Because I Said So
Super September 2010

Yay or nay on the bathroom box, for guests?

Because I Said So, on July 30, 2010 at 12:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

I've been to a ton of weddings and at 3 or 4, I've seen the decorative supply box in the ladies' room with lotion, mints, hair ties, etc. It's a nice touch but I don't know whether to do it at my own wedding, should I bother? I could grab everything from the dollar store for about $15, that's not going to break the bank or anything. I guess I answered my own question! I'd just like to know how many brides are providing this and how many as guests think it's cool or not.

I think it's a nice touch, but I probably won't do it. I've been to many relatively high-budget weddings, and I've never seen one. I think it's one of those things that people notice if it's there, but they'd never think about it if it wasn't there.

As a guest, I could care less for it. Sorry, but it's the truth. And for alot of treasons you stated- it's Dollar store stuff that probably pretty icky. Are you going to use what's left?

I could see having mints, but most lotion addicts will have their own.

I think I may Ive never heard of it but its sounds like a good idea. Like you said its not going to break the bank and it would blow to have a friend need to leave because of a spur of the moment visit from mother nature

I think we're going to do something like this... not sure what all I'll put in it (don't want it to get too pricey) but I want to make sure we have that kind of stuff on hand for me and my girls, and rather than having a "private" stash we have to keep somewhere, I'll just do the basket in the ladies room...

We did bathroom baskets, for both the women's and mens rooms. All of the supplies got used, and most were completely gone. We included items like tylenol, pepto, mints, deodorant, tampons, band aids, cough drops, hair ties, sewing kits, etc. Even if it was not used, I bought stuff that we would use at home anyhow, so nothing was wasted. Several people actually thanked me for providing the things for them.

I'm still considering it, but I suspect that even if I were to do it, my guests would just assume it was standard for the v

@Clytie - You could always put a little note on it that makes it more personal so it doesn't look like the venue did it. Someone posted this on here before:

"So happy you're here to share in our special day!

But should something happen to go astray,

Please help yourself to the contents within,

Hair spray, hand lotion, gum and even a hair pin,

Use only what you need and leave the rest,

It may be useful to another guest.

So repair the damage that may have been done,

Then go back out and have some fun!

Hugs & Kisses from the new Mr & Mrs!"

I probably will but only if I get the venue that I am drooling over. Since it will be a historic plantation, I would think it would add to the overall feeling of the venue.

I had thought about bringing those kinds of things in our "wedding day kit" but hadn't thought about putting it in the bathroom. I might have to consider it.

I've never been to a wedding where they had a designated basket of items. But I think it's a good idea. I can't really fanthom what you'd put in the men's bathroom other then maybe tylenol or pepto, but for the women I can see having feminine napkins and tampons on hand with some pain relivers, heart burn meds, etc. I am still debating, my ceremony and reception are only scheduled to last 5 hours so I can't see my items being used & I don't use a lot of those items at home. Of course we'll have hairspray and such for myself and my girls... and I am sure a majority of that will remain in the bathroom. @ my cousin's wedding, his wife and her 10(i think) BMs had their stuff scattered in the bathroom that was the guest bathroom, too... so you got to see their thongs hanging, their makeup scattered and their curling irons in the sink. I literally had to clean out the sink to wash my hands when I finally decided I had to go and couldn't wait.

Ok...how do you do this if your toilets are portajohns? (Yeah, we're classy like that...it's a vineyard, there's only one inside bathroom and two portajohns.)

I'm not doing them because the bathrooms we'd be putting them in are on the main floor of the hotel and hotel guests who aren't even at our wedding would have access to them.

Good idea if bathroom are limited to your guests but in a public restroom like almost Mrs. P mentioned it might get used up by uninvited hotel guests, also I would check with the hotel they might already have a supply basket
