"You better invite me..."

How many of you have heard "You better invite me to your wedding"? I have someone who I haven't talked to in a while and said those words to me. She is a friend (but not a close friend) and I did end up inviting her. But the fact she said that to me and is constantly offering unsolicited wedding...

She is a friend (but not a close friend) and I did end up inviting her. But the fact she said that to me and is constantly offering unsolicited wedding advice is leaving a sour taste of regret in my mouth. Just a rant as there is not much I can do now...would love to hear anybody else's stories!

    ML.... her exact words were " I KNOW you're gonna have your babies as your flower girls. I KNOW you're not gonna put your nieces before them." When I told her I was sorry, that my nieces were going to be my FG's, she said, "They are gonna cry when I tell them." Ugh. Made me feel awful.

    @Michelle - oh goodness Smiley sad It's so much pressure on you and the fact that she is making you feel bad is not fair and uncalled for! My 9 yr old niece asked me directly if she could be the FG but politely told her that we already had someone and said "ok" and moved on lol I was thankful and surprised by her maturity!

    @minnemiska - agreed!

    I'm not getting the "you better invite me" but more like "if you want me to come, you better invite these 6 other people." Equally annoying.

    Some of my students jokingly. Some of them just turned 21 so they were like "our invitations must have gotten lost in the mail"

    @Michelle yes! We need to keep the attendee list to a certain number so we can comfortably afford it so we worked on the guestlist almost immediately after we got engaged. Pretty much tier 1 gets stds, tier 2 would most likely get invites but we wouldn't finalize that till we are closer till the invites. 3 and below are long shots but that could change in the next year, obviously. Tier 4 and 5 are primarily those we would normally feel obligated to invite but have no real relationship with. If budget and the space (we wanted a small barn from the start) wasn't an issue then all tiers would probably be invited.

    I forgot to set the audience to "wedding" on a Facebook post. This girl I hardly know was like "I'll stop by and watch if I can".

    UHM. No...because it's out of state, you're not invited, and our wedding is not a circus show for you to come "watch".

    ANYWAY, I never talk about it with people who aren't involved and I (usually) set the audience on FB to guests only.

    I had my old boss do this! She asked if we set and date and when I said we were shooting for May she said "Cool hope I get an invite"

    Sooooooo awkward! I just said yea we have a lot to figure out still! Ugh. I did think about it because I have known her for 16+ years (aside from working together for 8 or 9) but I'm not even inviting anyone that I currently work with! And she's also my ex's mom, I feel that adds to the awkward factor.

    This happened to me all the time and became so uncomfortable! I also had ex's questioning where their invites were. Um nah bro!

    Years and years ago I was engaged, very publicly, to my childhood sweetheart. We expected to have a pretty large wedding and had invited upwards of 250 people. Well about 3 months before the wedding he called it off, it was a pretty public breakup and EVERYONE knew. Well fast forward to like a year and a half later I am in Target and run into an old family friend who proceeds to berate me for not being invited to the wedding??? All I could think was if you weren't close enough to me to even know the wedding DIDN'T HAPPEN how in the world did you expect an invite??? That happened to be one of the more awkward conversations of my life.

    This time I'm keeping things pretty close to the vest lol.

    I've had a few people say this to me. I think if you have to make a comment like that, or have to ask me if you're invited, then we probably aren't close enough for you to come to my wedding anyway.

    We learned that FH's aunt, who I don't think he's ever had any relationship with at all, was "planning her road trip to Quebec after the wedding" (we live in Maine) and we were pretty shocked - we had JUST set the date and asked his parents not to say anything. So...guess she's coming.
