overtime.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
If the wedding takes place in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey or Massachusetts, I do not charge for transportation. Please contact me if your event takes place outside these areas.

Tips and Advice
My philosophy in regards to weddings is a collaborative one. While most couples seek me out because they are fond of the specific genres I specialize in, I am always willing to collaborate with the couple in whatever sense they see fit. You can leave most of it up to me, or you can have whatever creative input you like. I am here to make your reception a blast, so let's work together to make it happen!
