religion"called the UDV (União do Vegetal, ) pretty much a rubber farmer (gabriel) found jesus and jesus told them to drink this tea so everyone can get high which will make them closer to god: they have dress code, males are leaders only, when you drink the psychedelic tea if you throw up its evil leaving the body (congrats!) ceremonies are at night. they hang pictures of "master Gabriel" everywhere from their living room to cars.

I do not like anything about the UDV, its very cult like to me, and I do not believe taking drugs will bring you closer to God, I dont like some mans pictures on the wall....

His cousin is getting married at the church in November, hes going to our wedding, but i really don't want to go. they are having religious based wedding then "ceremony" (tea drinking part) then reception after.

I think taking a psychadelic drug is actually the only way to get my flaming atheist self to believe in any sort of higher power... so I don't see that part as weird per se. I'd have to be high to truly believe most of the stuff I was taught in Sunday school. Not judging anyone for their beliefs either way. My main issue would be having to sit through a 4 hour ceremony, no thanks!

Sounds like you really don't want to attend.. I dont blame you, either. So dont go, send a card. Honestly i didn't care who came to my wedding and who didn't, a bride "aint got no time fo' dat."

I would go since based on the timeline, it seems you can leave before the tea ceremony starts which is the 4 hour event. I grew up basically a very strong southern baptist and attended non-christian weddings just fine. I'm now agnostic and attend catholic mass weddings also fine even though I don't believe an ounce of their religion. I just don't participate in aspects such as prayers but I will respect the couple enough to attend and support their religion.
