WR: Nuts & Chocolate on Each Table - Need Feedback

Jillian, on June 16, 2011 at 12:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

My venue is allowing us (by some grace of God) to bring in chocolate/candy and nuts to put on all of our tables during the reception. Right now, I'm expecting to have about 15 +/- total tables that will seat 10 people. Do you have any ideas of what I can use for the bowls? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this as once the wedding is over I'll be stuck with 30 bowls!

I was thinking Dollartree, but I'm not sure the ones they have will be big enough for a table of 10 people. I'd like them to be somewhat nice and not just plastic ones...any ideas? I was going to get the bulk candy/chocolate and nuts from Sam's Club, so I have that part covered.

I would try Goodwill, flea markets, garage sales, etc and have them not match. People will be too busy eyeing the candy to care.

I was thinking possibly having all the bowls be different... Hmm, that's an idea.

Are you having kids at your wedding? It makes a big difference. Kids will devour the nuts and chocolate. Adults will have a couple and call it good.

Dollartree has some covered cut glass candy dishes, some heart and star shaped glass bowls and some regular cereal-bowl sized cut glass bowls. I think they will be fine for 10 people per table.

Also, have you considered wine/water goblets?

There will only be a handful of children at the reception. I think I'm going to take a ride over there today to see what their glass cereal bowls look like - I'm not looking for something fancy just serving a purpose and to be glass. Thanks for the information ladies Smiley smile

Just make sure none of your guests are severely allergic to nuts! I think even the fancy disposable cerverware at smarty had a party will do!

Are you going to have something else? Alot of people are allergic to nuts and even chocolate. If you have guests who are, they will most likely be upset they cannot enjoy them. Just a suggestion

Yes, as a person who's EXTREMELY allergic to peanuts, I'd advise at least sticking to cinnamon pecans or smoked almonds. Even peanut dust/odor in the air can send some folks to the ER.

If you want an eclectic selection of bowls, have you considered hitting up antique/junk shops in your area? It DOES take some time, but it's a lot of fun to look for stuff like that.

Also consider joining your local chapter of Freecycle (it's a Yahoo group). You post what you want to receive or get rid of, and arrange pickup by email. It's local and FREE! That's how I got glass vases for my centerpieces. They're beautiful and cost only the gas to drive about 2 miles Smiley xd

I'd go with cheap and easy. Look at the dollar stores. IN addition, alot of grocery stores/walmart/target have cute bowls for entertaining now that's it's summer. I don't know what your wedding colors are, but there are greens/teal stuff out there like crazy right now! They are plastic, but look nice. Also makes it easier to transport.

But I would make sure that none of your guests are allergic to nuts... because that would be disasterous!
