About Us

You want artistic and creative wedding photojournalism. You want your unique day captured from start to finish with surprising and emotional photos. And you want an empathetic, ebullient, flexible, funny and friendly photographer with you taking care of those details. That's me. Or so say my clients (please read my reviews) And also judge for yourself - take a look at my website.

I find singular angles, take motion-filled and unique photographs chronicling your most important day. AMP takes advantage of the digital age of photography by offering you all of your images with full reproduction rights, encouraging you to take advantage of self-produced media.  I am based in the Washington DC metro area and will travel anywhere.

MORE ABOUT ANDREW:

It was fate. After training my ears for over 20 years, my eyes had to take over. I’d been using them all along, but my love affair with photography had to win. And it did - in 2005 when I formed my wedding photography business on the strength of a boisterous Greek Orthodox wedding in Cleveland, OH.

You see, I worked for NPR and NPR stations for 20 years, producing, managing and developing sounds and ideas from San Francisco to Ann Arbor to right here in Washington DC.  But the siren-song of imagery was too strong and I followed.

Connie & Chris asked me to shoot their wedding with one week’s notice (!) and I agreed. Nervous, excited and focused, I developed my documentary-style of photography right there on that hot August day. And I fell in love.  Since that day, I have photographed over 300 weddings - from the basement of a Marion, OH church to a 14th century Borgia Palace in Gandia, Spain. I’ve shot an intimate modern Jewish wedding on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and a 600 guest Indian wedding in Chicago. I’ve captured a Sudanese Muslim wedding in Washington, numerous same-sex weddings, a backyard party that turned into a wedding (yes - that happened), and hundreds of joyous weddings in churches, synagogues and outdoor settings since. I even captured Steph and Mau’s wedding at the foot of an active volcano in Costa Rica that erupted mid-ceremony!

The great thing about every single one of those weddings is that each one of them was unique. Each one of those celebrations was driven by the singularity of the couple and their individuality. And my style - defined by a casual yet observant looseness - was key in allowing them to be captured exactly who they were as people. No cheesy poses here.   As a matter of fact, my training in radio honed my story telling skills such that translating that skill into the visual medium makes my style that much more compelling. The beauty and power of a “sense of place” is what drives my style (as well as an intimate relationship with my photo gear).

I always tell new couples that wedding photography is 50% photography and 50% persona (who I am as a person) - and that’s what all of my clients tell me afterward - that they feel like I am a close friend, allowing them to be completely comfortable and stress-free. And that brings out their true personality, which in turn makes for the best photos.

And their feedback has given me the humble honor of having won a bunch of awards, including WeddingWire’s highest honor - the Bride’s Choice award. And other photographer’s have recognized my work too, by giving me consecutive Editor’s Choice awards at the image publishing site Two Bright Lights.

You might have seen some of my work on CNN, in Popular Photography, on the Huffington Post, or on wedding blogs Capitol Romance, Done Brilliantly, BridesView, Love Toast Blog or dozens of others.

I am a native East Coaster - raised in Connecticut, schooled at Wilkes College in Pennsylvania with a 1989 Bachelor of Arts, and then my aforementioned NPR career. My wife, 2 big red dogs and I live in Maryland, just outside of DC. When I’m not shooting weddings (which I’ve decided is my primary form of photography), I am drumming, running, enjoying baseball and Formula 1 racing, and learning to play guitar. I am a fan of film, comedy and a bit of a music freak.

Andrew was amazing on the day of my wedding - he was exactly on time, started right away, and we barely noticed he was there when taking candid shots. He had a great personality (which is a MUST for someone you are spending the entire day with!) and we were so happy we had picked him. I'm not big on huge posed photos and when I saw his portfolio I knew he was the one for us. We were completely comfortable with him - he even took charge when our bus driver got lost, and mingled around with our guests who all raved about him. Andrew was the best part of our day and I couldn't have been happier to spend my wedding day with him! Awesome photographer, awesome guy - love him.

Andrew Morrell has a unique style and perspective of photography that truly captures the beauty, emotion and splendor of the wedding day. I worked with Andrew on a coastal Maine wedding. With a hurricane on the horizon, travel was a nightmare; but Andrew took the extra steps to insure he arrived in Maine with plenty of time to spare. I could see Andrew put the bride and groom at ease to allow their personalities and emotions shine through. As a wedding planner, I found Andrew a pleasure to work with, in following direction and helping along the overall flow of the day. I would love the opportunity to work with Andrew again.
