Would you purchase your own domain name for your wedding website?

After reading this article...I don't think it would hurt to buy your own dot com name...

Hmm..it would be a nice site for freinds and family to visit after the wedding, you can update it with photos of your kids and stuff.

I bought one because I didn't like the length or look of the ones that were provided by ww or the knot etc.... It cost us $1 a month from godaddy.com. I recommend it. It looks a lot more legit.

I really didn't think that many people had seen my wedding website. Turns out when I went to see how many people had visited, it was over 850. Honestly I was shocked.

Yeah the free domains are terribly long! I'm thinking about buying a easy-to-remember domain. I probably won't use either of our names in the domain though.

Let me rephrase that... it had over 850 hits. For all I know I could have put half of those on there when I was building the site and looking at it to make sure it looked right. lmao.

@ Unique I hear ya ma but after reading the article it gets me to thinking...what if... lol

My family is not in Maryland but we will be getting married here (docked cruise, hotel, etc). The fam lives in NY, VA and NC. In my case being able to have my planner or my Matron OH tell someone to "go to ______.com" would save everyone from most drama.

My domain and hosting for Tyland Travel is only $10/yr thru Freehostia.

It's totally up to you and your FH but for thousands of years people had no wedding websites...and people were still able to show up. We aren't planning on making a site bc it's time consuming and people will still call us for info.

That's true Jlam...we have become so dependent on technology. But in our case with everyone coming in from OOT...it couldn't hurt.

I know what you are saying. Smiley smile Most of ours are OOT-- 60 out of 115 people are flying in from Ohio. But I don't think many of them would actually even check it. It all depends on your guests.

We bought our own domain name to make it easier for guests to remember. We used our website address on our STDs, and took advantage of the online RSVP tool, so it looked a lot better on the STDs and invites to have the shorter website address. We also created a link on our site for a shared photo album through shutterfly so guests can view our pics and share their own. Totally worth the $30.

Having your own domain name doesn't cost that much, registering the name cost roughly $8-$10 a year then hosting would probably be $3 to $10 a month.

And think about this too, after the wedding you could convert your website into a running blog detailing your journey as newly weds.

I've already built my website here on WW and I love the way it has turned out. I wouldn't pay for a domain name, as WW lets you choose a custom name anyway. (ie www.weddingwire.com/bridesnameandgroomsname)
