Would you wear your Mother Wedding Dress or Buy a New One?

Tasha, on April 14, 2022 at 2:24 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 14

My Mother got Married in 2018 so we went shopping with her to get her wedding dress she said at the time she want Me to wear her dress when I get married. I want to honor her wishes but also I am not wanting to wear a white grown. I am in limbo about this, any suggestions.

Could you take some bridal pictures in it and then change? or depending on how formal it is, wear it for the rehearsal? You could wear it as either ceremony OR reception dress and have a different one as well. You could also change into it for the last half of the reception?

It was nice of her to offer, but wedding gowns are so personal. If it's not your taste, you absolutely do NOT have to say yes. What you wear at your wedding is your decision and no one else's. Hopefully she was just offering as a sentimental gesture, and is not doing it as a vanity/control thing.

Wonderful ideas ! i don't think you have to wear it for the entire time either for anything, and it honestly doesn't seem like a hard request to fulfill if you wish to fulfill. PP has wonderful suggestions for what you can do

I agree with this. It’s a nice gesture to offer but rarely happens in real life because tastes are so different and that needs to be respected on both sides. Follow your gut instinct.

I wore my mother's dress for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Maybe there is some event or part of the wedding process where you could wear her dress? It really depends on if the dress already fits you and it's style. Perhaps you could wear it in a bridal portrait?

I would not recommend you sacrificing your dream of a non-white wedding dress but you can still try and be creative and open minded with your mom's request.

If she doesn't want it back, there are also businesses and seamstresses who can take a dress and make it into a robe that you could get ready in on your wedding day

Also there are charities listed online that accept wedding dresses to be given to brides in various situations where they otherwise could not afford to buy their own.

I probably would except she's really short and is not my size. I am wearing her veil though.
