religion"called the UDV (União do Vegetal, ) pretty much a rubber farmer (gabriel) found jesus and jesus told them to drink this tea so everyone can get high which will make them closer to god: they have dress code, males are leaders only, when you drink the psychedelic tea if you throw up its evil leaving the body (congrats!) ceremonies are at night. they hang pictures of "master Gabriel" everywhere from their living room to cars.

I do not like anything about the UDV, its very cult like to me, and I do not believe taking drugs will bring you closer to God, I dont like some mans pictures on the wall....

His cousin is getting married at the church in November, hes going to our wedding, but i really don't want to go. they are having religious based wedding then "ceremony" (tea drinking part) then reception after.

I don't think I would attend if the ceremony is 4 hours of psychadelic praying. It'd be one thing if it was maybe 15 or 30 minutes and you could just sit and skip the tea and be there to support the love of those getting married...but a 4 hour drug trip does not sound pleasant to me.

I would go for their union and leave when they are about to start the other ceremony. If you don't attend the tea drinking then you have a 4 hour gap? With a 12am reception? Actually, I might decline for the gap not religion

I think it sounds interesting and I would be excited to go. I'm athiest and have attended religious weddings because I wanted to support the couple. You said fh's cousin is attending your christian wedding so I feel the respectful thing to do would be to attend his. You don't have to drink the tea if you don't want to. Bring a flask or something so you're not bored.

Normally I'd say go it's just a wedding but based on the description of this type of wedding I'd say skip it

No flask ... they don't believe in drinking or smoking and actually shame people for it... I know I know.

My ceremony won't be Christian, it's just the officiant is a pastor.

Can you break this timeline down a little more? I'm getting confused when you say ceremony between wedding ceremony and tea ceremony.

I agree with a couple of their PP's in that I go to ceremonies that are against my beliefs all the time (atheist) but I deal with it. I think this sounds a little different than that but I need more clear information first.

Would I go to a wedding that is against my personal beliefs? 100%. Would I go to this specific one? Not suuuure. Taking the religious aspect out of it, I don't know if I could sit anywhere for 4 hours just waiting for a tea ceremony to be over.

So they are having a religious based wedding ceremony ( I am pretty sure they are already married because they keep using those words) at their church (UDV) then having their tea based ceremony which lasts 4 hours followed by their reception , food and entertainment

I think when you are tripping the time goes by quick. My FH said adults when he went when he was a child would seem to fall asleep, look around or spend the time throwing up into a bucket

It bothers me about the drugs and how they worship the master Gabriel more than they do god.

A wedding is to support the union of marriage not religion or lack there of.

I would go to support FH but skip the tea drinking. If that is not ok then don't go at all. Im not religious by any means and have attended some weddings were guest participation was a good thing. I was all for it to celebrate the happy couple but drugs? That's a big NO for me.

If I didn't attend wedding where I disagreed with the religious elements I would never attend religious weddings.

That said, I sure as hell wouldn't attend a 4 hour one.

Can you just go to the reception?

The fact that you would have to drink this crazy tea makes it a completely different situation than just "attending" a wedding to support the couple. And sitting there for hours while people are high on this tea and throwing up? No. This is more cult-like than religious. It is not the same thing. I wouldn't go.

I can understand not wanting to do drugs. That's totally fair, but not supporting someone because they don't believe in the same god as you do is silly.

No offense. Coming from an atheist I've been to weddings and church services with family and friends because it's important to them. Do I agree with it? No. The relationships are way more important to me than what they believe in.

If you don't agree. Don't go. Plain and simple. You don't need to repeatedly say they don't believe in god. That's what is truly standing out as why you don't want to go.

I never said they don't believe in god... they do ... believe in Jesus and God

They also praise master Gabriel a rubber farmer who told them to take drugs.

"It bothers me that they worship the master Gabriel more than god"

You have an issue with what they believe in and it bothers you enough to not want to go.

Don't put quotes on things that aren't quotes. You forgot a whole set of words in between
