"You better invite me..."

How many of you have heard "You better invite me to your wedding"? I have someone who I haven't talked to in a while and said those words to me. How many of you have heard "You better invite me to your wedding"? I have someone who I haven't talked to in a while and said those words to me. She is a friend (but not a close friend) and I did end up inviting her. But the fact she said that to me and is constantly offering unsolicited wedding advice is leaving a sour taste of regret in my mouth. Just a rant as there is not much I can do now...would love to hear anybody else's stories!

That would be the fastest way to get OFF my guest list.

Oh, I forgot! A girl pulled up pictures of dresses for her daughter to wear as a flower girl but was kind enough to "let us pick which one of those dresses we liked."

A few issues here: the kid is a major brat, we're not having a single kid anywhere near the wedding that day, the parents are on the bottom of tier 5 of the invite list. Tier 5 for us is if 80% of our initial list can't make it. Instead if straight up saying they weren't invited to their face, we make attempts at saying things like we don't plan on having flower girls and it's a very small wedding but the mother takes it upon herself to dish out multiple reasons as to why it is horrible etiquette to not have the kids in the bridal party. Even if we were to somehow magically have flower girls the girls daughter would have like 12 competitors (our nieces, God children, kids we adore) in front of her so it wouldn't happen in any senario.

They know better. We do have a friend that has made it clear she would love an invite. However, we find it amusing and don't feel any pressure to invite her. Her feelings wouldn't be hurt if we didn't invite her, because she understands it'll be a small wedding.

When we went to do our food tasting my mother had tagged us all at the venue. I had cousins coming left and right saying, " I better get my invite," I ignored every single one of them because we do not even speak to each other on a regular basis. I know there is going to be some shit stemming from this but I could careless!!!

I haven't had that with the wedding yet, but FH's female friends that I barely know were at a restaurant that I was at the other day. I said hi and everything but they said they can't wait for my shower. I was like uh what? Did you invite me to your shower? No. Why? Because we're not really friends. So.. haha

@Michelle - I also encountered this situation where a family friend called in asking for her grandson to be a part of the wedding party but my FH's nephew is already the ring bearer. The family and grandson are invited to the wedding so we may just find an odd job where the grandson can carry the bible (ceremony is at a church) or hand out programs. I don't want to have to cave into this request cuz we think that the family friend wants the grandson's name to be included in our invitations along with the list of the wedding party, but we are not doing that anyway. Honestly if you are still inviting them, you must let them know that the spot for your flower girls are taken and hopefully they will get the hint Smiley winking

I had a coworker ask point blank if I was going to invite her. This was while we were having a conversation about how I was leaving that job and less than a month after I had gotten engaged. Even if I had finalized a guest list, she wouldn't have been on it, as we never spoke outside of work. I think I got lunch with her once. AND she had just gotten married the previous summer and didn't invite any coworkers. I was stunned, but just said, I think we're keeping it a pretty small guest list, just family and very close friends.

I wonder why people don't understand why they are pressuring us for an invite, as if there is something wrong why I'm not inviting you Smiley atonished

    @NenaBear - love this: "We're cool. That doesn't mean we're friends."

I had the opposite happen. FH's friend is "talking" to this girl and we have since gotten close. She came over one night when we were doing a double date and brought me bride wine glass as a gift! It was so nice. She was asking me all about the wedding and I told her that I need her address for the STD's and she was in shock she was invited.

From the moment we announced we were engaged on social media, people were in the comments "Congratulations, I'll be waiting for my invite to the wedding." Huh? Do we speak outside of social media? No? Oh. Ok.

The person who said this to me keeps texting me saying "I can't wait to dance at your wedding" and constantly commenting on my fb (which I have now blocked her from). Now that I think of it, I have no idea where to seat her since she doesn't know any of my friends or family...More regret kicking in...

Thankfully the only people who have done this have been really close family. I was like uhhh why wouldn't you be invited?? Granted one of them was my 18 year old male cousin who doesn't know any details about weddings, but still lol

We had 2 people say this to us and both happen to be on our guest list already. Funny thing is neither rsvp for the wedding or showed.

I heard only one variation of that. My uncle and I are 5 years a part, so I grew up with him and his best friend. While they're not super close anymore, I still see the best friend multiple times a year and he comes to Christmas at our house when he's in town. He asked if he was invited. He's truthfully on the back up list if I have room though!

One of cousin's (that I've met only once when I was a kid) messaged me on FB that she was coming to the wedding. I just replied with a smiley face.

My BEST FRIEND from high school, who betrayed me big time when I was 20- we maintained a much cooler relationship in my early 20s before he completely ghosted on me about 4 years ago. He suddenly popped back to my life and started sucking up on all forms of social media the instant I got engaged and talking about how excited he is for my wedding.

FH and I have moved a lot, so there are plenty on the guest list that we haven't seen in person in 5-10 years, so it feels a little petty to exclude that friend on principle :-/

I think the worst occurred after our wedding. DH and I had a mutual coworker that we used to be close with, but we haven't seen or spoken to in around 3.5 years, with the exception of bumping into her at a baby shower a few months before the wedding. She posted a cryptic FB status a few days after the wedding about having fake friends and then I received an angry text message from her a few minutes later about how she couldn't believe she wasn't invited to our wedding and it hurt her to see that we had other mutual coworkers (whom we see at least once a month still) post pictures on Instagram and Facebook from our wedding. This was from the same girl though who felt it appropriate to text DH after she got engaged to tell him that we wouldn't be invited to her upcoming wedding because things were more expensive than she anticipated so will be sticking to family and close friends only. That was the first and last time we'd heard from her after seeing her at the baby shower, and it was the only communication we'd had with her up until our wedding.

FH had an old friend's mom say this. Ummm he hasn't seen either of you in years. He actually thought about inviting them and reached out on facebook to catch up, and she never responded. So you can't even message back real quick to say hi but you want an invite? Nice try.
