Thank you for your interest in Big Daddy Rhythm & the Heavyweights. There’s no better choice for the perfect reception. Big Daddy Rhythm is a 6-piece variety band with horns and multiple lead vocalists--both male and female.  The combined experience of the band members totals well over a thousand wedding receptions.

If you’d like the evening to start out easy, the band can provide a little pre-recorded or instrumental music before the introduction of the bridal party. Vincent is the "official announcer" of the band. With 10+ years of radio experience, his expert delivery and distinctive, powerful voice will make the wedding party feel as if they’re being presented as royalty. But, when it’s time to cut loose, the band turns the event into a sho’ nuff party!

Big Daddy Rhythm & the Heavyweights’ repertoire will surely please all your guests. And, more songs are constantly being added. The timeless music of the ’60s and ’70s, the Motown, the classic soul, blues, funky ’70s and ’80s stuff, etc. are all staples of the band’s show. There’s just a variety of good party music. If there’s any music you’d like to hear that’s not represented in the song list, it can be played on CD during the band’s break.

We’re often asked about beach and shag music. Well, BDR features a former member of The Coastline Band, one of the most popular and exciting beach music/party bands in the southeast of the last 15 years! Vincent E. McDougald, the founder of both BDR and Coastline. During the Coastline years, Vince sang "It’s Gonna Rain" which was voted Beach Music Song of the Year in 1999. Oh, yes...they know beach music!

The level of entertainment you’ll get with Big Daddy Rhythm is what makes this band different from the others and makes your reception fun! They don’t just put on a show. The band really connects with your guests and gets them all up dancing. BDR does many of the same things every other band does at a reception, but in ways that you’ll never forget. Interaction with the audience and the wedding party makes receptions with Big Daddy Rhythm most memorable. The traditions of tossing the bouquet and garter are usually kind of fun. When Big Daddy Rhythm does a reception, they’re a BLAST! Suffice it to say that you should make sure the videographer doesn’t leave before this part of the reception. If you like a live horn section (gotta have live horns to do this music right), Big Daddy Rhythm & the Heavyweights’ horn section includes trumpet, trombone, and sax...there’s even a harmonica in there sometimes! The multi-talented members of the band constantly switch instruments and lead vocalists--both male and female--throughout the show. Audiences find the trading of instruments and vocal duties highly entertaining.

In addition to the main performance, Big Daddy Rhythm offers other services for your event. Of course, the PA system the band uses is available to the client for announcements, background music, etc. But, for instances where a separate sound system is necessary—for example, a wedding ceremony on the east lawn with a reception on the west—we can provide whatever is needed for the situation.

During cocktails or dinner, live jazz adds a nice touch to the evening. The band can also provide music for wedding ceremonies. BDR has the ability to cover a wide variety of styles popular for weddings: classical, country, jazz, R&B, gospel, and other styles from both male and female vocalists. There are several instrumentation options, as well: keyboard/piano/organ, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, acoustic guitar, and acoustic bass (which sounds really nice in a duet with guitar).
